Day 204

Last night was exciting.  A big thunderstorm hit about 2 AM.  The alarm radio went off twice.  Apparently Kyle got 60 mph gusts and quarter size hail.  We just got heavy wind and rain - over an inch.  I didn't have to get out of bed because I'd put the car in the garage before going to bed.

I got up in the morning wondering how to spend the day.  Texas decided that for me when I went out to get the paper.  The storm had wrecked the truck shelter.  One of the support lines had pulled up.  From there on upright pole and two roof poles buckled.  Fortunately the truck wasn't hurt.

The damage meant a trip to Harbor Freight to get another shelter.  I only needed 6 parts from it to repair the shelter.  It took Ellen and I over an hour to do the repair.  It was definitely a two person job.  It was also hot and muggy while we were doing it.  I was soaked in sweat when I was finished.

I spent part of the afternoon recovering - reading and surfing.  Then I decided to look up suppressors.  There's a famous place in north Austin.  I looked at their website.  It had a recommended list of lawyers.  One has an office on Escarpment.  So I emailed him.  I'm really disappointed in Lee's friend.  The guy never got back to me.  The new guy called me about an hour later (it's Saturday).  He talked to me for about half and hour, answering all of my questions.  I gave him a credit card number and told him to go to work.  In a short time I had an email with the trust and instructions on how to fill it out.  We need a notary public to finish it.  I'm really happy with him.

The email had 8 documents.  It took quite awhile to print it out.  After that I was finished with doing things.  I just sat down and watched a movie.

I played a little Minions all day.  The Earthquake machine component I'm working on will take two days to build.  It requires 18 45minute items that depend on 18 other 45 minute items.  The party I finished yesterday totally changed the game.  I can no longer sell things (they just don't sell), I now have the maximum amount of storage allowed, prices on things in the market place are 3X what they were, and the 4th level Minion gold is now 2 pieces per appearance, not 10.  Progress is going to be a lot slower.

Day 203

Jason called in the morning to say that the delivery has been rescheduled for Monday.  I'll have to deal with it because he will be in San Antonio.

That left us free to go to the club.  I made sure to call them first to make sure they'd be open.  It was hot and muggy - the low 80's with over 90% humidity.  The only thing that made it bearable was the wind.

We shot pretty good considering we hadn't shot in months.  I can't seem to hit rabbits anymore though.  We shot both the main and pro courses.  We only got a light sprinkle of rain at one point, but the skies really opened up just as we were driving out.  That never happens.

We stopped at In-n-Out for lunch and took it home.  The only other stop was the post office.  I didn't run the dog because she spent most of the time at the club off leash.  There weren't any other shooters because the weather was lousy.

When we got home I started a Minions party.  There was no way I was going outside, it was a sauna.  That meant I spent most of the rest of the day with the game.  In the evening I watched a movie.  Ellen finally got sick of the Wi-Fi.  I spent some time removing the cell booster and re-positioning the alarm and router.  It didn't help.  Now she's looking for new hardware.  I told her to buy the very best.  It looks like it will cost a little over $300.

Day 202

Today really sucked.

I realized yesterday that today was my last chance to shoot until at least September, and maybe longer.  The whole summer is going to be spent doing nothing while Ellen is either in surgery, recovering from surgery, being poisoned, or recovering from being poisoned.

So I got up in the morning and loaded up the car.  We set off a little after 9.  When we turned off 71 to 183, 183 was a parking lot.  So I turned around and went back on 71 to Montopolis.  I could have taken a faster street, but Ellen didn't tell me about it until I'd passed the exit.  Montopolis has a jog in it that requires you to be in the right lane.  Ellen didn't warn me, so I ended up taking another 2 mile detour.  At least traffic northbound was OK once we got back on 183.  Southbound 183 was a parking lot for 2 miles.

When we got to the club they had a sign out saying that they were closed for a private event.  They hadn't bothered to put that on their website.  I was really pissed.  To make matters worse I had to go back on the 290 frontage road and I35.  The I35 traffic wasn't bad, but it wasn't good.  I missed the Ben White exit and had to take the 1st street exit and backtrack to the Mazda dealership.

When I went into the dealership they couldn't give me the filters without the VIN number.  So back out to the car for that.  By this time the temperature was in the mid 80's.

The next stops were the post office, Tomlinson's for cat food and HEB for a bunch of needed groceries.  Of course Lucy got a hamburger from Tomlinson's.

We stopped at Circle C so Lucy could run.  After two days off she was really happy to do retrieves even though it was hot and sunny.  I let her do as many as she wanted, which was quite a few.

