We went back to chair shopping today. We had pretty much decided on layzboy, but we went back and looked at the stuff at Ashley's also. We went to Ashley's first. They had a couple of good possibilities.
Then we went to layzboy. They had a couple of ones we liked, too. The small ones looked good, but weren't as comfortable as the big ones. So we got two of the big ones. They were on sale and cost a lot less than most of the other things that we were looking at. We even got some that were in stock, they'll be delivered on Saturday.
We also got a package of Christmas presents from Patsy. One of them is a really cool dog oriented coat rack. I'll have to get around to hanging it up.
We had lunch at Gatti's pizza. It's a pizza buffet with an attached game arcade. We didn't do anything at the arcade. The buffet was pretty good. We may take the kids here when they come down.

Day 88
We went out furniture shopping today. We went to half a dozen stores and saw a whole lot of chairs. The ones we liked the best were $5000 a pair. That's a little steep for our blood. I think we'll probably end up with lazboy recliners. We're going back to their store tomorrow.
We got really tired walking through the stores and sitting in a million chairs. We stopped for lunch at a Japanese place. The food was pretty good. We had to eat fast though because the stores were only open 12-5. All the stores seemed to have sales going on. Some seemed to be real sales and others seemed to be "mark it up to mark it down" sales.
I was so wiped when we were done so I didn't stop at Circle C. I did feel guilty enough to through the bumper for the dog when we got home. She did a few retrieves. She doesn't really like running on the rock in our yard.
The rest of the day was watching football. The Packers lost. The Cowboys are busy losing.

Day 87
It was cold and a little windy today. So I decided to stay in and build the gondola crane I got for Christmas. I got out the box with all my old model paint. All of this stuff is at least 5 years old. I needed four colors - yellow, black, red, and silver. I found unusable yellow and silver. The first black I found was dead, but another was OK. Unfortunately the only red I had was dead. Not bad for 5 year old paint.
The model is metal and required small files to trim off flash. I did that while Ellen did the painting.
When we had done what we could we left to buy some red paint. We went to the hobby store near I35. We hadn't known that there were furniture stores there. We went to three. The lazy boy store had the best chairs. They are expensive, though. We're going to go to some other stores on Monday.
We did get the paint, and ate lunch at the burger place there. There was as pet store there, so of course we stopped in with Lucy. They had a sale on Christmas stuff and we got a couple of toys cheap.
On the way back we stopped at HEB to get something for dinner. We got some really good fish. We also stopped at Circle C. It was almost dark, but Lucy did a whole lot of retrieves.
We might go to a shoot tomorrow. It's supposed to be cold and windy. If it is, we won't go.

Day 86
The reset of the parts came in today, so I finished the build. Sort of. I decided to add a QD mount to the handguard. I'm going to wait until it gets here to install the handguard. The thing is way too big a pain in the ass to install twice.
After the post office we went up 360. The ostensible reason was to look at furniture. The real reason was to look at the Christmas trees. There were a huge number of them. Some of them were really eleborate and well done. I hope people will clean them up later.
We stopped under the bridge to run the dog. She had a great time doing retrieves. I threw them until she was tired. Then we went to the restaurant on the river. It likes dogs, so Lucy ate with us. It would have been OK if I'd remembered to bring a sweatshirt. Without it the wind made it a little chilly.
Then we went to the furniture store. It had a couple of chairs that we liked. Of course they were hideously expensive. We're going to go to some other places before we make a decision.

Day 85
All in all it was kind of a disappointing day. We went to the post office and there was no mail. That means no parts. Then we went to the mall to look at furniture. Dilliards didn't have anything we liked. Macy's had a couple of things, but not the right colors. We also learned that the mission chairs that we really liked wouldn't work because they only put up the foot rest when fully reclined. That meant that I'd have to push my head into my chest to watch TV.
There were a lot of Christmas decorations on sale at various places. We now have a lifetime supply of cards. We also got a couple of ballet ornaments for the nieces. Everything was 50 to 75 percent off.
On the way home we stopped at Torchy's for lunch. It was really crowded even though it was late. We barely got a table. The food was as good as the roach coach, but I think it was a little more expensive.
We left the dog at home because we knew she'd just be in the car for hours. When we got home I surfed and put some rails on the handguard. When Lucy and I went to get the mail there wasn't any. More disappointment.

