Day 1558

I got up a little after 7, did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  After a little surfing I went out to the garage.  I was stoked about working on the trailer.  It wasn't to be.  When I sanded the wood for the trailer it returned to the shade it had yesterday.  The stuff Ellen is uses just sits on top of the wood.  When I sand it it all comes off.  I told her to try another approach.

That left me with little to do.  I took some pictures of the trailer baggage lock to send to the electronic lock support guys at their request.  Then I went back into the house and surfed.

About noon I decided I wanted to go out to lunch.  We went to the Italian place with a stop at the post office first.  Of course Lucy got to go to Tomlinson's.  We bought her a big Happy Birthday cookie because last week was her birthday.  After lunch and a stop at HEB we went home.

I decided to look for auxiliary lights for the truck.  The headlights suck.  They have no dispersion, so you can't see what you're turning into at night.  You really can't even see when to turn.  I also want some backup lights.  I found some neat lights at Amazon, but I'll have to work out the wiring.

A bunch of stuff came from Amazon about 7.  I may work with it tomorrow if the trailer wood isn't ready.

Dinner was a HEB meal.  After dinner was surfing while Ellen watched chick flicks.

Day 1557

I woke up a little after 7 and played games until after 8.  I got a message that the trailer hitch base had shipped, so after pet stuff and breakfast I printed out the instructions for assembling the hitch.  Then I went out to the garage.  I sanded down the wood for the trailer and then had Ellen look at it.  She decided that it wasn't dark enough.  So much for today's plans.

While Ellen painted I did some prep work on the trailer hitch assembly.  While I was doing that Ellen left for a shooting lesson.  I finished up the hitch work.  I wanted to do something else, so I broke down the boxes from the hitch.  There were two, they were big, and they were stapled together.  That meant it took some effort.

When that was done I went inside to go through the big trailer parts catalog we got at the dealership.  Each time I found something I would look it up on Amazon.  It necessary I'd go out to the trailer to see if whatever I was looking at would fit.  I made a lot of trips to the trailer.  I spent most of the afternoon on this.  At the end I made a $300 order to Amazon for various items.

When Ellen got home she went out to the garage to clean her gun.  That left me to feed the animals after I took the dog for a walk.  I also fixed a HEB meal for dinner.  After dinner it was TV and a little game playing.  I was sick of being on the computer.

It doesn't sound like much, but I felt it was a productive day.

Day 1556

We got up at 7:45 today.  After the pet stuff and breakfast we left for the physical therapist.  I took this really roundabout way to get to loop 1 to avoid the road work on 1826 and the traffic jam on lower loop 1.  It worked out pretty well and I got there early.

It was lucky I did get there early.  They had almost a dozen pages of forms to fill out.  I got them all done and the therapist called a little after I finished.

The session was mainly her asking questions to get a handle on the problem.  How long, what does it feel like, etc.  She also spent a little time manipulating my jaw and neck to judge range of motion limits.  We set up appointments for 4 weeks.  I got homework: sit up straight.

After that we went to Lowe's and Home Depot (because Lowe's didn't have what I wanted).  I got some broom clips to replace the one in the pantry and to attach the club to the underside of the truck's rear seat.  We also went to Best Buy and Sam's Club just to shop, but didn't buy anything.  We stopped at the post office and Tomlinson's on the way home.

When we got home it was lunch - brisket sandwiches.  Then we went out to the garage.  Ellen painted while I replaced the clip in the pantry and installed one in the truck.  I hung the picture John and Patty gave us in the apartment.  I also did a little tool rearranging to make it easier to get things I frequently need.

That was it for useful labor for the day.  The rest of the afternoon was surfing and shopping on Amazon.  Ellen fixed mac and cheese with Rudy's sausage for dinner.  After dinner was TV and some looking for trailer stuff in catalogs.

Day 1565

I woke up about 8 and played games for an hour.  Then it was pet stuff and breakfast.  Ellen and I went out to the garage and set up for painting.  Then I left Ellen to the work.

While Ellen was painting the trailer place called.  The hitch had been delivered.  So when she was finished painting we left for Buda.

Of course we stopped at Cabelas.  I was going to buy some stuff from their latest sales catalog but I couldn't find any of the items.  Then I took a look at the brochure and saw that the sale didn't start until tomorrow.  It wasn't a total loss though.  I had a coupon for a free hamburger at their restaurant.  I had an Elk burger and Ellen had a Bison burger.  They were both really good.  We also got a low hammock bed for Lucy.  She's having more and more trouble getting up on the couch.

After lunch we went to the trailer place across the street and picked up the hitch.  It took two big guys to lift it into the truck.  Then it was time to go home.

When we got home I but Lucy's hammock together.  She seems to like it.  Then I went out to the garage.  My first project was to unpack the hitch.  I took the boxes with the head and the adjustment rails into the garage.  The hitch itself stayed in the truck.  I won't try to move it until I get the piece from Demco.

