Day 357

I'm feeling a little better today, but I"m still sick.  I' periodically coughing up some amazing stuff, along with the occasional sneeze.

I woke up with the alarm, and did some Minions.  Then I got up and did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  I wasn't really hungry, but I figured I'd better eat.

After breakfast we left to get a replacement blu-ray player.  We ended up buying the same one that we had before.  That made replacing it easy - no reprogramming the remote.  We also stopped at Walgreen's for my drugs and Tomlinson's for cat food.  The last stop was Circle C.  It was sunny, but not that hot - 70's.  I expected Lucy to run a lot after two days off.  She only did 14 though.

When we got home I decided not to push it and sent the rest of the afternoon and evening surfing.  I'm still doing that, Ellen's watching TV.

Day 356

I'm still really sick.  I stayed in bed until mid-afternoon.  I got up because I just couldn't stand being in bed anymore.  I hurt from coughing and sneezing so much.  I do it all night and all day.  I took a couple of migraine pills.  They allowed me to feel god enough to stay out of bed for the rest of the day.

I ate a little bit, but not much.  I drank some, but probably not enough.  Most of the afternoon and evening was surfing.  I did watch some football, but the game was pretty boring.

I think summer is over.  The temperature tonight is 57.

Day 355

I'm really sick.  The night was a litany of coughing.  In the morning  could barely get out of bed.  I took a piss and went back to bed.  I satyed in bed coughing ans napping until 1:30.  Then I had to get up.  Today is a recycle day, so I had to take the stuff out to the can and then put the cans in the street.  I almost didn't make it.

After that I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening sitting in the recliner.  I would cough a lot and occasionally sneeze.  I feel like shit.

I'm hoping I'll feel better tomorrow.

Day 354

We got up with the alarm because the windows guys were supposed to be here at 8.  They didn't make it until 9.  So it was pet stuff, breakfast, and surf while waiting.  I did have to go out and open the gate (more on that later).

I received a couple of email magazines late yesterday, so I had plenty of reading material while they worked.  It took them about 6 hours to do the work.  They could have saved themselves some time if they had just broken out the old windows.  instead they used a torch to try to take them out intact.  Of 8 panes, they managed to remove one intact.  The others all broke.

As soon as they left, so did we.  We had to go to HEB and buy something for Ellen to take to a party this afternoon.

After we got home I started to install the blinds.  I did the bathroom.  It needed new holes, so it was basically a new install.  Ellen left for the party, so I did one of the kitchen windows myself.  It used the old holes, so it went fairly quickly.  I didn't do the other one because I need to wait for the caulking they put around the window to dry.

After that I officially completed the  safe move.  I took the two furniture dollies to the back shed.  After that I made the bed (this was wash day) and took a shower.

I'm feeling pretty sick.  Last night wasn't restful, I kept waking up to cough or because I couldn't breath.  It's been getting worse all day.  When I got out of the shower I was freezing.  I put on long pants and almost used the Minions blanket.  Instead I fixed some soup.  That helped.

The rest of the evening was watching random TV shows.  I kept feeling worse.  The finally was having to go out twice to close the gate.  I couldn't do it the first time because I needed a light to reconnect the opener.  That thing is getting fixed or replaced tomorrow.

Day 353

We woke up with the alarm this morning.  Then we spent the next hour gaming and surfing.  After that it was get up, pet stuff, and breakfast.  The temperature was the coolest it's been in months - 70.  I went out to the gate.  It wasn't working.  I couldn't do anything to debug it because it was raining.  After the gate investigation it was time to move the safe into the apartment.  It's been a pain in my ass for weeks.

First I went out and made a place for it in the second bedroom.  I moved the speakers into the first bedroom and moved the ammo out of the corner.  Then I got Ellen to help me put the safe on the dolly.  Getting the loaded dolly out of the garage was a pain.  There was a raised threshold that we had a hard time getting over.  After that it was smooth sailing moving it into the room, off the dolly, and into the corner.  Finally I had to restack all of the ammo.

After that it was time for some surfing, lunch, and a shower.  Then we did a little more surfing and then we went to the post office and Costco.  I wanted to get some batteries.  We were near out, and they are the only source of light when the power is out.

When we got home I discovered that the gate had latched itself when I closed it manually.  That's the first time that's ever happened.  I had to climb over the fence, get tools, and unbolt the latch.  I thought I could do a quick fix with cable ties.  Nope.  I had to fabricate a bracket to hold back the spring loaded bolt, drill a hole, and mount it.  It was a pain in the ass.

After that I didn't feel like doing anything.  No such luck.  When I got back inside I had to take the window coverings down on the three windows that they are going to replace tomorrow.  I also had to move a bunch of furniture away from them.

By the time I was finished it was time for dinner.  After dinner I was going to watch the gun shows, but they are all reruns.  So I watched football.  The first half was fairly good, but the game turned into a laugh-er in the second half.  So I watched some other stuff and played Minions.

Day 352

Today started out fairly normally.  Got up about an hour after the alarm went off, did the pet thing, and had breakfast.  Then we played games (me Minions) and surfed the morning away.  While I was surfing I ran across a group of youtube videos showing braindead feminazis spouting crap.  I listened to it for about 45 minutes, laughing all the time.  Then Ellen said no more.  It's like my watching Cops.  It proves that the country in inhabited by dumbshits and assholes.  She knows that, but doesn't want to be reminded of it.

