Day 569

Because we didn't shoot until 3:30 there was no incentive to get up early.  I wanted to be up by 9 though in order to see if I could retrieve my timer.  So I got up a little before 9 and did the pet stuff.  Then I went to the office.  Luckily someone had turned the timer in.

I went back to the trailer and had breakfast and did a little surfing.  Then we went to a pet store on Potranco to get some more high power doggy food.  The bag I bought in Austin wasn't going to last long enough.  We also did the "not going to be going near a good grocery store" provisioning at HEB.

When we got home it was some more surfing and lunch.  I could have eaten at the club, but I'm feeling guilty about the last two days and the fact that I won't be exercising today.

We left for the club about 1.  We turned in the practice key and went down vendor's row.  Most of the vendors had already cleared out.  Then we sat at the clubhouse for awhile just watching the world go by.  Ellen checked the scores and found out that I took AA 2 in the 20 ga.  Apparently that's worth 4 punches and maybe a medallion.  I guess as long as there is sub gauge I'll be able to get AA punches.

We went down to the course about 3.  I wanted plenty of time to get ready.  We did have plenty of time, they didn't start shooting until 3:45 or later.

The targets weren't as interesting as yesterday.  There were 5 or 6 stations that were all just 40+ yd crossers.  Some of the other stations were interesting though.  There were a couple of hold ups, but nothing as bad as yesterday.  Ellen shot OK and I shot better than yesterday.  I wish I could practice on that course for a day or two.  It would really help me get my shooting back up to par.  Even with the smoother flow we weren't done until about 6:45.  That meant we missed today's free food.  We just packed up and left.

I stopped and gassed up on the way home and also at the Chinese fast food place by the park.  It was OK and fairly quick.  It was 8 by the time we were finished eating.  I went out and started draining the tanks.  It took half an hour to drain the tanks, flush the hose, and put everything except the hose away.  Then I went and took a quick 20 minute shower before they closes the showers.

When I got back I put the hose away.  Then I put away the guns.  Everything fits better with the new double gun case, but it's still packed really tight.  While I was doing that Ellen was doing general cleanup and cleaning the mess Fletcher left in the shower.  He's slept with us now for two nights without peeing on the bed.  He's not allowed in the bedroom unspervised though.

I got done with everything about 9:30.  The rest of the evening was a little surfing and then bed.  I didn't hook up tonight and there's a lot of stuff to do tomorrow before we can leave.

Day 568

We got up a little after 8 to do the pet stuff and have breakfast.  Then it was surf until 10 and leave for the club.

We got to our station about 10:45 for a 11:00 start.  We soon discovered that they were way behind.  We finally started shooting a little after noon.

The targets were pretty difficult, but that was to be expected.  What wasn't was how crappy everything was run.  We had three stations on the course where at least 6 squads were backed up causing at least 20 minute waits.  We didn't get finished until 2:45.  They had B squads on every station, which really clogged things up.  It didn't help that a couple of the trappers were finding their job really challenging.

The weather was good most of the time, but it got sunny, humid, and hot for the last 45 minutes or so.

Ellen shot pretty well.  I shot well on a few stations, and shot like shit on the rest.  I even had my first 0 station in years.

When we got home I did my exercises.  I left my timer in the exercises room, but I didn't realize it until we got back from the club in the evening.  I'll have to see if it's still there tomorrow.

We had lunch and took showers.  Then it was back to the club.  It was 93 degrees and probably 90% humidity.  No wind.

We had dinner at the club.  It was pretty good.  They also had a silent auction.  I bought two things - a rechargeable flashlight and a neat pair of electronic earphones.  They were both at good prices.

After dinner Ellen went to Gebben's prayer meeting.  I surfed.

We watched part of the expert shooting competition, but it began to get windy and cold.  So we went to run the dog.  She did 25 really long retrieves.  She was having a really good time.  So good that I had to lift her into the truck.