After that I installed the two antler switch covers we got at the last estate sale.  It took awhile because I had to shim out the switches and 3/8 of an inch to make the covers fit.  I also checked out the rope lights I bought for the gate.  Unfortunately one of the two packages didn't work.  Crap.  By then it was time to take the dog to the mailbox.

When we got back I built a box to hold the cancer plaque I bought for Hooch.  I used part of the box the hammock came in to make it, along with a lot of tape.

Dinner was a TV dinner.  After dinner it was TV.

Day 1564

Today was a good day.  I woke up a little after 8, but stayed in bed until almost 10 playing games.  I did well.  Then it was pet stuff and breakfast.  After that we left for Barton Creek Mall via the post office.

We decided to look for new plates.  The ones we have are 43 years old.  They're beat up and some of them don't tolerate the microwave well.  We stopped at Macy's, Dillard's, and J. C. Penney's.  We ended up ordering some from Macy's.

We stopped at California Pizza Kitchen for lunch.  Then we went to the place we really came for - the Lego store.  I bought this huge powered scoop shovel.  It's got 4,000 pieces and cost $449.  It's going to be fun.

We went to Rudy's and got some brrisket.  I was getting tired of ham sandwiches for lunch.  On the way home we stopped at HEB for some groceries.

When we got home I went out to the trailer to do a little work.  I measured out the vertical wood pieces and cut them.  It went a lot better than the first time and they fit perfectly.  Ellen left for Dripping Springs about the time I got them done.  She's ordering cabinet doors and hardware.  The next step is for her to do some painting.

After she left I cleaned up the trailer and the garage.  I put a bunch of tools away and swept up all of the sawdust in the garage.  It looks a lot better now.

Earlier I'd done some sawing in the trailer, so I was covered in sawdust.  So I went inside, continued the wash, and took a shower.  After that I fed the animals and made the bed.  After that I had dinner - leftover pizza.

After dinner was TV and a little surfing.  I thoroughly enjoyed the day of doing just what I wanted after working so hard on the trailer.  It didn't hurt that the weather was great - sunny and almost 70.

Day 1563

I woke up at 7 this morning, turned over and went to sleep until 9.  Then it was pet stuff and breakfast.  Then it was out to work on the trailer.

I started by cutting a little off the fireplace mounting tabs.  Then I cut some off the top trim to clear the mounting tabs.  I cut a piece of scrap to simulate the correct size of vertical board.  Then I tried to fit everything together.

I had to use a Dremel to route out a 2 inch square of the top trim on both sides of the fireplace.  That way the vertical boards will actually be vertical.  I got covered with sawdust and so did the area I was working in.  That meant a time out to vacuum everything.  At that point it was almost noon.  I called the jewelry repait place.  My bracelet was repaired, so we got in the car.  We stopped at the post office and then picked up the bracelet.  Then we headed to Brodie.

We stopped at Academy and got a baseball glove repair kit.  I can use the leather lace to fix the leather strap that broke on my gun case on Saturday.  Then we stopped at Home Depot for wood and tools.  I got a square and a ratcheting screwdriver to replace the ones that broke yesterday.  Ellen looked at paint, but didn't find any she liked.

I realized I'd bought the wrong size square, so we stopped at Lowe's.  I got a square and Ellen got some paint.  Then it was home.

When I got home the fireplace wasn't fitting as well as I wanted it to.  I realized that I needed to cut some more off the top trim.  That's when the aggravation started.  I had to remove the board, an awkward process.  I cut the board.  That's when I realized that the  pieces I'd cut off the fireplace had to be reattached.  I dug them out of the garbage, drilled holes in the fireplace, and reattached.

During that process one of the drawers filled with screws hit the floor.  I spent 20 minutes picking them up and resorting them.

Finally, I reinforced the top trim with a metal strip.  There's very little of it left and it bears a load.

I took the fireplace back to the trailer and reinstalled the top trim.  It was after 5 so I called it a day.

The trailer hitch manufacturer replied to my email and told me what I need to order.  I'll do the order tomorrow.

Ellen fixed leftover HEB food and some frozen chicken for dinner.  After dinner was surfing, TV, and games.

Day 1562

I got up at 8 today because I wanted to work on the trailer.  I had breakfast and did the pet stuff.  Then I went out to the garage and started building the partition to put behind the fireplace.  That went pretty well.

After that I cut out the excess framing wood so that there was more room to reach inside.  That went OK, but I wasn't able to make as neat a series of cuts as I wanted to.  It made quite a mess that took time to clean up.

By then it was 1 and time for lunch.  I had leftover pizza.  I didn't feel like going back out, so I surfed and played games for awhile.  Then I went back out.

I tried to fit the new fireplace in the cabinet.  The support I made was too high (more on that later), so I spent some time lowering it and making it perfect.  Then I spent a lot of time making the two vertical supports.  I wanted them to fit a tight as possible.