After lunch we went over to Walgreen's to get some pills for Ellen.  Then we stopped at the grocery store.  The final stop was Circle C to run the dog.  She did 12 retrieves, which was pretty good considering the temp.

When we got home I forgot it was Sunday, so I didn't watch any football.  Of course Ellen didn't remind me.  Instead I did Minions and surfed.  No more feminazi videos.

About 4:30 I took a shower in preparation for going to this concert/potluck one of the neighbors was having.  A really nasty thunderstorm was just starting.  We got 1.75 inches of rain in about half an hour.  The lights went out just as I got out of the shower.  The alarm company called because the power was out.  We could barely communicate because it was raining so hard and the phone was almost useless.

I went outside ans saw that the bar fuse on the pole had blown.  I told Ellen to notify PEC.  Their phone system sucks (you can't say what's wrong), and their website requires that you be a member of some social media thing I've never heard of to enter a problem.  I went out an opened the gate.  I had to disconnect the actuator to do it.  Then I stayed home while Ellen went to the concert.

I spent the evening reading magazines via flashlight.  No dinner because no power.  Ellen got home a little after 9.  She figured oiut a way to put in a real trouble report via her phone.

About 10:30 I went out to take out the garbage and close the gate.  The PEC truck was coming down the driveway.  It took them about 20 minutes to replace the fuse.  I had a nice talk with the supervisor while his crew fixed the fuse.  He had some cool stories.  Apparently they started the evening in Lakeway, and after us they were going to help fix a down line near here.  When they left I took out the garbage and reconnected the gate.  It wouldn't work when I tested it.  That's a problem for tomorrow.

Lee texted me to ask if everything was OK.  I said that it was just PEC fixing the fuse.

When I got back to the house I just went to bed.

Day 351

I got up when the alarm went off today because I couldn't sleep anymore.  I played a little Minions and then got up.  After that it was pet stuff and breakfast.  I surfed and Minioned for awhile.  Then we left for Dripping Springs.

There was a gun show there today.  I went inside and Ellen stayed in the car with the dog.  The show was normal, except there seemed to be a lot of nice older guns.  I just didn't feel like buying anything.

After the show we stopped at a pizza place and got some lunch to go.  We went over to the park to eat it.  We couldn't run the dog because all of the soccer fields were being used.  We figured someone would get upset if they saw her off lead.

When we got home it was ugly, very hot and humid.  It was like a sauna.  We went inside and I surfed for awhile.  About 3 I went to the garage to see if I could find some of the Sony surround sound speakers.  The speakers that I had got at Goodwill sounded so bad that it was better not to have the radio on.  I found them in the box in the attic.

The project expanded from there.  First I fond the speakers.  Then I built a shelf for the subwoofer and attached it to the wall then I mounted three speakers (left, center, right) to the wall.  The result sounds great, but it took 2 and a half hours to do.  A lot of the work involved working in the garage, or near the ceiling, so I was soaked with sweat when I was done.

It rained hard for about 20 minutes while I was working.  It sounded loud in that metal building.  The storm dumped about an inch of rain.

It was dry by the time I was done.  I went back to the house and took a shower.

The evening was a little Minions, TV, and a couple of movies.  We also watched a couple of shows that had been taped earlier.

Day 350

We got up this morning when the alarm went off.  I did a little Minions and then got up to do the pet stuff and have breakfast.  There was an estate sale in Dripping Springs that I really wanted to go to.  It started at 9, so we left about 8:45.

The sale was about 14 miles on the other side of Dripping Springs.  The house was expensive, on 41 acres of land.  There was a nice shop, full of nice tools.  I didn't need any.  I went there for two weed eaters.  One electric, and the other a wheeled gas one.  The electric one was $30 because it was missing a part.  I plugged it in to make sure it worked.  They wanted $200 for the wheeled one, which was way too much.  I bought the electric one and a $3 bag of Legos for Martha.

We went back to Dripping Springs and ran the dog.  She only did about 5 or 6 retrieves.  It was a little hot, and I think she was tired from yesterday.  We sat in the park for awhile, and then went to lunch.  We went to this cafe/bakery we'd never been to before.  It was good.

On the way home we stopped at the mower repair place to get the part for the weed eater.  They had it, but it didn't fit.  I wish it had, it was only $5.  Instead I ended up buying a whole new head for $40 - $10 more than I paid for the weed eater.  It's worth it though.  The old one is wearing out, and they don't make these electric ones anymore.

After a stop at the post office we went home.  I couldn't do any masonry because it might rain.  So I installed the antenna I got for the stereo I'm putting in the apartment kitchen.  It worked great, but I was hot and sweaty when finished.  The AC worked fine, but it was hot up by the ceiling where I was working.

I went back into the house and took a shower after playing Minions for awhile and taking the dog to the mailbox.

The evening was listening to a guy named Ben Shapiro on the web.  He's this conservative speaker that really hates liberals.

I also called Mom.  Hooch want's me to call her to keep her busy.  They are up in Seattle where Martha's mother is in the hospital.  It doesn't look like she'll live very much longer.  Cancer sucks.

Day 349

I got up when the alarm went off and played a little Minions.  I was planning on going to an estate sale, but I realized that I didn't know if it was on Thursday or Friday.  I logged on and found out it was Friday.  So I got back in bed and surfed for awhile.