There was a thunderstorm to the east of us.  We got to see quite a light show on the way home.

It's nice that it's cooled down to 70 right now.  Yesterday night sucked.

We were supposed to have a 2:00 start tomorrow.  They've rescheduled it for 3:30.

Day 567

We stayed in bed surfing until about 9 today.  Then we got up, did the pet stuff, and had breakfast.  There was a little time left for some more surfing before going to the club four our 11:00 start.  Fletcher was happy to get out of the shower stall.  He meowed many times during the night.

The weather was arm and humid, but luckily there was cloud cover most of the time.  I did get hot the few times the sun broke through.  We started on station 1, so at least we didn't have to do any extra walking.  We shot with a couple of ladies.  One only had a thumb on her right hand (no fingers).  She shot with a velcro glove that attached to velcro on the forearm of her A400.  She shot pretty well that way, but dropping targets were hard for her.

Ellen shot well on some stations and crappy on others.  I shot pretty well for being off so long.  I would have had a pretty good score if it wasn't for shooting 7 on so many stations and dropping pairs on two or three.  Ellen said I'm leading AA class with 10 shooters to go.

We ate at the Mexican roach coach after shooting.  It was good, but not as good as the other roach coach.  Then we went back to the trailer.  We did that because we need to take a shower then, because the showers will be closed by the time we get back from the dinner.

We surfed and took showers until about 4:30.  Then we went back to the club.  We surfed and talked with people.  The bar opened at 5, and the food was served at 5:30.  The food was really good.  I totally pigged out, both on sugar an alcohol.  That's the only time I plan on doing so this week.  I did feel really guilty for not exercising today.  I had time, I just forgot to.

After dinner we surfed and talked some more waiting until it was dark enough for the fireworks.  My phone actually ran out of battery.  That's the first time that's ever happened to me.  We ran Lucy while we waited.  There was a following wind and I was throwing it 70 yds.  She had a really good time.  I didn't count how many retrieves she did, but it was substantial.

The fireworks were worth the wait.  They fired off some really spectacular shells.  They were doing it really rapidly.  At times the burst from one shell would collide with the burst from another.

We went home after the fireworks, about 8:30.  Fletcher had trashed the shower.  He dumped out most of the litter and shit on the stuff he dumped out.  It took me quite awhile to clean it up.  After that it was surfing until bedtime.  Fletcher went back into the shower stall.

We're a little concerned.  There's no piss in the cat box, so we're not sure if Taiko is pissing or not.  If he is, where's he pissing?

Day 566

We slept n a little bit today because we didn't shoot until 2.  I didn't really feel like staying in bed, so it wasn't very long.

After pet stuff and breakfast there wasn't much to do.  We left for the club before 11.  We stopped on the way to get a new bath mat.  Fletcher has pissed all over the old one.  The new bath mat cost less than buying cleaner to clean the old one.

When we got to the club we went down vendor's row.  White Flyer was finally open.  That was great because I wanted one of their new t-shirts.  We also stopped and talked with Lonesome Charlie and his daughter for awhile.

Ellen wanted to practice a little so we got out the guns and shot about a box.  We didn't have very many extra shells.  Then we went down to the roach coaches for lunch.  It was a little expensive, but really good.  We finished early, so we waited for about half an hour on the course at our shooting station.

Ellen didn't shoot well on the first two stations, but did pretty good otherwise.  I shot OK for not shooting in a long time.  I'd have done better if I'd managed to concentrate on each bird.

After shooting we waited around for about an hour for the wine and finger food thing.  I had a few vegetables and a small glass of sangria.

We went home at about 5:30.  We went back through the development to avoid some of the traffic on 1604.  It was a good choice.  We stopped at HEB on the way for a couple of items.

I did my exercises when I got home even though it was 6:30.  After I ate Ellen announced that Fletcher had pissed on the comforter.  She took it to get washed.  I cleaned out the shower stall and put the small cat box from the basement in it.  Fletcher is in there now.  He doesn't like it.  Tomorrow I'll buy a catch at Lowe's so we can lock him out of the bedroom.