I put a bunch of stuff away and made a couple of cardboard templates to show what the doors would look like.  Then I had Ellen come out to look at it.  That's when it all went south.  It turns out that the top trim piece isn't vertical.  It is slightly tilted up.  That means that the vertical pieces I cut won't fit the doors.  It's also why the support seemed too high.

Basically all of the hours of work I did after cutting the trim was wasted.  Worst yet, I'll need to buy some more wood to redo the vertical pieces.  I'll also have to do some more trim cutting and use the Dremel to cut a little of the mounting tabs off the fireplace (every job involves the Dremel).  I'm disappointed.

Ellen fixed leftover meatloaf and a HEB meal for dinner.  After dinner it was TV and games.

Day 1561

I woke up at 7:30 and played games until 8.  Then it was pet stuff and breakfast.  Then we left for Marble Falls.  We decided to go up through Bee Cave.  That's the last time we'll do that.  They've built a lot more stop lights on 71 and it's now a very slow trip.

The weather was good.  A little wind and temps in the low 60's.  I didn't shoot particularly well, but there was definite improvement.  We couldn't get a cart though, so it made for a long walk.

We took 281 and 290 home of course.  I measured the mileage on the way back.  It was 18 mpg.  Most of that was highway, but there was some town driving and one long wait at a light.  It was after 3 when we got home.  The new fireplace was waiting at the gate.  I put everything away and then unpacked and tested the fireplace.  It worked like a champ.  Then I took it out to the trailer and got to work.

I removed the old fireplace.  Then I relocated the electrical plug and junctions.  I carefully measured how much I had to cut from the top trim board.  Then I removed the board.  I just as carefully marked the board for cutting.  Then I cut it.  When I fit it back in it fit perfectly.  The final thing for today was marking out the foot print of the new fireplace on the floor of the enclosure.  This allowed me to measure out where the partition will be.

By then it was 6:30 and time to quit.  I'm documenting the work with pictures.  I'm going to try to get Ellen to post it on the trailer Facebook page.

Ellen fixed meatloaf and french fries for dinner.  It was good.  After dinner was TV and games.

I'm looking forward to working on the trailer tomorrow.  It seems that most of the work to be done won't be too difficult.  installing the fireplace should be the only hard part.  We'll see.

Day 1560

I woke up about 7 and played games until a little after 8.  Then it was pet stuff and breakfast.  After a short surfing session we left to go to an estate sale.

The sale was a little NW of Dripping Springs.  We got there about 15 minutes after they opened and had to stand in line.  Did I mention it was cold?  It was in the mid 40's and there was a breeze.  Fortunately we'd dressed for it.

It took about 20 minutes or so before we could go in.  The place was packed, but a lot of the good stuff was already gone.  I scored 5 large size metric sockets I wanted, but the wrenches were gone.  I also got a really good deal on two packages of rope lights for the front gate.  Ellen found some cool wine glasses for $2 apiece.  I also found a cool piece of yard art (I have no idea what it is) for $10.  I didn't score the yard rabbits I wanted to get.  All in all it was successful.

On the way back we stopped at the diesel shop outside Dripping Springs.  They will install the EGT for me and the exhaust.  They said just make an appointment.  I'll do it in a week or so.  I also got an answer from Pullrite concerning a hitch that will fit a 2020.  They won't have one until the summer.  So I emailed the other manufacturer (Demco) and asked what I'll need to order.

On the way home we stopped at the bar at Fitzhugh and RR12.  It was pretty good.  Then we stopped at Home Depot so I could buy some of the stuff I'll need to put the new fireplace in the trailer.  After that it was home.

When we got home it was surfing and TV.  Dinner was a Cajun sandwich we bought home yesterday.  After dinner was more TV and surfing.  We're getting up early tomorrow to shoot at Marble Falls.  That will fill up out 300 target requirement.

Day 1559

It was another morning where we woke up early but stayed in bed because it was in the 40's and raining.  When we did get up it was pet stuff and breakfast.  I didn't have any projects to do, so I decided to finish the remote controlled RC truck I'd started a couple of weeks ago.

It took me until about 2 to finish the truck.  Then we spent some time chasing the cats with it.  The thing is about the size of each of them.  It's slow enough that they are intrigued rather than scared of it.  I think they had fun, too.

After that we decided to go to the post office.  Neither of us had had lunch, so we went to the Cajun place.  We had a coupon that turned out to be for one of their desserts.  We got home just in time to feed the animals.

After a little surfing we went to Hog Heaven for a planning meeting for their fund raising shoot.  It was fun, but I'm not sure we contributed much.  We weren't able to get them to consider a flurry.

When we got home it was TV and surfing.

Wednesday, February 19, 2020

Day 1558

We woke up at 8, but didn't get out of bed until almost 10.  It was 45 degrees and raining.  Plus, we didn't have anything to do.