The last stop was the ice cream store.  I needed something good to happen.  Lucy liked it because we bought her some frozen yogurt treats.

When we got home I unloaded the car and then replaced the two filters.  The cabin filter was filthy, the engine filter wasn't really bad.  The job would have gone better if I'd known how to do it.  I had to drag out the vacuum cleaner, and an extension cord, to vacuum out the engine air box.  I was drenched in sweat by the time I was finished.

The rest of the day was spent reading and playing Minions.  I would set up some builds, put the game away for awhile, read, and then go back to the game.  I repeated the cycle many times.

Day 201

We did a little surfing in the morning and then left for the doctor.  The office was clear up next to Fry's.  Traffic wasn't bad except for the stretch from a mile north of 360 to a mile north of downtown.  It was stop and go, but fortunately more go than stop.

The hospital is huge.  So is the parking lot.  It was full.  People were parking along side the roads because there were no open spaces.  Ellen was there to do some pre-operation tests (blood and ECG) and learn how to deal with the results of the surgery.  The result is a "stoma".  It's a gross, outward puckering, opening in her lower abdomen.  Taking care of it is a pain in the ass.  Attachment of the bag is complicated with lots of possible failure modes.  These modes can cause bad skin reactions and infections.  Bags have to be changed twice a week and drained several times a week.  I'll have to help her, it won't be fun.

It didn't help that the person giving the training seemed to be second string.  Apparently they were filling in for the people who usually did it (they were out).

After two hours we escaped.  We ate lunch at the restaurant by Fry's.  Unfortunately Lucy wasn't with us, it was too hot.  I really needed the Guinness I ordered.

The drive back was one of the fastest I've ever done.  Only one minor slowdown (to the speed limit).  Most of it was at 65-70 even through the work zone.

One really lousy thing happened.  I spent most of the two hours at the hospital doing a Minions party.  I was making great progress.  In 2 hours I had two items done and was well on the way to my third. Then the damn game crashed.  When I got it back I had lost all of that progress.  I spent some time at lunch recovering, but of course most of the rest of the party time was spent driving home.

When I got home I made it my mission to complete the earthquake machine before I went to bed.  I did it, but I didn't do anything else for the rest of the afternoon and evening.

Day 200

Wow.  200 days since we left Salem.  It will be another 400 or more before we get back.  Crap.

I started a Minions party today because we were going to spend most of the day sitting around.  We did some surfing in the morning and then took the car in for an oil change.  The appointment was for 11:20.  It took them 2 hours to change the oil.  That made us a little late for the 1:30 doctor's appointment.

Of course we waited an hour when we got to the doctor.  Basically he said "you're doing well, have fun in surgery".  As near as I can see he sees his job as that of a cheerleader.  He doesn't seem to add much to the process.

I basically spent the whole day playing Minions.  I made an earthquake machine and got everything set up for a party tomorrow morning.  I was handicapped by the tablet shutting down because it we too hot.  That cost me over an hour of speed up time.  Ellen has to go to her pre-op meeting, so I bet I have plenty of time to play.

The dog had to stay home, it was too hot.  She'll have to stay home tomorrow, too.  When I took her to the mailbox she ran amuck.  She ran all over the neighbor's property and then treed a cat at the corner neighbor's property.  Then she totally disappeared for awhile.  When she reappeared she was ahead of me and took off through the first neighbor's property again.  She was waiting at the gate when I got there though.

The bill of lading for the next shipment came today  The delivery is scheduled for Friday.

Day 199

We didn't have anything to do today, so we stayed in bed for awhile in the morning and surfed.  Then we got up, had breakfast, and surfed.

About 1:00 I decided to go get the mail.  There was something amazing there.  I ordered a bunch of items from Amazon on Saturday afternoon.  One of them was in the box today (Monday).  That's incredible.

The only thing I really needed to do was the mail, but I was bored.  So we went to the yuppie grocery store for some special hamburger buns.  It was hot an humid.  So Ellen took the dog to the dog store while I went to the grocery.

When we got home we hid out in the house from the hot humid weather.  I started writing out instructions for what I do at the Western.  I have two full pages just to describe what I do before the shoot.

In the evening I watched the gun shows and then watched a movie.  Ellen watched another movie on her computer.

Sunday, April 24, 2016

Day 198

I'd been meaning to clean the Perazzi ever since we went to Kerrville.  I found out there that the ejectors had turned into extractors.  Today it was cool in the morning so I got around to it.  I got a late start because I spent some of the morning on Minions and surfing.  As expected it was really dirty.  I spent 2 hours cleaning everything.  I hope they work now.  There's no telling when I'll be able to use it.