That pretty much filled up the evening.  The rest was surfing.

Day 565

We woke up at 7:30 to the sound of construction.  They were expanding some pavement at the end of our "street".  All of the engine noise and beep-beeps from the equipment made going back to sleep difficult.  I tried anyway.  I gave up and surfed instead.

We got up about 9 and did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  Then we surfed some more.  Eventually I got out the guns and we went to the club.  We walked down vendor's row, but there weren't too many places open.  Then we ran the dog by the shotgun storage.  After that it was time to get a key and shoot some practice.

There were 5 practice staions and they were all big boy targets.  I hit my share, but not nearly enough to do well in an event.  We talked with an English woman about her experiences with getting guns from Britain to America.  She said the customs people are pretty easy, but the airline people are a pain in the ass.

After that we went to the clubhouse and ate lunch.  I'd packed lunch because I didn't want to eat the high calorie stuff they had.  I'll have plenty of time to do that over the next week.  There's a couple of roach coaches by the practice field that we'll try tomorrow.  They seem to have some stuff I can eat.

After that I went looking for some lighter gun cases.  I saw a two gun case that looked interesting, even though it was $450.  So we drove back to the park and got my subguage guns.  We drove back and I tried them and they fit.  So I bought the case.  Unfortunately the choke tube cases wouldn't fit, so I went down to Briley to buy some that would.  Jason was there and we had a good talk.

After that we went back to the park.  On the way we stopped at the shopping center and got some cat litter.  The cats are starting to piss on the bath mat just like they did at home for awhile.  I meant to get some cat repellent, but I forgot.  We put the mat outside instead.

I did my exercises when we got home and then put my guns in their new case.  It works pretty well.  It's really heavy though.  The old cases went into the basement.  Luckily there was plenty of room.  Then I surfed until dinner.  After dinner it was more surfing.

Day 564

We slept in today because John and Patty were coming over and we knew they wouldn't be early.  We did get up about 9 and did the pet stuff breakfast.  After breakfast we took the dog to the dog park.  She did some socializing and I threw the bumper for her.  After that it was surfing until about noon when John and Patty got hear.

We talked for about an hour and then took them on a short walking tour of the park.  They said they wanted to see the club, so we took them over there.  We gave them a complete tour and also sat for awhile so they could watch some people practice.

After that we went to Rudy's for a late (3:00) lunch.  Then we went back to the park and talked for awhile more.  They left about 5:30.  I hope the traffic wasn't bad.

After they left I went and did my exercises.  Ellen came along.  After that it was more surfing and dinner.  After dinner I tried to set up the thermostat.  It doesn't seem to want to turn off at a set temperature.  I haven't been able to get it to work right yet.  I also cleaned out a bunch of old instructions in the instruction drawer.

The rest of the evening was surfing and TV.

Day 563

We're on the road again.  We got up with the alarm, did the pet stuff, and had breakfast.  No surfing or sleeping in.  As soon as breakfast was over we started the wash and started moving the last of the personal items to the trailer.  When I was finished with my items I started moving the guns.

I barely got them all in.  There's very little additional space under the bed.I'm glad some of them are making a one way trip.  As soon as I was finished with that it was time to hook up the trailer.  That went really smoothly.

There were a couple of glitches when we got to the gate.  I watched Ellen's directions instead of my mirrors.  She positioned me too far to the right.  I barely got the trailer through the gate and past the opener post.  When I got out to check things there was water leaking from the back left of the trailer.  That gave me something to worry about all the way to San Antonio.

The tire gauges worked well at first.  In fact, I think they saved our asses.  We got down around New Braunfels and two of the gauges alarmed for pressure greater than 90 psi.  I pulled off the freeway and checked with the hand gauge.  They were above 90.  I aired the down to 83.  The rest of the trip the signals for the different gauges would come and go.  That never happened when we went to Las Vegas.  I tried to test it with the signal booster, but I turned on the wrong switch.  I think the gauge batteries are low.  I have spares which I will put in.  Ellen ordered more when we got to the park.