I got up after a little while and did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  Since there wsn't any estate sale, I went out to work on the foundation.

I set up the leveling strings for the other two sides of the foundation.  Then I mixed up some mortar and started setting the stones.  I finished both sides.  When I measured the west side I found out that both of the corner stones were level.  That meant that all I had to do was fill in the top of the stones with mortar.  I filled that side u t just before the level I think it should have.  This is the first time I've done this, so I want to take it slow.

That's likely to be the only work I do on the foundation for several days.  It's supposed to rain through the weekend.

I went back in and took a shower.  Then I played some Minions and surfed.  I had lunch about 1.  After that we went to the post office, HEB, and Circle C to run the dog.  She did pretty good considering it was over 95 and sunny.  I could have gone to an estate sale in Lakeway, but I just didn't feel like driving there.

When we got home it was a lot of surfing and a little Minions.  I did take the dog to the mailbox, but it was hot.

The evening was watching TV shows.  Later there was a football game, but it sucked.  The Texans aparently decided that they would play for New England tonight.

Day 348

I got up when the alarm went off, but I stayed in bed and played Minions for over an hour.  Then I got up, did the pet stuff, had breakfast, and did some surfing.

Originally I was going to take the day off, but I decided to start applying mortar to the pump shelter foundation.  I was tired of worrying that it wasn't going to be very easy.   I got the Lowe's bucket from the back porch and another bucket that has been out by the back fence for years.  I filled the Lowe's bucket with water and used the other one to mix the mortar.  That bucket had been in the sun too long.  Pieces were always breaking off.

Mixing and applying the mortar turned out to be pretty easy.  It was almost fun.  It took a little more than an hour to do the two sides that I'd put up leveling strings for.  When I started it was 83 degrees with 83% humidity.  So I was soaked with sweat when done.  I'd also acquired several new mosquito bites.  I couldn't do any more because I need longer stakes to anchor the leveling lines for the other two sides.  Also, I was running out of mortar mix.

So I cleaned everything off and threw away the trashed the bucket.  Then I went inside and took a shower.  After the shower I did a little surfing until Ellen's pump started to run dry.  We got in the car and went to the doctor's.

After the doctor we went to the yuppie grocery.  I also stopped and picked up another pair of summer shoes.  My current ones are wearing out.  When did I get to the point that I was OK with buying $100 shoes?  The next stop was the Thai place for a late lunch.  We were both really hungry.

The last two stops were Home Depot (for mortar mix, a bucket, and two pieces of rebar) and the post office.  It was after 4 when we got home.

The rest of the day was surfing and TV for me.  Ellen went to a pistol shooting class.

Day 347

I specifically decided to turn over and go to sleep when the alarm went off.  I didn't wake up until about 9.  Then I sent an hour laying Minions.  After that I got up, did the pet stuff, and ate breakfast.

After breakfast I decided to spry the parking area.  The grass/weeds have been making a significant come back.  I decided to do it all with the tow behind sprayer.  It worked great.  I might have wasted some herbicide, but it was a whole lot easier than doing it with the hand sprayer.  All I did was drive the lawn mower.  It still took about 2 hours, and I was hot and sweaty when I was done.

I went back inside, took a shower, did some surfing, and then had lunch.  Then we took Lucy to the post office, the bank, and Circle C.  She did 14 retrieves, which was great considering the temperature was 100.  She was disappointed that we didn't go back to that wonderful place with all the dog treats.

Ellen is not feeling well.  The poison is taking it's toll, so we didn't do anything else.

When we got home it was too hot to do anything outside.  So we stayed inside and surfed.

The evening was watching TV.  First we watched some remodeling shows, and then we watched a sci-fi series on Netflix.  It's really nice being able to watch a show without it being interrupted every 5 minutes with several minutes of stupidity that you've seen a million times before.

Monday, September 19, 2016

Day 346

I slept in a little bit this morning and then played a little Minions.  I got out of bed about 8:30, did the pet stuff, and ate breakfast.  Ellen's appointment was late - 11:10.  So I spent the time until we left surfing.  I also made tags for all of the gun cases so that I would know what was in them without opening them.

After I took Ellen to the doctor I went to the post office.  They were working on the soccer field, so I took Lucy to Circle C to run.  She did 14 retrieves, which was really good since the temperature was in the mid 90's.

When I got home I ate lunch and did a little surfing.  I began to feel guilty about not doing anything.  So I re-positioned the door stop for the safe door.  That required attaching a new piece of metal and grinding it off.  It took me two tries to get the length right.  After that I attached the speakers for the stereo I'm putting in the apartment kitchen.  It's not going to work without a powered antenna.  I also cleaned Ellen's new gun.  Finally I started doing leveling strings for the pump shelter foiundation.  I got two of them done before I ran out of time.

I picked Ellen up at the doctor's and drove to a health food store to get her some supplements.  Then we ate a very early dinner at Wendy's.  We were done before 5.

We went home and I did a little more surfing until it was time to go to the board meeting.  There wasn't anything really noteworthy at the meeting.  When I got home I watched a little football and some other TV.

Sunday, September 18, 2016

Day 345

I got up as soon as the alarm went off.  I did a few minutes of Minions and then got out of bed.  After pet stuff and breakfast I went outside.  It was ugly, high 70's and high humidity.