After lunch I printed out the trust stuff and read it over.  I sent the lawyer a couple of questions.  I also talked to Hooch to make sure he would want to be a trustee.

The rest of the day was reading and Minions.  Ellen went to archery in the evening.  I watched a couple of movies.

Day 197

I went to the gun show this morning.  Ellen went with me.  She stayed in the car with the dog.  I didn't see much that was really interesting.

Dripping Springs was having a BBQ contest and street fair.  We had to park a quarter mile up RR12 to go to it.  It was fun to walk through.  There were a lot of really elaborate BBQ's.  There were also a lot of the standard fair food booths.  Finally there were the standard booths selling hand made trinkets and representing local businesses.  It was hot by the time we left, a big change from the week's rain.

By the time we left southbound RR12 was backed up for at least a mile.  I had to go all the way to Fitzhugh Rd. before I could turn back towards 290.  It was a pain in the ass, especially since I wanted to buy a 9V battery.  I stopped at CVS.  Theirs were expensive and damaged.  I finally got some at McCoys.

When I got home I put a battery in the Fluke meter.  It worked.  So I ordered some leads for it and some other stuff from Amazon.  It was too hot to do anything outside, so I played Minions and read for most of the evening.

Friday, April 22, 2016

Day 196

The day started out with what I thought was a disaster.  The LG tablet wouldn't charge.  I tried several different cables and power supplies.  No luck.  I spent quite some time on the web learning that fixing it myself wasn't an option.  To save the game I even signed up for Facebook.  As I gave up, Ellen found an official LG USB cable.  It worked even with a Samsung power supply.

It was an estate sale day.  There were only a couple of sales in the city, so I expected the one I went to to be crowded.  It wasn't really.  I went looking for a soldering iron I saw on the web.  It was crappy.  I did pick up a Fluke meter for $20 and a heavy extension cord for $6.  I won't know if the meter works until I get a battery for it.

The next stop was the grocery store.  After that we ran the dog.  She hadn't run in three days and really wanted to.  It was 80 degrees and sunny though, so she didn't run a whole lot.  We then stopped at the post office.

We were going to stop at the Italian place for lunch.  First we stopped at Tomlinson's for hamburgers.  We noticed that the restaurant across the lot was open, so we decided to eat there.  It was great.  We had good sandwiches, I had a good mixed drink, and Lucy got lots of hand me downs.  They had a really good key lime pie for dessert.

After that we went home.  It was too hot to work in the garage, so I started a Minion party.  Logging on to Facebook changes the game  It is now much easier to buy and sell things.  The prices (both ways) are also a lot lower.  I built my resources back up and then decided to become an arms merchant.  I was building up grenades and selling them 6 at a time for $1,100.  I was selling them as fast as I could make them.  I was also acquiring a lot of items to expand the storage also.  I learned that having high ranking Minions helps a lot towards getting items and even gold.  These changes have kind of rekindled my interest in the game.

Day 195

It was raining cats and dogs when we got up.  There was a lot of thunder and at one point we lost power for a few seconds.

We spent the day with John and Patty again.  They got here about 10 and we went to the race track.  They were having an AMG track day, which was good for us.  We got to drive on the internal access road, which gave them a view of some of the track.  Of coiurse we couldn't do anything else.

The rain was letting up by the time we left the track and you could see that clear weather was moving in our direction.  I drove them into town on Congress.  They liked driving right up to the capitol.  We stopped there and went inside.  It is a very cool building.  Everything is very ornate and the walls are covered with old portraits of all of the Teas governors as well as some legislators and judges.  There's a separate visitors center that we'll have to go back to some time.

By the time we were finished there the sun was out and it was getting warmer.  We stopped at Opal Divine's for lunch.  We had a good time talking and drinking.  Lucy had a slider and a dessert.

They wanted to get back early to start packing up, so we went back home.  I gave them a full tour of the place.  By then it was sunny and about 80.  Then they left.  I'm sorry to see them go.

Lee stopped us when we were driving in and asked if he could search the property for their cat.  I said of course.  He came by the place after dinner.  They looked for quite awhile, but didn't find it.  I think either coyotes or raccoons.

We spent the evening on surfing and TV.  Ellen had a board meeting.  It was surprisingly short.

I've decided on an new Minions strategy.  I'm building higher level Minions and starting to collect components to expand storage again.  I started implementing it tonight.  It will be awhile (and a couple of parties) before I know if it is successful.