Setting up at the park went smoothly.  Painting the hitch pin yellow was a good idea.  It allows me to see when the trailer starts to lift off the hitch plate.  I stop it there and the handle pulls easily.  Then I raise it a little more before pulling the truck away.

We seem to be lucky about the water.  I hooked it up and there hasn't been any sign of a leak.  The propane alarm went off though.  One of the burner controls got bumped.  It was barely on, but the alarm sensed it even though the door was open.

After a late lunch we went over to the club.  We signed up, bought some shells we didn't need, and bought some t-shirts we didn't need either.  Nothing was open, so we walked around a little and left.

On the way back we stopped at HEB for a couple of items.  I did my exercises before dinner.  The exercise room is cramped and warm, but adequate.  After dinner John and Patty called.  We talked on speaker phone for quite awhile.  They are driving down to see us tomorrow.  The rest of the evening was surfing.

One note.  There's a lot of road building going on.  They are completely redoing 1604 south of Culebra.  The construction makes getting to the park somewhat of a pain in the ass.  Getting on to 1604 from the club is now really easy.  There are two new stop lights to contend with on the parkway though.  The parkway now runs past Roft road.  That just seems weird.

Day 562

I ignored the alarm in preference for sleeping in (that won't happen tomorrow).  I woke up about 8:15 and did some surfing before getting up to do the pet stuff and have breakfast.  After breakfast there was a little more surfing before getting to work.

I went outside and used the compressor to put air in the trailer tires and the truck tires.  I wanted to do it in the morning while it was still cool.  When I went inside I decided to start casing up the guns.  I had planned on doing that tomorrow, good thing I didn't wait.  I took a lot more time than I thought it would.  I left them all in the guest bedroom.  I may move them into the trailer tonight.  I haven't decided yet.

All that took until about lunch.  After lunch and a little more surfing we took Lucy to Circle C.  She did 16 retrieves.  It was low 80's, but really sunny.  I stopped and fueled up the truck on the way back.

When we got back I decided to lube the trailer hitch catch.  I'm hoping that will take care of the unhooking difficulties.  While I was going that, the clip holding on the latch handle fell off again.  I decided to fix it for good (I couldn't find the clip anyway).  I used the vise, with a two foot pipe on the handle, to squeeze the end of the handle.  That gave me enough room on the pin to drill a hole and use a washer and clip to hold the handle on the pin.  Hopefully that's a permanent fix.

The hitch pin on the trailer was really rough and rusty.  So I used the Dremel and a steel brush to clean the rust off.  Then I spray painted it bright yellow.  I'm hoping that the color will allow me to see when the pin is off the latch.  That should make it easier to release.  Of course the paint isn't going to last very long.  If nothing else the pin is smoother now.

The rest of the afternoon was surfing.  I didn't do exercises and of course there's no mail.  It's after dinner now.  I think I will do exercises, because I'm not sure I'll be able to do them tomorrow.

Day 561

I only slept about a half hour past the alarm today.  But then I spent a significant time surfing.  We were up, pet stuff done, and breakfast over before 10 though.  I did a little surfing and then it was time for work.

I got out the 409 and the paper towels and cleaned the counters and toilets in both bathrooms.  Ellen did the dusting in the living room.  That pretty much finishes the cleaning except for the refrigerator.

It was cold today - low 60's.  So after lunch we went to the post office and Circle C.  The dog loved the weather and did 33 retrieves.  We also stopped at HEB for bananas.

When we got home I loaded up the truck with the stuff that will be riding in the bed.  I also moved some small items into the trailer along with all of the clothes that I'll be taking except underwear.  Ellen did the same thing.  Tomorrow we'll load the remaining stuff into the trailer.  I'll also fill up the truck and connect it to the trailer.