It was surfing after pet stuff and breakfast.  In awhile I went out to the trailer and took some more measurements of the fireplace area.  Then I sat down with Ellen at the computer to choose a new fireplace.  There were two candidates and it was hard to choose between them.  The main problem was the lack of information on the size and capabilities of the fireplaces.  We finally ordered one.  I hope it works out.

That was about all of the useful activity for the day.  The rest of the day was surfing and reading.  A little later it was TV.

Tuesday, February 18, 2020

Day 1557

I woke up about 6:30 and played games until 7:30 when the alarm went off.  Then I got up, did the pet stuff, and had a glass of orange juice.  Then I left for the doctor's.

The physical was the same old same old.  I complained about my jaw.  He wrote me a prescription for a physical therapist.  He also changed my Lisinopril to another drug because it causes me to cough.  Finally he gave me a tetanus booster.

CVS had my prescription ready by the time I left the doctor.  So I picked it up on the way home. By the time I got home it had started to rain and the temperature had dropped 8 degrees.  I went out to the trailer to take some measurements of the fireplace enclosure.  While I was there I noticed that one of the knobs I'd uses for the screen door latches was too long.  So I replaced it with another.

When I got back I had a ham sandwich for lunch.  Then I spent a lot of time looking for the perfect fireplace replacement.  I found a couple of good candidates.  I'll probably order one tomorrow.

I finally got tired of being at home.  We went to post office.  Then we went to Wally World just to have something to do.  We looked at some stuff and bought a few groceries.

After that it was surfing, games, and TV for the rest of the afternoon and evening.  The temperature kept falling and the rain never stopped.  Ellen fixed rice for the Mongolian Beef we'd bought at Wally World.

After dinner was TV and some games.

Monday, February 17, 2020

Day 1556

We woke up before 8, but spent almost 2 hours playing games.  Then we got up for pet stuff and breakfast.  After that it was surfing.  It was almost noon before I decided to do something useful.

I started out by messing with the new weather display.  I decided to do a power on reset.  I removed the battery and power supply.  Then I let it sit for 10 minutes.  When I plugged it back in It recognized the sensor.  I love it when it's an easy fix.  I took the sensor outside and left it for awhile to see if it continued to work.

I went out to the garage and got the magnets for the trailer step.  I installed them.  They sort of hold the step up.  I left the step up in hopes that it will crush the carpet and make it work a little better.

I had lunch - leftover sausage.  The weather stuff was still working, so I went back outside and finished installing the sensor.  I couldn't finish everything because the battery enclosure hadn't been delivered yet.

I went back inside and surfed.  In a couple of hours the enclosure came, so I went back outside and finished the battery compartment install.  That means that those two projects are done, and I need another.

Ellen fixed coconut shrimp for dinner.  After dinner was TV.

Sunday, February 16, 2020

Day 1565

We got up about 8.  After pet stuff, breakfast, and some surfing I went outside to put up the new weather monitor.  I brought it from the garage to the kitchen to unpack.  There were several boxes.  I gave the WiFi link to Ellen to set up.  I took the rest outside to assemble.

I removed the old sensor and installed the base for the new one.  When I removed the base the area underneath it wasn't painted.  So I taped off the area and painted it with undercoat.  Then I went looking for a compass.  Apparently we don't have one.

I decided to kill two birds with one stone.  We got in the car and drove to Home Depot to exchange the magnets I'd purchased for the trailer step with the ones we really need.  Then we went next door to Academy to get a compass.  We also stopped at Bed, Bath, and Beyond to get a small vacuum cleaner to use on the Traeger.

When we got home I used the compass to figure out where to point the new sensor.  I decided to test it out on the ground before I put it up.  It was good that I did.  None of the outside measurements come up on the display.  I moved the sensor indoors and they still didn't work.  I tried a reset, a new channel, and several positions.  Nothing worked.  I wrote the manufacturer's support an email and gave up.

The rest of the evening was TV.  Dinner was a frozen dinner.

Just before I went to bed I decided to try to use the old weather display.  It worked.  That tells me that the sensor is fine and the new display is fucked.  We'll see what the manufacturer says.

Saturday, February 15, 2020

Day 1564

We got up at 8 today, did the pet stuff, had breakfast, and left for the club.  We took I35.  It actually wasn't bad.  We didn't slow down past about 55 the whole way.

When we got to the club there were no carts left.  Bummer.  So we walked.  We got lucky.  There was a guy willing to join us as soon as we were ready.  We picked up two more people at the first station.

The weather was cloudy with a little wind.  I was comfortable in a fleece shirt though.  We shot botht the prelim and the main with the same people.  Neither of us shot very well.  I just need more practice to re-calibrate my eyes.  I had some good stations and some horrible ones.

Lunch was terrible.  It was salad, cold lasagna, bread stick and a cookie.  We were done by 2:30.  We were also very, very, tired.  We had to drive the back way to get home.  Loop 1 was a parking lot from 35th to well past the river.  I really didn't need the extra drive effort as tired as I was.