Day 194

John and Patty got here about 9:30.  We got in the car and drove to Corpus Christi.  At least we started in that direction.  We actually ended up in Port Aransas.  It was a cool drive.  I took the back road and we went through flat Texas.  Because of the rain everything was green and nice looking.  We didn't stop anywhere because it was a long drive down (200+ miles).

The car GPS was a joke all the way.  It wouldn't abandon driving on the freeway.  It also wouldn't take a "go to a city" verbal command.  I ended up telling it to go to random streets on some of the intermediate towns.  That and John using Google on his phone got us there.

The lighthouse we wanted to see is on private land on an island.  We drove to a road along an inlet to a spot about a half mile away.  It was as close as we could get.  Pat said she was happy and took some pictures.

From there we back tracked a little and drove to the ended of the road.  At the way we passed an sea going oil drilling rig.  It was really impressive.  The road ended at a ferry terminal.  It was really impressive.  There were about 5 ferries, each with it's own slip.  The other side was Mustang island.  It's was a tourist trap, which was fine with us.  We stopped at a marina and had lunch outdoors where Lucy could eat with us.

We drove through Corpus Christi on the way back.  To get there we drove about 15 miles from one end of the island to the other.  There were lots of trailer parks and a lot of houses (and condos) on stilts).  The whole island is no more than 20 feet above sea level.

We drove through Corpus Christi on the freeway.  There is an impressive down town.  At one end the carrier Lexington is tied up.  I've got to go back some day and go through it.

We drove back on essentially the same road.  That allowed us to avoid San Antonio.  We were home a little before 7.  Pat was tired, so they went back to their trailer rather than eating dinner.  I'm surprised that I'm not more tired than I am after driving almost 500 miles.

I ate a late dinner and then Ellen watched a chick flick while I surfed and played Minions.  We finished the evening watching Futurama.

Tuesday, April 19, 2016

Day 193

We spent most of the day waiting around for John and Patty to call.  The good thing was this allowed us to wash the clothes.  Finally about 1:30 I decided to go to the post office.  They called just as we were getting into the car.  Apparently there was a problem with the trailer water heater, so John spent the morning fixing it.

When we got there we looked over the hail damage to their trailer and the truck.  It actually wasn't quite as bad as I thought it was.  It still is going to be expensive to fix.  We talked for awhile and then decided to go to a lakeside restaurant.

The restaurant was cool.  It's built on the side of a cliff 450 feet above the lake.  It was neat to see the lake all the way full.  We had drinks and then a couple of appetizers.  We didn't have dinner because it was early and the other food filled us up.  The restaurant is part of a complex.  We stopped at the gift shop and Patty and I got t-shirts.  After two or three hours we went back to the trailer.

We talked until 9.  We left the dog in the car all of that time.  She was really glad to see us when we left.  When we got home she pissed and then ran inside to drink.  Then it was dinner and a kong.

They want to go to Corpus Christi tomorrow, so I'm in for 6 or so hours of driving.

Day 192

It was raining when we got up this morning, so we did the Texas thing - nothing.  I read and surfed for most of the day.  Ellen sewed.

About two the rain let up.  So we went to the post office.  After that we ran the dog at the field.  They mowed it in the last couple of days.  That's no optimal timing given the rain.

The next stops were gas and the pet store.  Lucy got her delayed bath.  We also went to the pizza place next door to order something for dinner later.  As we were going home Patty called and said they were on their way.  We said that was great.  When we got home I did some final cleanup while Ellen started the dinner.  The sewer alarm went off again.  This time the reset didn't work.  Thankfully it only went off for a few minutes.

They showed up around 6.  They decided to stay at a park.  We talked while dinner was being finished.  It was raining again, so I didn't show them around.  They were really impressed with dinner - steak and bacon wrapped shrimp.  Afterwards we talked until about 9.

When they left we did some cleanup, Ellen watched TV, and then we went to bed.

Sunday, April 17, 2016

Day 191

Today was a slow day.  We got up at the regular time, but spent an hour in bed before getting up.  After breakfast we went to the yuppie grocery.  We thought we'd go early to avoid the crowd.  No such luck.  We got the ingredients for a nice shrimp and steak dinner.  Of course we also stopped at the doggy bakery.

Lucy didn't get to run because it rained last night.  After we got home I spent quite a bit of time rearranging the guest room closet so I could make the room neat enough for someone to stay there.  The last step was taking a couple of things to the apartment.  While I was there the skies opened up.  I got thoroughly soaked on the way back and had to change all my clothes.