I was going to take the dog to the mailbox, but I discovered tat one of the kitchen chairs had a broken arm.  So I spent about an hour fixing it.  The fix was a real pain in the ass.

After dinner it was a little surfing and then watching a couple of movies.  HBO is free this weekend.

Friday, April 21, 2017

Day 560

I woke up with the alarm and decided to go back to sleep for about an hour.  Then it was some more time surfing.  Then it was pet stuff and breakfast.

After breakfast we decided to give the dog a dogicure and the cats caticures.  It went fairly well.  Then it was surfing, basically killing time, until lunch.  Then we went out to do errands  We stopped at Lowe's to recycle the light bulbs from the old yard light.  We also got some air fresheners to put out when we leave.  I had to buy some Stabil because I forgot to put some in the tank at home.  I put it in in the parking lot.

The next stop was the soccer field for Lucy to run.  It was 90, but she still did 14 long retrieves.  Then the post office.  The last stop was Tomlinson's to get a small bag of protein dog food and some cookies for the road.

When we got home we washed and waxed the car.  It was really too hot to do it, but I hadn't done it in the morning because I forgot to put the Stabil in yesterday.  Then the car went into the garage until November.  After we did that Ellen changed the satellite radio over to the truck.  I went to the garage and did my exercises.  Then I took the dog to the mailbox.

The evening was surfing and reading while Ellen watched chick flicks and fantasy shows.

Day 559

I woke up at 6:50 today and couldn't get back to sleep.  I dozed until the alarm went off and then surfed for awhile.  I didn't feel like staying in bed, so I got up, did the pet stuff, and had breakfast.

Side note: the weight loss is working.  I'm at 131.3, which is the lowest I've weighed in years.  The last two days have been a bitch though, hungry all the time.

After breakfast I took out all of the garbage in all of the cans and recycle.  I also emptied the cat box and had Ellen replace it with the one form the trailer.  All of the garbage we produce from now until Monday will have to go in a garbage sack on the back porch.

After the garbage was done we did cleaning.  Ellen worked in the kitchen while I cleaned the master bedroom and the master bath floor.  We are going to leave the final cleaning of the living room, kitchen, and master bath until Sunday.

When the cleaning was done there wasn't anything left to do.  So I surfed.  Ellen had a doctor's appointment at 2:45, so we left for it a little after 2.  Traffic was a standstill from the bridge until well past 30th (where we turned off).  I actually got off the Mopac the exit before and took surface streets - it was quicker.

Before we left I told Ellen we shouldn't bother to get there until 3:45.  I was right.  We sat waiting until 4:15 or so.  The doctor proclaimed her to be healing well.  Ordinarily he'd see her in 3 months, but we'll be gone.  We'll go there when we get back.

We left the doctor's at 4:45.  The drive back sucked.  The backup started on the 30th street entrance ramp.  Everything was stop and go until almost 360.  It took us half an hour to go that far.

We stopped at the post office and HEB on the way back.  When we got home I moved the garbage can to by the well house and did my exercises.

The evening was a little surfing and the gun shows.

Wednesday, April 19, 2017

Day 558

I slept for about half an hour after the alarm went off.  Then it was time to get up and do the pet stuff and have breakfast.  We were a little early, so I surfed awhile before loading up the car.  Then it was off to Capitol.

On the way I got a look at what they are starting to do where they will extend 45.  It's going to be fucked up for years.  They are also building a toll road along 130.  That's going to be fucked up for years, too.  Getting to Capitol in the future won't be fun.

When we got to Capitol they were setting up for a charity shoot tomorrow.  All of the target were pretty simple, not what I wanted as a tune up for the World English.  There were a couple of stations that we testy if shot true pair, so we spent extra time there.

As we were going back we discovered that they have a new 6 station super sporting course.  Many of those targets were big boy targets.  We shot 50 rounds each there.