I started by gluing the concrete blocks for the pump shelter foundation.  The glue seemed to work well.  It immediately bonded the blocks.  There wasn't any sliding them into place.  I had just enough adhesive to do the job.  I put the extras away and got things read for laying out the rocks for using mortar to put them in place.

That job took about half an hour, so then I went to work on the deck.  I put in the last to boards.  When I removed the first old board I was greeted by a large mass of fire ants.  That required a detour to the garage to get ant poison.  It had just been getting hotter, so I was soaked in sweat and tired by the time I got that done.

We left for the dog party after I took a shower.  It involved driving I35 from 290 to about halfway through downtown.  I35 was uncrowded and moving at speed.  I've never seen it that way at 10:30 in the morning.

We found a parking space right outside the dog party.  It was pretty neat.  They had two food trucks and free beer.  They also had all you can eat doggie ice  cream and doggy treats.  Lucy had two bowls of ice cream and a bowl and a half of dog treats.  She would have eaten more, but Ellen wouldn't let her have any more.  Lucy got to meet and great a whole lot of doggies.  There were 1600 people there and I don't think there were any dog fights.  It was fun.

We left about 2:00.  Because we'd never been in that section of the city, we spent some time driving through the neighborhood.  It's a lot of cheap student housing (old houses) and a lot of restaurants and bars.  A lot of it was brightly colored.

We stopped at the post office on the way home.  When we got home we surfed (I played Minions) because the weather was really ot and humid.  Apparently it's record temperatures.

In the evening it was TV, reading, and football.

Saturday, September 17, 2016

Day 344

I got up when the alarm went off this morning.  I did a little Minions and then got out of bed.  After the pet stuff and breakfast I got Ellen out of bed.  I surfed while she had breakfast.  Then we put away the pets and drove to Round Rock.  This is the second day Lucy has been in the cage for most of the day.  I think she thinks we hate her.  It will get much better tomorrow.

The trip to Round Rock was fast and easy.  We actually had fun at the gun show.  We had to park on the side street again, but that was the only bad thing.  The show was entertaining.  We bought a laser sight for Ellen's 938 and some fudge.  That was it.  After the show we went to lunch at a restaurant by where we had parked.  We hadn't been there before, but the food was good and so was the service.  I had a breakfast quesadilla which was big enough to supply dinner also.

It was about 2 as we started back.  Traffic was backed up on I35, so we had to drive 2 or 3 miles on the frontage road (which was crowded).  After we got back on it was clear sailing all the way home.  We stopped at HEB for milk and bread, but didn't go to the post office.

It was really hot and humid when we got home.  Idiot me went out to work on the deck.  I finished screwing down the board I did yesterday.  Then I replaced one other board.  By then I was dripping with sweat and really hot and fatigued.  So I quit.  I still have one long board and one short board to go.  I'm just not sure what other boards I'm going to replace.

After a shower I sat, surfed, and played some Minions.  Then we watched some TV - hunting and house flipping shows.  Texas vs Cal was a lat game, starting at 9:30.  Texas is winning right now, but I'm not going to stay up to watch the end.

Friday, September 16, 2016

Day 343

I woke up a little before 7 and couldn't get back to sleep.  So I played Minions and surfed for about an hour.  Then I got up, did the pet thing, and had breakfast.  After that I went to the garage to get a charged battery and then went out to work on the deck.

I finished screwing in the board I had been working on.  Then I replaced another board.  It fought me.  First, it had two screws I couldn't unscrew and a nail.  I had to break up the board.  As I did so I disturbed a wasp on the pot rack near by.  It stung me.  That pissed me off so I went to the garage, got some wasp spray, and wiped it and it's buddy out.  When I tried to put in the new board it was too long.  It took three tries at careful shaving with the jigsaw to get it the right length.  I started screwing it down and got half way done before I ran out of screws.  That was the end of the deck work.

Cabela's had sent me an email saying that they had a 10% off sale on firearms.  That made the pistol Ellen liked have very good price.  So we left Lucy at home and went to Red's.  They were packed, three separate bachelor parties.  We left and went to Home Depot (for screws), the pet store (for cat food - we had a coupon that was about to expire), and Longhorn for lunch (we had a coupon there too).

After that we went back to Red's.  Ellen tried the Glock and the M&P. She didn't like the Glock, the M&P was OK.  Then she tried the VP9 again.  She shot that the best.  They had one at Red's for $711.  Cabela's price was $675.  I told them that I'd buy it there if they sold it to me for $700.  They said no.  So we went to Cabela's.

We got the pistol at Cabela's.  We also got 10% off on some ammo and an additional $20 off on the ammo purchase.  All in all it was a score.

We ate at Wendy's before going home.

When we got home we just sat - we were tired.  In the evening we watched the new Z nation and a couple of episodes of a sci-fi show called Dark Matter.

Thursday, September 15, 2016

Day 342

We stayed in bed for a little while this morning - surfing and playing games.  Then it was get up, pet stuff, breakfast, and some more surfing.

There was an interesting estate sale at Slaughter and Brodie, so about 10:30 we left for it.  The house was a hoarder's house.  It was filled with porcelain animals, Barbie dolls, Christmas stuff, and all sorts of knick naks.  The only thing there was none of was bunnies.  I bought a small string of incandescent lights and a Coca-Cola bear ornament.