That was the start.  It rained constantly for over six hours.  At time it was really heavy.  All total we got 3 inches of rain.  The rain stopped about 7.  At 9 the septic alarm went off.  Thank heavens this time the reset worked.  The red light is on.  I don't think we'll take showers tonight.

Of course all we did was sit inside.  A little bit of surfing and a lot of Minions - I started a party.  This one went a lot better than the last one.  I got the earthquake machine built and all of the items rebuilt or scheduled with almost an hour of the party left.

John called during the afternoon.  We talked for awhile about plans.  Since it's going to rain until Tuesday morning they are going to stay in San Antonio tomorrow.  When they get her on Tuesday they'll stay at a place near Lake Travis.  I'm actually glad.  It will be neat to see the lake all the way full.

Saturday, April 16, 2016

Day 190

It was supposed to start raining this afternoon and continue raining until Tuesday.  So we left the house early.  I wanted to make sure Lucy got to run before it started to rain.  We took her to Circle C and she had a great time.  I let her run as much as she want because she didn't run yesterday and she probably won't run again for a day or two.  Then we went to HEB to buy food for when John and Patty show up.  The next stops were Lowe's (furnace filter) and the post office.  The last stop was Trudy's.  We hadn't been there in awhile.

When we got home I went out and cleaned the apartment.  It took longer, and was harder, than I thought it would be.  It didn't help that the temperature was in the mid 70's with over 90% humidity.  It looks pretty good now.  I do wonder how a bathroom sink and toilet get dirty when no one has used them in years.

After I was finished I did a little more cleaning in the house and then sat down to read yesterday and today's  papers.  Somewhere in there I think I too a short nap.

All through the day I played a little Minions.  The game is now to the point where the only thing I can do is have a party.

Ellen turned on a zombie movie in the evening.  It's the most boring zombie movie I've ever seen.  It's on right now and I'm ignoring it.

Friday, April 15, 2016

Day 189

I wanted to go to an estate sale today.  It opened at 11.  So we messed around surfing (I also did a little cleanup) until about 11:15.  Then we left.  When we got there there were cars lining the road for blocks.  The line to get in was at least an hour long.  We bagged it.

We went to lunch at Doc's back yard.  Apparently now they allow dogs.  Then we went to the RV park up by Bee Cave.  We stopped at the Galleria on the way so Ellen could buy some shoes.  The place is really nice, but it was full except for one spot.  I'm pretty sure it they won't have an opening next week.

As we drove home we saw an estate sale sign.  It was mainly a collection of collections - dishes, knick-knacks, etc.  I did buy a cool adventure book written in 1887.

When we got home I didn't do anything.  I just surfed and read.  After dinner I went to the HOA meeting.  They decided on an insurance company, had someone look into the website, and talked about renewing the incorporation with the state.  Apparently tey can't find the ID number.  They have until August to find it.

When I got home we watched the Blacklist for the rest of the evening.

Thursday, April 14, 2016

Day 188

I got up this morning and started working on the control panel.  I did most of the work needed to install the two power switches.  I was really killing time until Lola showed up with the eggs that Ellen ordered.  That happened a little after 10.  Then we wrapped up Patsy's birthday present and went to the post office.

Our first stop was an estate sale.  There was an incredible amount of stuff in a small house.  I bought a metal Flamingo for the yard.  I'll need to repaint it.  Then it was the post office.  After the post office we took the dog to the field.  She did three or four retrieves and then left it in the field and started walking around.  When I went out to get the bumper she ran ahead and brought it to me.  After that she did another 20 or so good retrieves.

After that we went home.  I stopped at the 1826 roach coach and got a couple of brisket tacos.

When I got home I got out the ladder and checked the gutters.  They were clean except for the last two feet by the drain.  That stretch was completely filled and clogged with leaves.  I cleaned it all out and ran water down the pipe to flush it.

The final bit of useful work was to finish up the control panel switches.  I'll probably pack it up tomorrow.  John and Patty are coming on Monday.  I had a talk with him today about parking their trailer.

I decided to spend the rest of the afternoon on a Minions party.  It started out well, but then I got stuck on a requirement for a huge amount of resources that took a long time to produce even at 5X.  It wasted all of the high speed time.  I'll have to spend days of slow time setting up another party.

The evening was TV.  Ellen watched several of her fantasy shows.  Then we watched Futurama and the Blacklist.

Wednesday, April 13, 2016

Day 187

I decided to do some more work on the control panel this morning.  Before I could Lee texted me.  He wanted to come over and pay for the ammo.  I said sure.  We had a short talk and then he needed to go to an appointment.  He wants to go shooting again.  I said any time.