Day 84
It was cold today. 33 degrees when we got up, and it never got up to 50 all day. There was a wind, too.
We decided to do some after Christmas shopping. We stopped at the Post Office first, but the package wasn't there (disappointed). Then we went looking for Christmas wrap and cards. We hit the home store on 290, Walmart, and Kohls. We got some stuff on sale at each place. We're probably set with that stuff for a couple of years now.
We stopped at TWO pet stores. Neither one was having a sale, so we didn't buy anything. Lucy was very disappointed.
I stopped at Lowe's to get the stuff I needed to fix the sun screen. If you want out of the ordinary hardware, go to Lowe's not Home Depot. They had what I wanted. We stopped at the grocery store and got a couple of things. The most important was bananas.
The trip finally turned good for Lucy when we stopped at Circle C. It was cold, but I couldn't not do it after the pet store disappointment. She did a whole lot of retrieves because it was cold. Some other dogs showed up and she played a little with them. She was still shy, but I hope she's recovering from getting bitten.

Day 83
It's Christmas day and we slept in. I had to take out the garbage, and we did the wash, but that was about it.
After breakfast and some messing around we opened our presents. We got some cool stuff, mainly what we had asked for. I think that's the way to go.
Of course I got the rest of the parts I needed, so I went out to the garage and finished my build. It all went pretty easy. I'm glad I had the DVD. It showed me a couple of tricks that were really helpful.
Ellen fixed this really cool dinner. She bought some buffalo steaks. They were really, really, good. Lucy got some of the scraps, so she made out too.
After dinner I called Hooch and talked to everyone for about an hour. It was fun.
All in all it was a good Christmas.

Day 82
It was the day before Christmas and we went for a walk. The dog was really antsy so we went over to Circle C. She did as few retrieves, but less than you'd expect. The we walked all the way around the park. She found a whole lot of things to sniff. One time she stopped and kept sniffing a rock even after we walked away.
She also found a lot of places to go. She took two craps and pissed at least three times. I'm not sure what got into her.
After we got through at the park we went to Home Depot to get birdseed and some parts to repair the sun screen. They had the seen, but not the parts. Damn.
One interesting thing. Two days ago Hooch emailed me saying he was sending me another present. They sent it priority mail and it got here today. I wish the package from PSA came as quickly.

Day 81
I decided to start building today. I took the parts and the computer to the garage. I started the DVD and watched the intro even though I really didn't need it. As the guy installed each piece I would watch, stop the DVD, and then install the piece.
I'm glad I made the tool for the detent. Even with that I launched the detent the first time. I was living right. It hit me in the face and dropped right in front of me on the bench. The second try was perfect.
The bolt release went in relatively easily. The mag release would have been easy except I really couldn't hold the receiver and thread the part at the same time. I put the receiver in the block I built and it worked great. I guess the time I spent building tools was worth it.
The trigger guard was a little harder, but there wasn't any drama. The pin was a little oversize so I had to pound it hard. So I switched to the vice grips. They worked well.
That was as far as I could go until I see what Hooch bought me for Christmas. There may be some springs that I need for the next step. Instead I put the extended catch on the charging handle. It wasn't going well until I noticed that my cheap Chinese "1/16th" punch was a lot oversized. I got out another cheap Chinese punch that was more accurately sized and then things went pretty well.
While I was doing that Ellen was cutting back the bushes in the back. She was working pretty hard. The dog was being disappointed because both of us were being extremely boring. I didn't want to go anywhere, so I threw the bumper for her. She didn't do a whole lot. I think because the gravel on the road hurts her feet.
The rest of the day was surfing and football.

Day 80
We wanted to go out today and watch the last minute Christmas shoppers. We went to the Bee Cave galleria. The weather was fairly sunny and warm when we left, but it got steadily cloudier, colder, and windier during the day.
We had a great time. We walked through a lot of stores. We didn't buy anything, but we looked at a whole lot of stuff. We ate lunch at an outdoor place that had a gas fireplace that we sat at. It was overcast and windy. It would have been too cold to sit outside without it.
We didn't take the dog. That was too bad because a lot of the stores in the galleria allow dogs. We'll have to remember that next time we go up there.
Some of the parts came in today. I now have enough to start the build. I'll probably do it tomorrow.
There's football tonight. I'm not sure why, but I'm not bitching.