When we got home we put everything away, turned on the TV, and sat down in the recliners.  I think we both fell asleep.

Dinner was leftovers.  After dinner was more TV and an early bedtime.

Friday, February 14, 2020

Day 1563

We woke up about 7, but didn't get out of bed until 9.  I had a good time playing games.  When we did get up it was pet stuff and breakfast.  It was cold, low 40's.  After a short surfing session we left for Dripping Springs to sort out the truck license plate thing.

When we got to the DMV they had a sign up saying that their computer was down and they couldn't do anything.  Crap.  So we went to Tractor Supply for bird seed.  Then it was Home Depot.  I bought a pole and base to mount the new weather station.  Then we went to HEB for some groceries and fuel.  The truck read 1/4 full.  I put in 26 gallons.  The same amount of fuel as the old truck's tank held.  According to the gauge we've been averaging 16.7 MPG.  Not bad.  The highest was 23.4.  I"m not sure when that happened.

We called DMV and they said the computer was back up.  We went back.  They told us to replace the current plates with the ones from the dealership.  On the way home we stopped at Tomlinson's and a sports bar in Belterra.  The sports bar had typical bar food, but it was good.

We got home about 2.  I filled the bird seed containers and went out and switched the truck plates.  I also had to switch the window stickers.  That was a pain because it's mounted behind the CTS2.  Then I went to the trailer and finished up putting the bottom stair in and putting everything back together.  I was done with everything at 5, so I took the dog to the mailbox.

Dinner was a salad and a HEB ready made meal.  The meals are a lot more expensive than they were when HEB first introduced them.  After that it was TV.  We went to bed a little early because we have a tournament tomorrow.  We have to get in 300 targets before April.

Thursday, February 13, 2020

Day 1562

We woke up at 7 and got out of bed a little after 8.  It was a read letter day.  I finally finished the second bottle of eye drops from my surgery.  I hadn't thought it would take almost 3 months to use them up.

After pet stuff and breakfast I loaded the truck to go to the range.  Isaac texted me and asked that I check out an estate sale in Circle C.  So that was the first stop.  I don't think they had anything Isaac would be interested in, but I bought a Craftsman wrench I've been looking for for $2.

The drive up to the club was uneventful except for missing an exit.  That lead to an expensive toll road detour.  I started by shooting skeet.  I didn't do well at first, but I was hitting better (not great) after 50 rounds.  Then we shot the corporate course.  It was the only one open because there's a tournament this weekend.  I shot better there, but still kept missing shots I should hit.

It was a little before three by the time we were finished.  We stopped at the post office and Fireman's on the way back.

When we got back I played games for awhile and then took the dog to the mailbox.  Dinner was leftover Fireman's sandwich.  After dinner was more games.

Wednesday, February 12, 2020

Day 1561

I woke up a little after 6, but didn't get out of bed until after 8.  Then it was pet stuff and breakfast.  It was another cold wet day.  So I did a little surfing and then built some Legos.  When I finished the Legos it was some more surfing.

When I went out to take out the garbage there was a FedEx envolope at the gate.  It contained a set of plates for the truck.  I would have gone to Dripping Springs to work it out, but the truck is at the shop.  I tried to call the dealership to ask what they did, but the lady didn't return my call.

Lunch was a ham sandwich.  The body shop called to say the truck was finished.  We couldn't find Cooper.  Ellen said she thought he might have gotten outside.  We spent some time outside looking for him.  I went back in and looked in the pantry.  Ellen swears she never went in the pantry.  I know I didn't.

We went to pick up the truck.  When it was time to pay I noticed my credit card was missing.  I left it at lunch at Longhorn yesterday.  I called them.  They had it, so I drove over and picked it up.

It was warmer and dryer when we got home.  So I went out and trimmed the trees along the driveway.  It's awhile before we need to pull out the trailer, but the trees were getting a little overgrown.  I also hung a new light fixture in the garage.  I was sick of the 60 Hz hum from the old one.

After that it was time to take the dog to the mailbox.  When I got back to the house Ellen said Lucy hadn't shown up.  Because I'd been looking for coupons with the gate open when I got back she could have gone back out.  I walked back to the mailbox to see if she had.  When I got back Lucy had finally showed up for dinner.

Ellen fixed sausage and hashbrowns for dinner.  After dinner was TV and a little surfing.

Tuesday, February 11, 2020

Day 1560

I didn't wake up until 8:30, but I didn't go to sleep until almost 2.  Then it was pet stuff and breakfast.  Then it was time to take the truck to the body shop.  We left the truck there went to the post office.  Then I left my bracelet at the repair shop.