I took the panel enclosure out to the garage and drilled the two holes for the power switches.  Then I got distracted fixing the latch on the well house.  For some reason it keeps coming unlatched when there's a storm.  The door was completely open when we got back last fall.  So I re-positioned the latch so that the door puts pressure on it to hold it secure.

While I was doing that Ellen was shortening my pants.  I think she did two sweat pants and three regular pants.  That should keep me in pants for years.  When I came back in I surfed and talked until she was finished.

We went out for the post office an lunch.  We had lunch at the Oak Hill breakfast place.  I like it.  It's an old style diner.  My breaclet was at the post office.  I'm glad to get it back.

When we got home I had a severe case of lack of ambition.  I was going to clean the gutters, but I just didn't want to.  So I surfed part of the rest of the afternoon away.  Ellen stated watching Boston Legal, so I did too.  In the evening she played games and I watched westerns.

Tuesday, April 12, 2016

Day186

I started out the day by starting a Minions party.  I did it because it was a doctor day.  I basically played it and surfed until it was time to go to the doctor (surgeon).  The surgeon sounded optimistic that the tumor had shrunk enough that he would be able to reattach things.  He scheduled the surgery for 5/4.  After we got out I spent some time in the parking lot playing Minions.  The game kept locking up and needing a reboot.  Finally I ran out of battery and gave up.

I took the FedEx tracing number to the post office.  The lady looked and looked for the package, but couldn't find it.  Apparently the regular package person is on vacation this week.  Apparently the records are fucked up and they will call me next week.

After that I got my drugs at Wally World and then we went to lunch at the new Thai place.  I don't think it's near as good as the one we usually go to.  We went home after a short stop at the grocery store.  It was raining, so the dog didn't get to run.  She was really disappointed.

When we got home I actually did some work on the panel.  I got out the two 12V power switches and used an Ohm meter to figure them out.  They have five terminals and no documentation.  Then I connected wires to them.  I'll probably drill holes and mount them tomorrow.

Ellen went to archery after dinner.  I started to watch TV.  Hooch called and we talked for awhile.  I tried to convince him to retire to Texas.  I also brought him up to date on Ellen.  I called Mom afterwards.  She seems to be doing fine.  She was more coherent than normal.

When Ellen got home we watched some more TV.  There was a thunderstorm warning on the weather radio.  So I moved the car into the garage.  The storm came through later.  There was an impressive amount of rain and thunder, but no hail.

Monday, April 11, 2016

Day 185

The first order of business today was to take the truck to Dripping Springs to get it licensed.  We stopped at an oil change on the way to get the truck inspected.  We ran the dog while we were waiting for the inspection.  I let her run as long as she wanted because it's been a couple of days since she ran.  The reason they didn't send us a tag was that you're supposed to get a inspection the month before.  Then they send you a tag.

After that we stopped at the bank so I could replenish my funds.  Then we stopped at the post office.  They didn't have my last package.  Fedex says it was delivered Saturday.  I'll go back tomorrow and talk to them.

The last stops were Hobby Lobby (paint), lunch, the doggy bakery, and the yuppie grocery store.  Then it was time to go home.

I was going to do some stuff when I got home.  Instead I just surfed and read.  We also watched some TV we recorded.

The evening was TV.

Day 184

We had a whole list of errands to do today.  We stopped at Lowes for metal tape, Academy for gun brushes, Costco for water and other stuff, and HEB for groceries.  We also stopped at the pet store by Costco for dog food and a dog bath.  We had to wait in line for the bath, so we just left.  Later we went to Tomlinson's and got the food.

At Costco we got vinegar and salt.  I'm going to use a solution of it as a weed killer.  It's supposed to work.

I did some stuff at home also.  I used the tape to seal the gate opener and repair the insulation around the well head and the piping in the well house.  I mounted the rail on the 22/45 and cleaned it.  I also cleaned the 300 BLK and mounted the scope on it.  The 300 was really dirty even though it had never been used.

That took most of the est of the day.  I would have mounted the power switches on the control panel, but after all the other stuff I didn't feel like it.

In the evening I watched a couple of westerns that I taped when Showtime was free.

Day 183

After a stop at the post office to mail off the taxes we drove to San Antonio.  The trip down did not go well.  I missed the I35 exit on 290 and had to drive 5 miles to get turned around.  Then the damn GPS voice input wouldn't work.  Finally I had to pull off and do it by hand.  When we got to San Antonio the GPS didn't have up to date info on the exit we needed (it was under construction).  So that was another detour while we drove miles farther and then doubled back.