After that we took the dog to the pet store to get a bath.  She was pretty stinky.  After the bath we went to Home Depot for more deck lumber.  The last stops were the post office and McDonald's.  I didn't run Lucy because shes run the last three days straight.

When we got home I started work on the deck.  It was hot and humid, with no clouds.  I worked  for 3+ hours replacing boards and repairing the steps.  It would have been easier if I had some good screw bits and more than one charged battery.  I forgot how many screws it takes.  I had an almost full box, and didn't have enough to finish.  I finally had to quit when I ran out of battery and only had a few screws left.

After that I was very tired, hot, and sweaty.  I played a little Minions to recover and then took a shower.

The early evening was listening to Ellen's fashion shows.  The rest of the evening was football.

Day 341

We got up with the alarm today.  It was a quick shave/brush teeth, then pet stuff.  There was no time for breakfast.  We had to be at the Mazda place at 8:40.  I left at 8 and it was good that we did.  The stop lights on Mopac weren't bad, but the backup for downtown started at the William Cannon exit.  I got off there, waited at the light, and then got back on.  That allowed me to use the exit lanes to get to 290.  It's the only reason we got there on time.

It didn't take all that long for the oil change and inspection.  Better yet, there was no charge (really pre-paid).  Unfortunately the car's been recalled and it will take half a day to fix it.  We'll have to schedule a time to do that.  Lucy even got a couple of treats.  I played a lot of Minions.  We had to sit in front of a TV playing a daytime talk show.  It was painful.

After the oil change we stopped at hate-chicken for a late (10:00) breakfast.  The number of people going through the drive through and inside was amazing.  They had a guy out there directing traffic and another taking drive through orders.  They were needed.  Lucy got some egg.

We then went over to Lowe's to get lag bolts and stuff to make a door stop for the safe door.  I also got a better latch for the metal cabinet.  Lucy got a lot of petting, but no treats.  The next stop was the soccer field.  Lucy did 15 long retrieves, which was impressive because it was sunny and hot.  After a stop at the post office we went home.

When we got back I took out the recycling and then went to the garage to assemble a door stop and replace the cabinet latch.  It was hot in the garage, but I figured I'd need a shower later anyway.

I took the door stop back to the house and installed it.  It worked sweet.  Then I bolted the safe to the wall.  The first bolt went easy.  The second and third caused me grief.  The drill hung up on the interior felt and balled it all up.  Then the drill got dull and didn't want to drill through the safe.  It took quite awhile to fix.

By then it was 2 and I stopped for lunch and a shower.  Afterwards I decided to load the safe even though I was pretty tired.

The internal space in the new safe is significantly smaller than the old one.  It's 2 inches shallower, and the walls are thicker.  I spent a lot of time making sure the shelves were in the optimal place.  I even went out to the garage cut, and rewrapped, one of the extra shelves to allow me to use part of the right hand long gun space as a shelf.  The pockets on the inside of the door were really helpful.

I did manage to get everything into the new safe except for one rifle which I switched with one in the small safe.  It's not going to hold anything else.  The good thing is that even though it's more crowded, things are actually a little more accessible.  I'm happy.

I didn't get finished until almost 5:30.  I was really tired - it was a full day.  The evening was reading, surfing, and TV.  Basically occupy recliner.

Day 340

I couldn't get to sleep last night.  I finally did - after 2.  When the alarm went off this morning I tried to turn over and go back to sleep.  No go.  So I played Minions instead.  After an hour or so I got up, did pet stuff (including vomit cleanup), and had breakfast.

The safe guy called and said he'd be here at 10:45.  So we surfed until then.  He was right on time.  They brought in the safe, set it up, and even bolted it to the floor.  Unfortunately they could only bolt the front.  The back holes matched up to the old bolts that I'd cut off.  It was worth the extra money.

After they left, we left.  We went to the post office and then ran the dog at the soccer field.  She did 20 retrieves.  It was clouidy and only in the high 80's.  After that we stopped for sandwiches.  The last stop was Home Depot where I got some replacement boards for the deck and some 2x4's for the well head shelter if I ever get to finish the foundation.

When we got home I unloaded the truck.  That's when I realized I should have bought a couple of more boards.  Oh well.  I spent a little time in the garage putting stuff away so that it will be easier to place the safe.  It was hot an humid, I was sweating, so I went inside.

After about an hour of surfing I decided to finish bolting the safe.  I got all the stuff from the garage - it took three trips because I kept forgetting things.  It took awhile to figure out where the shelves needed to go.  Unfortunately the indies of this safe are smaller than the old one.  It will be a challenge to fit everything in.

I drilled the first hole.  Because of the thicker safe walls I don't have long enough bolts.  There will be another trip to Home Depot tomorrow.

In the evening I decided to go out and finish the reloading I quit the other day.  The primer feed is still giving me fits.  I did finish the box though.

When I got back I watched a zombie movie.  I tried to call Mom to wish her happy birthday, but she didn't answer the phone.

Day 339

We stayed in bed for a little while this morning - surfing and Minions.  Then it was get up, pet stuff, and breakfast.  Then it was time to move the safe.  We started at 10 and it took until three, without stopping for lunch.