Day 79
We slept in late today - until 11. I woke up feeling antsy, so after breakfast we left. First was the post office and then the liquor store. I wanted to get more Bailey's while it was on sale. Traffic was really bad, even though it was only noon. I had planned on driving 360 to see the trees, but it was already marked "red" on the traffic maps.
So we took a back way up to Bee Cave. We hadn't been up there since we got back, so it sounded like a good idea. We went up SW Parkway and then took a road up to 2244. That road went through some really rich neighborhoods. We passed at least three golf courses in a very short stretch.
When we got to Bee Cave it was a lot warmer than the weatherman said it was going to be. So we couldn't park and leave the dog in the car. We stopped at the used furniture place, but they didn't have anything we were interested in. We did take the dog to the Petsmart next door. We bought her some Christmas lufa dogs and a red collar with bells on it. We also got her a treat.
On the way home we stopped at Sonic for a late lunch. The rest of the day was reading and watching TV.

Day 78
It was really windy last night. It was so windy that it broke the sun shade on the kitchen window. So I had to get up at about 4:30 and go out and roll up the shade. It was a pain in the ass. Even more so I couldn't get back to sleep afterward. When I finally did, I slept until 10.
We read the newspaper and surfed the morning away. After lunch I had an attack of cabin fever. That was fine with the dog, she really wanted to do something, too. So we went to get the mail - a couple of Christmas cards. The real excuse was Costco. We could leave the dog because it was windy and cold (mid 50's). We went in to get some water and kolaches. We left after $138. There were just several things we saw that we just had to have.
I wasn't going to stop at Circle C, but Lucy's doggy eyes got to me. When we did stop she did an amazing number of retrieves. The wind was blowing, so they were fairly long retrieves. She did a long set, then took a drink, and then did another long set. After the second set she was ready to go again. That is until she did one retrieve. Then she decided that getting in the car was a better idea. That was fine with us. The wind and relatively low temp had made us both cold.
I was looking forward to watching football tonight. Unfortunately they aren't having a game. Damn. Instead Ellen is watching a bunch of ladies (some XX and some XY) in a clothes designing show.

Day 77
Last night I found out that one of our presents was probably stolen from the mailbox. As Hooch says, "that sucks". Oh well.
We really didn't have anything to do today, it was warm so we took the dog to auditorium park. She had a great time swimming. There were a lot of dogs there. We spent almost an hour with her doing retrieves and us talking with the other dog owners. There was this box truck there that was full of dog stuff. We went through it, but there wasn't anything we wanted to buy.
Even after all that swimming the dog wasn't tired, so I had her do a bunch of land retrieves. Eventually she got to the point where she just couldn't retrieve anymore. She didn't want to stop though.
We ate lunch at Fireman's. We just didn't feel like burgers or tacos. Afterwards we took Lucy to the dog store next door and bought her a treat. She was appropriately pleased.
When we got home I started to read a book, but I fell asleep.
I never did get around to doing anything useful.

Day 76
Today was wash day - clothes and dishes. So we hung around in the morning while the machines did their thing. I went to the garage and wiped down the receiver that I'd coated with CLP last week. It came out looking much better than the one I just bought. So I coated the new one and put it in the bag. I also cleaned Ellen's Zombie so that it would be ready.
I got an email form PSA today saying that the lower parts had shipped. And the BCG arrived in the mail. Yeah!
After we got the mail we went over to the bank to replace funds. The dog started to get excited as soon as we drove into the parking lot. I took pity on her and we went to the pet store. We bought a few things that we really didn't need, but Lucy had a great time.
It was pretty warm today, 82. We stopped at Circle C anyway. Lucy surprised us by doing a lot of retrieves.
I went on the web tonight. Things are crazy. Almost everything is sold out. I blame Obama.

Day 75
The dog hadn't gotten to do anything for two days, so we decided to take her out.
Our first stop was the post office. Then we went over to Centex to buy a receiver. It cost 30% more than the one I bought a month ago. I blame Obama. Then we went to Central Market and bought some yuppie food.
By that time the dog was convinced that nothing good was going to happen. She was really happy when we turned into the park. She was less happy when I threw the bumper into a tree. Fortunately I managed to knock it down without much trouble.
Lucy didn't do a whole lot of retrieves. She really wanted to walk. Ellen wasn't feeling well, so we only did a short walk around to the soccer fields and back. Lucy did a lot of going through the woods and the weeds while we were walking. She had a really good time.
When we got home I was going to do some surfing. Instead I fell asleep in front of the computer. Oh well, I'll be awake during football.