The show itself was cool, except for the $7 parking fee.  It was a whole different set of vendors than the Saxet show.  There were some cool old guns (overpriced) and some really cheap AR's.  We decided to buy a 22/45 Lite that both of us liked the look of.  While we were buying it Bill Misch was buying one, too.  We talked with him for almost an hour.  He's broke up with his wife and is living in New Braunfels.  He's also back at Crimson Trace.

The way back was better.  The GPS again routed us through construction.  Only this time the entrance was closed and we had to use the frontage road to the next one.  The road was empty and it allowed us to get all the way around the traffic backup.  Cool.

We stopped at New Braunfels on the way back to go to the train show.  Ellen stayed in the car.  They show was about the same as always.  There was a good selection of N scale cars, but almost no buildings.  One guy had high prices and another two had good ones.  I bought one car that I've wanted for a long time, but had never seen.

One story I forgot from when we were in Kerrville:  I've been trying to buy a snow plow tender on ebay for years.  I've been looking hard for the last 6 months.  One finally came up last week, but the auction ended on Tuesday night at 11.  I won the auction (money talks).  However, I had the Oregon PO box set as the shipping address.  I had to quickly email the seller and tell him to send it to Texas.  He did and I got it today.  It's exactly what I wanted.  Of course just after I bought it another vendor listed both the plow and the tender kits together at the same price.  Oh well.

We got home about 6.  I unloaded the car and then did nothing for the rest of the evening.  We watched the new Avengers movie and went to bed.

Day 182

I didn't take the computer with me when we went to Kerrville, so this entry covers the last four days.

Tuesday was a little stressful, but it worked out pretty well.  I sat around the house surfing in the morning waiting for word on the delivery.  None came, and I went to the doctor at 11.  He was running late, so I didn't get to see him until 11:45.  Everything was good there, and I got a text from Lee saying the delivery would be there in 20 - 30 minutes just as I was leaving.  I stopped at the roach coach for a quick lunch (it was good) and then went to Jason's place.  I followed Lee and the truck was waiting.  Jason wasn't there.  Lee helped me load it into my truck.

I took the stuff home and loaded it into the garage.  Ellen called from the airport just as I was finishing.  I closed up the house and drove to the airport to pick her up.  We left from there for Kerrville.  The trip was uneventful and fairly quick.  We got settled in and then had dinner with the crew.

The next morning we had breakfast with the crew and went to the club.  They didn't have the trailer, so there wasn't a lot to do.  I really didn't do much except set out 8 sponsor signs when we went to shoot.  I didn't do too bad for not shooting in almost 5 months.  At lunch we went our separate ways.  Ellen and I went to this cool variety store.  It had clothes, groceries, hardware, guns, and all sorts of other stuff.  It was cool.  We also stopped at the GMC dealership to look at trucks.  The GMC is nice, but it doesn't have an EGT gauge or a rear seat AC vent.  We went back to the club, did a little more work, and then went back to the motel.  We had dinner with the crew and the mucky mucks.

The next morning was early.  We ate at 6 with the crew and were at the club at 8.  Again there wasn't anything for me to do.  I did start out a couple of shooters, but then Bobby took over.  During the shoot I walked between some stations and gave people advice.  I was pissed that we didn't get to shoot the flurry.  Ellen was bullshitting with an all female squad and didn't get there in time.  I did shoot twice with shooters who asked.  After the lunch I helped a little with cleanup, but there just wasn't much to do.  We had dinner with the crew.

This morning we got up and had breakfast in Kerrville.  Then we drove to Fredericksburg.  We walked through the town.  For once we bought stuff for ourselves.  We ordered a couple of recliners from the Amish furniture store.  We also bought some stones for a ring for Ellen.  It was an expensive day.

When we got home the problems started.  The gate wouldn't work.  It just sat there beeping.  After unloading everything I took the documentation up and unbolted the thing.  The documentation said the beeping was because the limit switches were shorted.  I opened up the controller and there were bug guts on the circuit board.  So I blew them off and put everything back together.  It worked.  I like quick fixes.

The second problem was harder.  When I logged onto the computer the network adapter wouldn't work.  Windows said it turned it off because it reported and error.  Rebooting wouldn't help.  I tried the Intel website, it was useless.  Then I tried the Windows toubleshooter.  It told be to disable and enable the adapter.  The problem was that the adapter didn't show up - Windows had turned it off.  Finally I thought of Device Manager.  It showed the adapter and allowed me to disable and enable it.  That fixed the problem.