Some things made it harder.  First, I dropped the front of the dolly when we were getting it out the front door.  There was no way I was lifting it back up.  That required a whole lot of maneuvering to get the small dolly under the front, move it to the edge of the porch, and down onto the driveway.

Moving it across to the apartment was a bitch.  I used the metal tube (really conduit) to lever it forward about 6 inches at a time.  Of course the sun was shining and it was really hot.  We got about half way and decided a change was necessary.  I got the truck, hooked it up to the dolly and dragged it as near to the garage as I could get it.  It took time and effort to back the truck around it.

After that it got better.  I hooked up the engine lift to the dolly, lifted up the front end, and dragged it into the garage.  Then I used the lift to stand the safe up.  That was it for today.  It will probably be Thursday before we position it in the apartment.

After that we both were really tired and needed showers.  This was a lot of hard work for Ellen too, and she did a great job.

About 3:15 we left for the post office and lunch.  We stopped at Freddy's for lunch.  They gave Lucy a dish of ice cream.  After that it was a short stop at HEB and then home.  We both sat down in the chairs and didn't move.  The evening was gun shows and football.

Day 338

Not much happened today.  We stayed in bed surfing and playing Minions for quite awhile.  After getting up it was pet stuff, breakfast, and more surfing.  Ellen's bag leaked (we changed it last night at midnight, so we did another change.  I also tried to do some reloading, but the reloader just kept fucking up, so I got frustrated and quit.  About noon we went out to get the mail (we didn't yesterday) and some cat food.

After the pet store we stopped at Doc's Backyard for lunch.  It was nice on their porch under the fans.  We watched a football game.  There were a lot of people doing the same thing.

When we got home I watched football and read for the rest of the afternoon and evening.  Like I said, not much happened.

Day 337

When the alarm went off this morning I turned over and went back to sleep for an hour.  Then I played Minions for another hour.  We didn't get out of bed until 10.  There didn't seem to be any reason to, since it was raining.  That meant no mowing.

When I got up I did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  The rain didn't last long, but it remained cloudy.  We srufed for awhile, and then left about noon.  By that time it was sunny.

We went to Dripping Springs to buy bird seed at Tractor Supply.  We bought 100 lbs.  The birds go through it pretty quickly.  After that we stoped at the pizza place for lunch.  They let us eat on the deck with the dog.  After a leisurely lunch we took the dog to the park.  y that time it was sunny and in the 90's.  She still did 14 retrieves.

We got hoe about 3.  I checked the grass.  It hadn't rained much, and the sun had dried the grass out.  So I got on the mower.  I was planning on doing whatever I could do in 2 hours and quit.  I ended up mowing everything that was left to do in a little under an hour and a half.  Thar included going a lot of it three time.  It took three passes because the grass was so thick and high - over two feet.

While I was mowing some predators showed up.  I saw a snake by the archery target.  It was dull brown with dull tan bands.  It was over 3 feet long.  A buzzard flew over to look for things I might have scared up.  Finally, a road runner showed up on the lawn between the front door bushes and the Aloe plants.

After that I took a shower and did a little surfing.  After dinner we watched movies.

Day 336

I got up a little after the alarm went off.  There wasn't any Minions to play.  I did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  Then` I did a little bit of surfing.

I wanted to get out and do the rest of the weed eating before it got too hot (it was 80 with 90% humidity).  It took about an hour to complete it.  I was done by 10.  I decided that was too early to quit, so I got out the mower.  It was nice to ride instead of swinging the weed eater.

I did the driveway, the area beside the trailer, the pump head area, the area by the truck, the burb barrel area, the middle front area, and the front yard over to the sewer outlets.  I also did the edges of the road from our place all the way to the stop sign - both sides.  That left a whole lot of grass on the road, but it will blow away in a few days.  All of that took 2.5 hours.

I decided to go in, have a shower, and eat lunch.  About 2 we went to the post office.  We took the dog so she could run.  We went for yogurt and ran her by the parking lot there.  It was hot and sunny - high 90's.  She still did 13 retrieves.

When we got home we hid out from the heat and surfed.  In the evening we watched movies and read.

Hopefully I'll have enough ambition to finish the mowing tomorrow.

Day 335

I got up with the alarm.  There was no particular reason, I just did.  I stayed in bed for an hour and a half playing Minions.  After that it was pet stuff and breakfast.

The grass is really high because of the rain.  It's probably as high and thick as I've ever seen it.  It finally got to me, so I decided to start edging.  Originally I was only going to do the back yard.  I ended up doing the back yard, both side yards, the four sewer sprayers by the house, and the berm by the septic.  Basically it was everything I could reach with a 100 foot cord connected to the back outlet.  It took over two hours.

Ellen called me in saying it was getting near time to go to the doctor's.  That wasn't really true.  I ended up coming in, took a shower, did some surfing, and ate lunch.  By then it was time to go.  Lucy was crushed that she couldn't go.  I took the gas can to prepare for using the mower.

After the doctor we stopped at the post office, the gas station, and HEB.  It was in the high 90's when we got home.  We hid out surfing for the rest of the afternoon.

The evening was a movie, and now football.