I forgot to mention a sort of tragedy from yesterday.   I went looking for the cool antique lamp I bought at the Armadillo Bazaar.  I couldn't find it.  I finally figured out what happened.  It came home in a brown paper sack with handles.  I put it in the spare bedroom.  When Daniel came I put it under the tree.  Someone filled the sack with scrap wrapping paper and I took it to the garbage.  I didn't think about it because I still remembered it as being in the bedroom.  There went $250 and a really neat lamp.

It was in the 40's and raining.  That went no work.  So went went in search of entertainment.  We stopped at Target to look at Legos and Office Depot to buy printer ink.  Then we went to Costco for water.  We went to Whole Paycheck just to look around.  Then we went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond to look at plates.  They're really expensive.

The final stop was Longhorn for lunch.  We had a coupon.  I got a sandwich with a side of chili.  I ended up eating the chili and taking the sandwich home for dinner.  The body shop didn't call, so we went home.

When we got home Ellen found out that she didn't have to coach.  It was too cold to practice.  So the rest of the afternoon was surfing.

Dinner was the sandwich and a salad.  After dinner Ellen watched chick flicks and fantasy shows.  I surfed and built Legos.  I hope the truck is ready tomorrow.

Monday, February 10, 2020

Day 1559

I woke up about 6:30, but stayed in bed playing games until almost 9.  It was 50 degrees and raining, so there was no reason to get up.  When I did it was pet stuff, breakfast, and surfing.

The surfing didn't last long.  Since there was no working outside, I decided to clean out the pantry.  It's something that has needed doing for a long time.  The process took hours.  We threw away a lot of expired food.  We also threw away some old stuff that we weren't going to ever need.  Things like half open bottles of cleaning solution.

I ended up taking 4 big garbage bags to the garbage.  I also put one big bag of stuff for Goodwill in the car.  Then I had lunch - about 2.

After lunch we went out for errands.  We stopped at CVS for drugs, then Goodwill and the post office.  I stopped at the jewelry repair place, but the jeweler was still gone.  We stopped at HEB for dinner stuff and Tomlinson's to drop off some cat food for the Siamese Rescue.  It was still raining.

When we got home I remembered that I was supposed to bring in the truck in today.  I called and rescheduled for tomorrow.  I also called State Farm.  We got a letter from them today asking if I should be covered on the Audi policy.  The agent said there had been a misunderstanding and they had already corrected it.

After that it was surfing until dinner.  Ellen fixed mac and cheese with sausage.  After dinner was surfing.  Ellen is watching chick flicks.

Day 1558

We got up about 7, but didn't get out of bed until after 9.  It was warm, but raining.  We did pet stuff and breakfast.  I surfed waiting for it to quit raining.

It never did quit.  I wanted it to because most of the work that I have left to do in the trailer involves standing outside reaching into the basement.

About 11 the rain died down.  So I went out to get something done.  I put a second latch on the tread because the first didn't hold it secure.  Then I replaced the remaining screws anchoring the second step.  I can now call that complete.

It started raining harder again, so any more work outside was out.  I went to the garage and reworked the panels that I had to remove to reattach the second step.  I also put away a lot of stuff that I wasn't going to need anymore.  That's all I can do until it stops raining.  At least what is left to do is relatively straightforward.

I had lunch when I went back into the house.  Then it was a little surfing and then TV.  I watched a NOVA program on global warming.  It had some interesting scientific information in it along with a dose of bullshit.

Ellen fixed a waffle (singular) for dinner.  I had some HEB cheetos and hazelnuts to go with it.

After dinner was more TV.

Day 1557

It was another day of waking up early and then staying in bed playing games.  When we did get up it was pet stuff and breakfast.  After that it was surfing until it warmed up about 11.Then I went out to work on the trailer shoe box.

I built partitions to enclose the second step and installed them.  Then I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to install the step tread.  That involved a lot of thinking and examining the pictures for the internet thread.  I finally settled on a solution.

I had a late lunch and then got to work.  I partially attached the second step.  That took some doing to get it aligned like it was before.  I also cut the hinge to length and attached it to the tread.  I also cut braces to attach the hinge to the top step.  That's when I realized I didn't have the corner braces I needed.  We went to ACE to get them (ripoff price - $4 for a package of 4).  We also stopped at Tomlinson's so Lucy could have a cookie.

The girl scouts were out.  I bought another $20 worth of cookies.  That's all I'm going to but - $80 total.

When I got back I took the second step partitions off.  Nothing like having to redo something.  It wasn't easy because half the screws were blocked.  I had to do that because the partitions prevented me from completing the attachment of the second step.

Then I attached the hinge to the top step.  It was one of those jobs where I needed three hands.  I got it done.  However, the tread doesn't close completely.  I installed a latch, but it didn't help.

By then it was 6 and I was tired and disgusted.  I called it quits.  Tomorrow I'll try a different latch.

Dinner was frozen food.  After dinner it was surfing.  I put on a movie I'd purchased with the Rock in it.  The movie sucked.  I lasted about half an hour before I turned it off.