Day 74
We went to the show today. It wasn't as good as the one two weeks ago, but there was still a lot of stuff to look at. We managed to see a Coyote LCP, pocketlite, and a zombie sig. We decided to by the sig. Ellen really liked the paint job. The place where we bought it was doing a land office business. We had to wait 45 minutes just to start the paperwork.
All in all that took the whole day. We stopped at HEB on the way home and the bank to replenish our funds. HEB had some "potato encrusted cod". I'm supposed to eat fish so we bought it. It turned out to be really good.
Tonight seems to be zombie night on TV. So we're watching the actor's survival strategies.

Day 73
We had a really good estate sale day. We went to four places and found good stuff at all of them. We got a bunch of sewing stuff for Ellen. I scored a bunch of Dremel accessories for $5. There was at least $40 or $50 worth of stuff in a nice plastic storage box. We also got a set of 5 cool special scissors for scrap booking - for $3. We're going to send them to Martha.
The last place was on Barton Springs road. So after we ate lunch at the burger place we took the dog to Zilker. The wind was blowing, so my throws went a long way. Lucy did a whole bunch of retrieves. There were these guys at the park flying a huge kite. It took two people to launch it. It looked like a lot of work to fly. It was big enough to pull pretty hard. The guys were switching off flying it.
On the way home we bought a whole lot of groceries. The cupboards were getting a little bare.
When we got home I soaked the receiver in CLP and put it in a plastic bag. I'll take it out and wipe it off on Monday.

Day 72
I woke up at 7 this morning, but I didn't get out of bed until noon. I can't believe I spent 5 hours in bed playing mines. It was fun, though.
When you get up at noon you don't get much accomplished. After lunch (not breakfast) and the paper we went to the post office. Then we stopped at Staples and Lowe's. Ellen needed some printer ink and I wanted a tool for the build.
On the way home we stopped at Circle C. It doesn't seem to be worthwhile to go to Zilker while they have it blocked off.
I did get lucky. One of the websites had BCG's in stock today. I've ordered the last piece for the build. Now I just have to wait for the parts to show up.
Tonight it's football.

Day 71
Since it was cold, we stayed in bed late again today. When we got up I found out that the second guy from ebay had paid. So Ellen printed out a mailing slip for the package.
We went to the post office to mail the package. There was a lot of people there, but most of them were dripping off stuff quickly. I guess lots of people use online postage.
We just couldn't go home without taking the dog somewhere, so we went to Zilker. They've blocked off most of the park for this Christmas light display. There weren't many people at the park, so we threw the bumper for the dog until she was tired. Then we walked from the west entrance to Barton Springs and back.
When we got back there were more dogs, so Lucy got to do a little socializing. I think she's still really wary because she got bit in Flagstaff.
On the way home we stopped at IHOP for a really late lunch. We were both really hungry. When we got home there were two packages from Amazon. They were filled with wrapped presents which we put under the tree. It now looks like a complete Christmas tree.

Day 70
It was cold today. At least it was cold for Texas. We stayed in bed for awhile in the morning because of it.
It turned out that both of the items that I had on ebay sold. Unfortunately they sold for the minimum. It was quite a hassle to settle things. First I had to get a paypal account with my email address. Ebay is emotionally incapable of allowing the paypal payment to go to an account with another address. Attempting to do this screwed up the first payment completely. Ellen had to call paypal to get it straightened out.
Second they changed the postage mechanism. This messed up Ellen when she tried to print it out. We're supposed to get a refund on a bad postage, but I bet we never do.
Third the second guy paid with a credit card. In order to accept it I had to sign up to pay 2.9% + 30 cents on ALL paypal transactions. What a ripoff.
I've got to decide now what to sell next.
We took the first package to the post office. It was really crowded. Then we took the dog to Circle C. Because it was cool, 53 degrees, she rean for quite awhile. I was clad I was throwing the bumper. It kept me a little warmer.
The rest of the day was surfing and TV.