Day 334

We got up as soon as the alarm went off.  I went out immediately and opened the gate.  The AC repair guy showed up just when he said he would, a little before 8:30.  He checked out the apartment AC and said it was working.  Apparently the relay is temperature sensitive and works when it's cooler.  How great.  An AC that only works when it's cool.  He said everything checks out, but that the relay and the capacitor were old and probably problematic.  I told him to replace them.  The bill came to $550, but it's nice and cool in the apartment now.

This took about an hour.  We surfed a little (I played Minions).  Lucy's vet called.  Her blood test showws no indication of Valley fever.  I'm not sure if I should believe that test, or the earlier one that showed a raised level.  Oh well.  We'll see in 6 months.  This reminded Ellen called Fletcher's vet.  It was time to get Fletcher's stitches removed.  It was a little bit after 10, and they said they could do it at 11.  So we went there.

Fletcher's visit lasted about 10 minutes.  We stopped to get Lucy's nails done, but they were too busy.  So we stopped at the post office and then went home.

On the way home Wally World texted saying that the new futon was in.  So we left the pets at home and went took the truck there.  We waited at the front desk for awhile just to learn that we need to go to the back.  There was no one working at the back, bt eventually they came.  The box was huge, but didn't weigh much.  I put it in the back of the truck and used bungee cords to hold it.

On the way back we stopped at Red's to look at pistols.  Ellen wants to shoot steel.  She looked at 4 different makes, and picked two to shoot in the evening at the women's range shoot.  Driving home the box fell off on 1826 just past Convict Hill.  It was dragging behind, because a safety bungee I connected had held.  We stopped in the left turn lane and re-bungeed everything.  That held until we got home.

We put the new futon on the frame.  Lucy seems to like it a lot.  We'll see if the cats piss on it.

For me the evening was some surfing and a movie.  Ellen went to Red's.  She liked both guns, and brought home targets  that showed that she shot both pretty well.

Day 333

I got up after a little bit of Minions because I thought we had to leave early to go tothe doctor.  It turned out we didn't have to be there until 10.  So that left plenty of time for pet stuff, breakfast, and surfing.  Ellen even got some of the wash started.

After I left Ellen at the doctors I took Lucy to the soccer field and ran her.  It was cool (84) and cloudy.  She did 18 50+ yd retrieves.  I was proud of her.  Then it was the post office and home.

When I got home I unzipped the futon cover and tore it up into pieces.  It was a messy and stinky job.  I filled up the garbage can as well as 3 of the little garbage sacks.  When I was done with that I did a little more Minions and surfing.  I didn't eat lunch because I knew Ellen would be hungry.

She was scheduled to be done at 1:30, but she didn't get done until 2.  We went to a restaurant next to the yuppie grocery store.  We'd never been there and I thought we'd try it.  They seated us and then we waited for 20 minutes with no one coming to give us water or take our orders.  So we got up and left.

There was a Thai place across the street.  We went there.  It was OK, not spectacular, food.  There was enough to make two meals, so we both got take home boxes.

After a stop at the yuppie grocery we went home.  We got a small chocolate cake there to celebrate our anniversary.

It was after 4 when we got home.  It was REALLY hot and muggy.  We hid out inside for the rest of the day.  We actually had a short rainstorm.  A tenth of an inch of rain in about 5 minutes.

The evening was all surfing.  We didn't turn on the TV at all.

Day 332

Today kind of sucked.  It started out OK, we woke up with the alarm, but stayed in bed for about an hour surfing and playing games.  Then it was get up, do the pet stuff, and have breakfast.  After that I surfed and played a little Minions until about 10:30 or 11.

Then the shit started.  Lucy wouldn't sit on the couch, or in her bed.  We looked and found out that the cats had pissed all over both of them.  The futon is ruined.  The dog bed was washable.  I'm going to have a great time cutting up that cat piss soaked futon to put it in the garbage can.

Then I went out to the garage to do some reloading.  I knew it was going to be hot, but I figured I'd only be out there for a limited time and I'd have the fan.  Hah.

I moved the reloader to the kitchen table.  I decided to check the powder drop.  The battery was dead - so a trip to the house.  The scale wouldn't zero.  I tried all sorts of things and finally gave up.  It's history.  Fortunately I had a backup.  The drop was OK.  I loaded about 10 rounds.  I was having real trouble seating the bullets, so I was concentrating on that.  Then I noticed that the powder drop wasn't working anymore.  As I operated it to see what was wrong, a part fell off.  Then it was 10 or 15 minutes on the floor until I found it.  I ended up tightening two screws that had worked themselves loose even though they both had lock washers.

I fought with seating the bullets for awhile and finally broke down and adjusted the powder drop die to bell the case more.  Of course I had to fight the wrench to turn the die.  After that the primer feed got worse and worse.  I was double clutching the press to feed a primer.  I did 34 rounds before I noticed that the double clutch could occasionally cause a double powder charge.  So I had to weigh all of them looking for any double charges.  Because the different headstamp brass had different weights I had to match them with known good ones.  I ended up identifying three that I threw away.

All the time it was getting hotter and hotter.  About 2 (three hours in) I left to have lunch.  I'd only done 100 rounds, so after lunch I went back.  By then it was at least 90 in the apartment.  The primer feed was still giving me a pain in the ass.  I did finally figure out a workaround that was better than single feeding the ones it didn't feed.  I made a little better time, except for the primers I spilled on the floor.