Ellen has been watching the shows she taped while she was gone (Friday TV sucks).  I've been doing a little surfing.  Now I'm going to take a shower and go to bed.

Day 178

I woke up at the regular time and did a little bit of Minions.  Then I got up.  There wasn't anything to do except wash the sheets, so I surfed the morning away.  I wanted to wash the sheets so there was one less load tomorrow.

I decided to go out for lunch.  I also wanted to run the dog and get the mail.  I took the dog to Circle C and we walked over to Escarpment and back.  Lucy spent most of the time running around.  She did decide to do a few retrieves about halfway back.  It was sunny and warm, so that wasn't unusual.

The post office was a pain in the ass.  There was a package notification.  I had to wait for 15 minutes or so in the line.  Then I waited at least as long while they searched for a package.  Finally they told me there wasn't one.  I wonder what they lost.

When I got home I vacuumed the house.  That didn't take long.  Then I swept out all of the leaves from the entry.  That will help keep the place clean.

The rest of the day was some surfing, some reading, and some TV.

I sure hope the truck with the shipment comes early tomorrow.

Day 177

I woke up this morning and decided what I wanted to do was play Minions.  So I started a party.  This time I had set everthing up correctly.  It took me 3.5 hours to complete an Earthquake machine.  After that there was nothing to do except fill in some of the items that I had used.  The game is now at the point where all I have to do is wait for the machine to be constructed.  After that I'll use the remaining party points to set up for the next party.  It was kind of satisfying to have the whole plan come together the way it should.

I did just a few things today - remove the things from the back of the truck, put away the washing stuff in the trailer, and take some things out to the garage.  I spent most of the afternoon on the deck reading.  I actually got all of the reading that I pnned to do while Ellen was gone done.

In the evening I surfed.  Lee called about 7:30 to say someone had parked a U haul truck at the end of the circle.  I made me a little paranoid so I locked up the garage and the car.  I also put the bar on the truck steering wheel.  To cap things off I loaded the Solo.  It's on the table beside me right now.

Day 176

I couldn't get to sleep last night.  I finally dozed off after 2 AM.  I got up at 8 though, fed the animals, had breakfast, and was on the road by 9.

The traffic gods weren't with me today.  The GPS warned me that the road was blocked in Kyle near I35.  It routed me around the problem, but it was extra distance.  Later it warned me that I35 was blocked and it wanted me to go to Seguin.  I pulled of at an exit to verify that.  Sure enough it was.  So I turned left at New Braunfels, went east to Seguin, and then went in on I10.  That wasn't the end of it.  On the way home  there was a massive tie up that started south of Kyle.  The GPS routed me off I35 and onto a road that no longer exists (they are reconstructing things).  I just kept driving and eventually it routed me through some back roads to Driftwood.  I'm not sure I saved time, but I did see some new country and there wasn't as much aggravation.

I loaded a book on tape onto my Zen last night and listened to it during the trip.  It worked pretty well.

The show in San Antonio was about what I expected.  I didn't see anything I really wanted.  I did pick up a lower for a really good price and a 6.8 magazine.

I didn't get home until after 4.  Of course Lucy was really glad to see me.  I immediately took her out in the yard and threw the bumper.  She did almost 30 retrieves.  That's good considering it was sunny and in the high 70's.

The evening was spent reading with a little surfing.

All during the day I would do a little Minions.  I need to build a lot of long lead-time items with no speed up clock.  So every couple of hours I open the tablet and spend a few minutes scheduling things.  I'll probably do the same tomorrow.

Day 175

Today was estate sale and package day.  I got up early and went estate saleing.  I stopped at four places.  One had an Erector Set just like the one I had as a kid.  It was complete.  I would have bought it except I knew that it would just sit someplace in the house until I died and someone else bought it.  I bought a cool lighthouse clock for Patty at another.

There was a package waiting at the post office.  Both US and Fed Ex delivered to the house today.  One was for Rllrn and the other two were things I ordered 1 or 2 weeks ago.

The only other place I stopped was the post office.  It rained all the time that I was out.  That resulted in a very disappointed dog because I wasn't going to stand in the rain and throw the bumper.

When I got home there was nothing to do.  So I started a Minions party.  I wasted a lot of the 5X time because I screwed up yesterday.  I won't be making that mistake again.

The delivery is supposed to be next Tuesday.  Wonderful.  That's the day I have a doctor's appointment, Ellen comes back, and we're supposed to go to Kerrville.  The only worse day would be Wednesday.

That was pretty much the whole day.  The evening was mainly Minions with some surfing and reading.