Day 69
Ellen wanted to go to the fabric store today and Lucy really wanted to go somewhere. I sat in the car while she bought a bunch of stuff. Apparently everything in the store was on sale. When she was finished we went to Tuesday Morning. We didn't really need anything, but we bought a few things anyway.
We stopped at Taco Bell for lunch. Lola and her mother were there. We agreed to hide a ping pong table for them as a Christmas present. We also stopped by the credit union. Apparently we need to reapply if we want to refinance.
I stopped at Lowe's to get a part for the build. I was amazed that they had what I wanted. The dog had to have her time, so on the way home we stopped at Circle C. The temperature was only 53, so she had a great time retrieving.
I got another present from Hooch today. It was wrapped, but unfortunately there was a packing slip that told me what it was. What's the point of that?
Now it's football time.

Day 68
Since the club wouldn't return our calls I decided to go to the club. A cold front is supposed to come in tonight and drop the temps into the 20's. It was 80 degrees, cloudy and humid today.
The shipment was at the club, so the first thing was to load it into the truck. I hadn't taken the hitch out, so it took up a large part of the bed.
We shot both courses. They were unchanged from the tournament. It was still fun, and we got to practice some of the stations that we had problems with at the tournament. There was only one other person on the course so the dog got to run around. We only tied her up at the rabbit stations.
We went straight home so I could unload. I had to put some of it in the apartment kitchen. I think we're well supplied for the time being.
Tonight will be a drink and football.

Day 67
The dog really, really, really, wanted to do something today. We spent part of the morning waiting for the club to open so we could call them about the shipment. We called them, they said they'd call back, but they never did. We waited until about 1, by then the dog was very insistent.
We went to the post office and then over to Circle C. Lucy did a respectable number of retrieves, but I think she really wanted to walk. The park was packed with people there for the soccer games. Some of them were parking in the fields. We walked over to the fields to watch some of the games.
We watched some of a girl's game and then a boy's game. They were mildly entertaining. Then we walked over to watch another boy's game. It was interesting. One team was bigger than the other. However the small team had more skilled players. The coach of the small team was really entertaining. He spent the whole game yelling instructions to individual players. Some of his comments were pretty funny.

Day 66
I woke up and started surfing in bed today. That meant we were late getting up. It really didn't matter, because all I did when I got up was more surfing. This might be getting to be a bad habit.
About 1 I complained to Ellen that I was getting bored. So she suggested going to north Austin to see a store. I was dumb enough to agree even though it was Friday afternoon. The traffic on the Mopac was OK until we crossed the river. Then it got a little slow. When we turned off at Alexander it was really slow. It was a parking lot going in the other direction.
The store she wanted to go to was a sewing store that sold sewing tables. These things were cheap laminate with fine furniture prices. The cheapest one that we might use was $650. It was made of cheap laminate. We passed.
We went home on Steck, which didn't have much traffic on it at all. The Mopac southbound was fine. On the way home we stopped at Randall's and bought a bunch of groceries. The final stop was the back to deposit the winning's from the tournament.
When we got home there was an email that said the shipment was at the club. I guess we'll go there tomorrow.

Day 65
We went to the pet store today. We were short on cat food and they were having a sale. We picked up some dog food too at a discount.
Next stop was the park. The dog did a bunch of retrieves and then we went for a walk. Last year when we walked through the park we really didn't go through all of it. So we've been walking in different areas just to see new terrain. The dog seems to like it, too. At one point today she treed a squirrel. After that she was checking every tree we walked by.
I spent a lot of today looking for parts on the web. Most places are sold out. I've finally decided on what I'm going to buy. However I'm going to wait a few days as the vendor is having a daily special. Maybe I'll get lucky on one of the things I want to buy.
I did order a tool and a part from a different vendor. I can't build anything until Christmas anyway as some of the stuff is coming from Oregon as presents.
There was also a fire drill from Travis. I had to call him a couple of times to make sure I did what he wanted correctly. He hasn't called or emailed back, so I guess I did.