Day 1556

I woke up about 6:30 - couldn't sleep.  So I played games until 8:30 when the alarm went off.  Then it was pet stuff and breakfast followed by a drive to the Audi dealer.

We looked at new cars for awhile - nothing exciting.  Then we got the loaner - an A6.  It's nice, but gets substantially worse mileage than the A5.  We took it to The Range.  I was too lazy to get anything out, so we just rented all of the stuff.  It was expensive - but we're rich.

When we were finished we went to the shopping center at Slaughter and I35. We wanted to go to the hobby shop but it was closed.  We ended up going to a Bed, Bath, and Beyond that was going out of business.  We bought nice sheets for the apartment.  We also stopped at Hobby Lobby so Ellen could get some painting stuff.

Lunch was at a pizza place that allows you to select what you want on your pizza.  They had wonderful lemonade and the pizza was good, too.  There was an Amy's next door, so I had an ice cream cone and Ellen had a big cookie.

The dealership called to say our car was ready.  So we went back and picked it up.  Then we went to the post office, HEB, and the bank.

When we got home I went out to the garage and spray painted the stair tread.  Ellen came out and stained the top of the stair enclosure.  That's the only work we did today.  It was a nice rest day.  Did I mention it was sunny and in the 70's?

Dinner was leftover pizza and a salad from HEB.  After that was a Gold Rush Marathon.  We were a long way behind.

Day 1555

It was cold again this morning - mid 30's.  We stayed in bed until about 8:30.  Then it was pet stuff and breakfast.  After that I went out to the garage to work on the trailer shoe box.

I started by shortening the uprights by .120 inch.  That was to correct for the new top board, which was thicker then the old one.  Then I used the air nailer to attach the old bottom and new top to the uprights.  Then it was time to take Cooper to the vet.

Cooper passed his vet exam with the comment that he's a little fat.  We stopped at Tomlinson's on the way home to get some more dog food enhancement.  Devon has been hissing at Cooper since we got home.  Apparently Cooper doesn't smell right.

I went back out to the garage when we got home.  I spent a bunch of time trying to figure out how to mount the hinge.  I finally went back inside to have Ellen enlarge a couple of the picture s that the website guy had posted.  I also had lunch - a turkey sandwich.

I went back outside and kept working on how it was done.  I finally figured it out.  He attached the hinge to the upper stair.  It's mostly carpet, but there is a couple of wooden supports.  Unfortunately, the hinge I bought is the wrong color and size.

I decided I'd done enough "hard" stuff, so I spent the rest of the afternoon enclosing the bottom step.  That way shoes won't slip in there when we're moving.  If they did, they'd be impossible to get out.  Then I went back to the house for a little surfing before taking the dog to the mailbox.

Ellen fixed sloppy joes for dinner.  Then we went to Lowe's to return the unneeded hinge.  They didn't have the right type, so we went to Home Depot and got what we needed.  We did get Girl Scout cookies at Lowe's.

We got home just in time for pet treats.  After that it was TV and surfing.

Day 1554

We woke up a little after 7, but didn't get out of bed until after 9.  It was cold today - lower 30's.  So there was no point in getting up.  When we did get up it was pet stuff and breakfast.  When I went to put my bracelet on I discovered the clasp was broken.  I went ouit to the trailer and garage to search for the missing piece - no luck.  Then we left to do errands.

The first stop was Lowe's and Home Depot to pick up stuff for the trailer shoe box.  Then we stopped at Petco to get a new pad for Lucy's cage.  Ellen had thrown away the old one and hadn't bothered to order a new one.  We stopped at the jewelry repair place, but their repair person is gone until next week.  The next stop was the post office.

Today was the last day for the Cajon place's coupons.  So we stopped for lunch and then went to Randall's for bread and bananas.

We got home a little before 3.  I went out to the garage to work on the shoe box.  I sanded the bottom of the tread, but I couldn't paint it because it was too cold.  Then I took the top off the stair box.  That took some time, especially removing the staples from the wood.

I spent a lot of time laying out the new top.  I wanted to make the holes as big as possible without weakening the structure.  Then I cut it out.  It came out perfect.  The next step will be shortening the supports.  The new top is 1" thick and the old one was 5/8".  They have to be shortened for everything to fit.

It was 4:30 when I was done.  I surfed for a little bit and then took the dog to the mailbox.  It was 40 degrees.

Dinner was frozen stuff.  It was delayed for awhile when Cooper jumped into the microwave and pulled out the glass turntable.  It broke and scattered glass all over the kitchen.  It was amazing how far it all went.  It took quite awhile to clean up.

After dinner was surfing and TV.

Day 1553

We woke up about 8 and got up a little after.  The next things were pet stuff and breakfast.  After that Ellen noticed that the Living Room TV was tilted on it's mount.  We couldn't figure out what had changed by looking behind the TV.  I went out to the garage and made a couple of wooden shims.  We put them on the mount and they positioned the TV the way it was before.

I called the body shop.  They'll fix the bumper next Monday.