I finally finished another 125 rounds.  At that point I ran out of bullets.  I had wasted 25 out of the 250 due to the various problems.  It was 5.  I'd spent 6 hours loading 225 rounds.  I did the math on what the primers, bullets, and powder cost me, and I'm not sure I saved that much money.

Things got worse when I went back to the house.  After I took a shower Ellen gave me a big hug and said "Happy anniversary".  I'd spent our 40th anniversary in the garage. Crap.

The rest of the evening was surfing and watching the TV gun shows.

Day 331

When the alarm went off this morning I turned it off and went back to sleep for an hour.  Then I played Minions for another half hour.  I finally got up, did the pet stuff, and had breakfast.  Then it was surfing and more Minions.

About 11 we took the the dog for some entertainment.  We wanted to make up for yesterday.  We stopped at the post office and then went to Zilker.  There was a fair number of people there, but not many dogs.  We threw the bumper for Lucy and walked around the park a little.  She found a couple of dogs to socialize with, but only a couple.  She ran a fair amount.  It helped that I soaked her down a couple of times.

We went home via Congress.  I was hoping for some parking karma so we could stop and walk around, but it wasn't to be.  So we stopped for lunch at Opal Devine's.  Lucy got an ice cream to cool her off.

There was a package at the post office.  It had a couple of parts for the pistol build.  I installed them because there wasn't anything else to do.  I should have the rest of the parts on Tuesday.  I really want to shoot this one.

When we got home I decided to check out the apartment air conditioner.  It isn't working.  The fan in the outdoor part isn't working.  I spent some tie working on it with a multi-meter.  I think it's either the relay, or the motor start capacitor.  I'll call someone on Tuesday.  Of course working outside for any length of times results in being soaked in sweat.  So I took a shower when I got done.

After that it was reading and a zombie movie.

I'm watching Texas playing Notre Dame right now.  They are actually ahead.

Day 330

I woke up when the alarm went off this morning.  I played a little Minions and then got up.  After the pet stuff and breakfast we put the pets away (cats in the room, dog in the cage).  Lucy wasn't happy at al.

We drove to San Antonio for the gun show.  The ride down sucked.  There was a big traffic jam at San Marcos.  We were in it for probably half an hour.

The show itself was pretty good.  I saw some cool items.  I bought a hand stop, a hand guard, a pound of powder and some primers.  Ellen got some soap.  We spent several hours there and ate lunch there.

The drive back was much better than the ride down.  No delays at all, although there was a couple of times when traffic cam almost to a stop for a few seconds for no understandable reason.

We stopped at Cabela's so I could buy some bullets to go with the supplies I bought at the show.  After that we went home.  We got there about 6.

Of course Lucy was really glad to see us.  She got dinner immediately with a rice bone for dessert.  She even got 3 zukies in her Kong.  She spent quite a bit of time when we got back trying to make sure we still loved her.

The evening was watching TV.

Day 329

I woke up with the alarm today.  I surfed some and played a little Minions.  Then I got up and did the pet thing and had breakfast.  After that it was hours and hours of surfing and Minions.  I also did a little buying on Amazon.

I had to do something so I went to the garage and started cleaning some brass.  I also started up the air conditioner to see if it worked.  It seemed to be blowing cold air.  I cleaned three to four hundred cases.

We ate a late lunch, about 1:30 or 2.  Then we decided to get the mail and run the dog.  It started raining fairly hard just as we left the house.  The run up to the truck was a little damp.  There was a package waiting at the post office that had the parts I needed to complete my pistol build.  Yeah.

We stopped at HEB.  Both of us went in because it was cloudy and only in the 70's because of the rain.  After that we took Lucy to Circle C.  She liked the cooler weather and did 16 retrieves.

Cool is relative though.  It was 78 degrees and 90% humidity.  It felt like a steam bath whenever the sun showed through the clouds.

Before we went home we decided to have yogurt at the same place we did yesterday.  The place was packed with mothers and their rugrats.  The two kids working there moved us through quickly though.

On the way home the weather was weird.  It would be raining heavily, almost too hard to see.  Then we would drive 4 blocks and it wouldn't be raining at all.  We got home, and into the house, just before the rain hit our place.

I did a little more surfing and Minions before and after dinner.  Then I went outside to build the lower.  It was weird.  All of the usually hard operations went easily and all of the usually easy operation gave me problems.  Oh well.  I still have two peices left to complete the build.  They are supposed to be here Tuesday.

I didn't finish the build until after 10.  So it was a little surfing and now it's time for bed.

Day 328

It was the normal sleep half an hour past the alarm, play some Minions, get up, do the pet stuff, and have breakfast.  That takes us to about 9:30.

I didn't really have anything to do today until the bricks dried out.  So I surfed the rest of the morning away.  About 1 we left to have lunch.  On the way we stopped at the post office.

After lunch we went to the yogurt place on Slaughter.  It had a nice shaded area for us to eat with the dog.  Then we went to a grassy area by the strip mall and ran the dog.  She did 16 retrieves, which was pretty good considering the heat.  Then we went home.

I was going to glue the bricks, but the clouds looked ugly and Ellen said there was a 60% chance of rain.  The adhesive needs dry to cure.  The grips had come in the mail, so I installed them instead.  The rest of the afternoon and evening was surfing.

At 7 I wanted to see Kaepernick get plastered in the football game.  Unfortunately the stations showed Landry's losers instead.