Day 64
We got up and going earlier than usual today so that I could go get my hair cut. It was getting long and shaggy enough to annoy me greatly. I wanted to get there early so it wouldn't be too busy. There was nobody there when I was there. The girl who cut my hair said that Tuesday are the slowest day and Wednesday was usually busier than it was today. I'll try to remember that.
Ellen went over to Best Buy. She didn't see anything to buy and neither did I. There was this cool electronic Dungeons and Dragons game that Hooch might like.
We stopped at Costco on the way home and got some water and drinks.
We kind of lucked out. Apparently the garbage people didn't have a record that we called them. So they didn't pick up our garbage. They called us just as we were getting home and the garbage truck was leaving. We told them that we had started, so they had the truck come back and empty the can.
The stuff I ordered on Amazon came today. The Nexus stuff looks good, except they sent me the wrong cable. The DVD was very good. I spent most of the evening watching it. I'm ready to do the lower. Doing the lower will depend on the cost of the tools.
The website guy said that he mailed the password. I'll have to see once Hooch mails it to me.

Day 63
I spent the morning on some more little tasks. I hung up the second bird feeder and the cat decoration outside. I also made up a shipping box for one of the ebay items. I took a small one price boax and duplicated it by cutting out the pattern on a larger box. That makes shipping the item half the cost. After packing both items up Ellen put them on ebay. We'll have to see how they do.
After that I didn't do anything except surf. Surfing can be a colossal waste of time.
About two o'clock the dog was getting really antsy. So I decided to go get the mail and take her for a run. We stopped by target and bought a Barbie doll so Ellen could make clothes. It was 25% off and still cost way more than I think it's worth.
After the dog did a bunch of retrieves at Circle C we went for a walk around the park. The weather was perfect. It was about 75 degrees with a breeze to keep things cool.
After we got back it was more surfing. I must have spent over 8 hours on the web today. I didn't accomplish a thing.

Day 62
I tied up some loose ends this morning. I fixed the open joint in the gutter. I checked the old motion light. It was toast. So I mounted the new one. It's stupid. It goes off in the day time as well as the night.
Then I broke down the 229. It was clean and not used much at all. Another magazine for it is going to be expensive - $40. I also function fired it. It has just a little less recoil than the .45.
I also boxed up the t-shirt for Dorie's kid.
The final loose end was to get the camera and take pictures of a couple of items for ebay. Ellen will probably put them up tomorrow.
We took the kid's box to the post office and picked up the mail. Then we stopped at the bank to deposit a check. Of course we had to take the dog across the street to run. There was a complete deer leg in the parking lot.
The final stop was the grocery store. Ellen wanted to pick up stuff for a recipe she wanted to try. It was a chicken/noodle casserole. It was good.
Now it's time for football.

Day 61
Today was a pretty good day. We went to the club to shoot the tournament. The weather was great. Ellen shot really good, but unfortunately there was another shooter there that did just a bit better. I didn't shoot very well, but I still won AA in both courses. I would have done really well on the hard course except for a single target. I missed it four times.
When we got home I tried another battery in the camera from the truck. The first one hadn't worked. The second one did. It turns out that the camera ran out of juice in 2003. I then tried the first battery and it worked, too. I got the AC/DC charger and two batteries for $10. That's a lot better than buying a new camera. I should download the pictures before I take the camera back out to the truck.
I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening watching football. I'm on my third game now.

Day 60
Wow. We've been gone two months. I woke up this morning and the first thing in my mind was "gun show". That was weird because I hadn't even thought about it for days.
We got to the show and it was crowded, but not ridiculous. Some people had good prices and some didn't. People were definitely buying stuff. I got to see a lot of the ar15 parts that I'd only seen on the web. It helped me make some decisions. One guy had a good deal on magazines, so I bought 4.
We saw the rainbow. It didn't look near as good in person as it did on the web. So we didn't buy it. Two vendors had coyote LCP's, but they wanted $60 extra for them. So I didn't buy it either. We did buy a t-shirt for Dorie's kid. It was a zombie shirt, and he's a zombie fan.
On the way home we stopped at McBride's. They had a used P226 at a good price, so we bought it.
When we got home Ellen asked about the water softener. I went out and looked. It was empty. So after dinner we went over to Home Depot and bought 200 lbs of salt. We also got 40 lbs of bird seed. 40 lbs sure is heavier than it used to be. When I got home I put 160 lbs in the softener and left the last bag for later.
I also got out the stuff for a tournament tomorrow.
