I decided to start building today. I took the parts and the computer to the garage. I started the DVD and watched the intro even though I really didn't need it. As the guy installed each piece I would watch, stop the DVD, and then install the piece.
I'm glad I made the tool for the detent. Even with that I launched the detent the first time. I was living right. It hit me in the face and dropped right in front of me on the bench. The second try was perfect.
The bolt release went in relatively easily. The mag release would have been easy except I really couldn't hold the receiver and thread the part at the same time. I put the receiver in the block I built and it worked great. I guess the time I spent building tools was worth it.
The trigger guard was a little harder, but there wasn't any drama. The pin was a little oversize so I had to pound it hard. So I switched to the vice grips. They worked well.
That was as far as I could go until I see what Hooch bought me for Christmas. There may be some springs that I need for the next step. Instead I put the extended catch on the charging handle. It wasn't going well until I noticed that my cheap Chinese "1/16th" punch was a lot oversized. I got out another cheap Chinese punch that was more accurately sized and then things went pretty well.
While I was doing that Ellen was cutting back the bushes in the back. She was working pretty hard. The dog was being disappointed because both of us were being extremely boring. I didn't want to go anywhere, so I threw the bumper for her. She didn't do a whole lot. I think because the gravel on the road hurts her feet.
The rest of the day was surfing and football.