The day was warm and sunny.  Later it got up to 77.  I decided it was a good day to start making the stairs in the trailer into a shoe box.  I used the instructions Ellen found on the web.  They were helpful, but they weren't complete.  I had to reroute some wires that weren't mentioned.  I also had to locate and remove screws that weren't mentioned.  The worst part was a blind screw.  I ended up half ripping it out of the step and then cutting it off with a Dremel.

I finally got the steps removed.  I took the second step to the garage and removed the tread.  I had to use a chisel to separate it from the frame.  Luckily they didn't use a whole lot of glue on it.

By then I'd been working on it of at least 5 hours.  It was 3 and I was hot, sweaty and tired.  I hadn't had lunch either.  I decided to quit.  I went inside and surfed.  I was too tired to eat.

Ellen left to coach.  I surfed for awhile longer and then took a shower.  By then it was time to take the dog to the mailbox.  When Ellen came home I fixed a turkey sandwich for dinner.  John and Melissa are gone, so I'm back to being on my own for meals.

After dinner it was TV and a little surfing.  I'm going to mis having John to talk to in the evening.

Day 1552

We got up about 8 and got out of bed about 9.  Then it was pet stuff and breakfast.  Melissa and John came over about 10:30 and we left for Fredericksburg.

One thing of note.  On the way over we passed the shop of one of the custom car manufacturers that John and I watch on TV.  It was on 290 between Dripping Springs and 281.  It was kind of neat to see it in person.

Our first stop in Fredericksburg was the jeweler.  The shop was shut, with a sign on it that it wouldn't be open until next week.  Everyone was disappointed.  So we went to lunch at the BBQ place instead.  After that we went to the kitchen store.  Melissa and John were suitably impressed.

The final stops were browsing a couple of stores and a stop for cookies.

When we got home John and Melissa went to the apartment to pack.  The weather is going to get bad later in the week, so they are leaving early tomorrow morning.  It's sad to see them go, but they will be back in about 6 weeks to help Isaac move to Dallas.

We spent the evening together and had leftovers for dinner.  Ellen and Melissa talked in the kitchen.  John and I watched car shows and talked.  We said our goodbyes and they went back to the apartment about 8.

Day 1551

We woke up about 7 again, but stayed in bed to play games for an hour or more.  Then it was pet stuff and breakfast.

I scrubbed the kitchen table (it needed it).  Then I collected all of the old mail that's been piling up on the counters and piled it on the table.Ellen and I deivde it into three piles - garbage, file, and shred.  Cooper zoomed out when I opened the door to put the garbage pile in the recycle.

That began about an hour of chasing Cooper through the woods.  He went back and forth in the woods, eventually going almost out to the street.  John came out to help chase him down.  Eventually he got tired and sat down.  Ellen picked him up.  Both of my arms were bleeding from scratches as I chased him through the brush.

After that it was surfing and then some game playing.  I got tired of that and started putting together a Lego set we bought a few days ago.  I didn't feel like working on the complex "pro" set.

I had leftover pizza for lunch.  When I opened the door to take the garbage out Cooper zoomed out again.  He ran all the way from the bedroom out the front door.  Fortunately this time he didn't leavre the front yard.  It was still 10 minutes of chasing him around.

About then John came over.  He watched a car show or two and then we turned on the Super Bowl preview.  We had to watch it for an hour and a half before the game started.  Ellen fixed steaks for dinner.  They were REALLY good.

The game was a very good one.  The teams were evenly matched and tied at halftime.  San Francisco went ahead by 10.  Then Kansas City came back in the last 6 minutes and won 31-20.  Both John and I wanted San Francisco to lose, so we were happy.  The commercials varied from interesting and clever to "what the hell was that".

It was late by the time the game ended.  There was a little surfing and then bed.

Day 1550

I got up at 7, but didn't get out of bed until 10.  I spent the whole time playing a game on my tablet.  After that it was breakfast.  Ellen did the pet stuff before I got up.  John and Melissa wanted to go to the olive oil place.  The tour started at 12:30, so we left the house at 11:30.

The weather was great - low 70's.  We took the tour.  It was a lecture on the history, a short time in the orchard, and then a tour of the processing plant.  It really was interesting.

When we were finished we were going to meet Isaac at the brewery we went to a few weeks ago.  When we got there the place was packed.  I'm not exaggerating.  There was at least 1,000 people there.  We parked and walked up to the place.  The lines were horrendous.  Another place was in order.

Isaac and Bella went to another brewery nearby.  It was packed, too.  We wended up driving about 6 miles to a third place.  It wasn't packed.  We had a late lunch (3 o'clock) at the Indian roach coach.  We sat and drank for quite awhile.

Eventually everyone went back to our place.  I drove over to HEB for pizzas.  We talked until after 8.  Then Isaac left and John and I watched car shows.  He left at 10 and I surfed awhile before going to bed.