The bottom line is that I'm not going to do good at the World English.  I'm too rusty.  I was continually misjudging targets and shooting in front.  On long crossers I'd stop the gun half the time because my mind was saying that I was too far in front (I wasn't).  Oh well.  It's going to be fun anyway.

When we were finished I got out the bumper.  Lucy wasn't interested at all.  It was sunn and in the mid 80's today.  By the time we got through shooting I think she was just too hot to run.

On the way home we stopped at the Thai place.  I had a craving for Pad Thai.  Then we stopped at the post office.  The last stops were HEB and Walgreen's.  I had two prescriptions to pick up there.

When we got home I took the paraphernalia to the trailer.  There was no reason to bring it back into the house.  Then I surfed until it was time to go to the mailbox and do exercises.

The rest of the evening was surfing and TV.

Tomorrow we'll do cleaning and maybe move a few more things into the trailer.  I'll be putting everything I can into the garbage can because after this we have to take all the garbage with us.

Tuesday, April 18, 2017

Day 557

I woke up by 8 this morning.  My intention was to mow the lawn in the morning.  Unfortunately the grass was too wet after yesterday's rain.  So after the pet stuff and breakfast I surfed for awhile.  It looked like it might rain again so I had to come up with something else to do.  I decided to clean the inside of the car.

As I cleaned the car the sun came out.  By the time I was finished and had lunch the grass was fairly dry.  So I got to work with the mower.  It took about two hours to mow everything.  As usual everything looks pretty good now that I'm done.

Ellen did some house cleaning while I was mowing.  She's done the vacuuming, so now it's dusting and scrubbing left to do.

We left a little after 2 to take the dog for a run.  She hasn't had one for two days.  We took her to Circle C.  She did 20 retrieves and had a good time.  Then we went to the shaved ice place.  I just didn't feel like driving up to the post office.

When we got home it was more surfing.  Pat sent an email.  There schedule doesn't match up well with ours, but I hope we can still get together.

I took the dog to the mailbox and did my exercises before dinner.  The bunny from yesterday wasn't at the side of the road, so maybe it survived.

After dinner it was TV and surfing.  Having the mowing done in two days means we can go shooting tomorrow if the weather is OK and the club is open.

Monday, April 17, 2017

Day 556

I was up before 9 after a little sleeping in and a little surfing.  Then it was pet stuff, breakfast, and a little more (not much) surfing.

Today is the first day of the last week before we leave.  Today was a "mowing" day.  I went out a little after 9 and got to work.  It took until a little after 1 to do all of the edging.  I would have started the mowing, but it started raining just as I was putting the edger away.  So I went inside and took a shower.  It was warm and really humid - I was soaked in sweat and covered with grass clippings.

After the shower it was time for lunch and a little surfing.  After awhile Lucy made it clear that it was time to go somewhere.  It had stopped raining, so that seemed a good idea.  There was a wreck at the end of 45, so we had to turn there instead of going on 1826.  We went up Escarpment and stopped at HEB.  By that time it was raining pretty good.  So to make it fun for Lucy we stopped at Tomlinson's for a treat.  We had to cash a check at Wells Fargo anyway.  After that it was the post office.

There was another check at the post office, so we went to the Wells Fargo at the Y.  We also left off some stuff at Goodwill.  Then it was home, still raining.

When we got home it was surfing until time to go to the mailbox.  On the way there Lucy pointed a deer.  When we were coming back she pointed a bush by the side of the road and wouldn't leave.  I looked inside and didn't see anything.  I told her to break and come along.  That's when she pulled out a baby bunny and killed it.  I tried to stop her, but she kepft biting it until it was mortally wounded.

After dinner Ellen watched some stupid fantasy and dancing shows.  Continuing the "time to get ready" theme I moved some stuff for the pantry out to the trailer along with some pet food.  Then I surfed and read.

Hopefully it will be dry enough to mow tomorrow.

Sunday, April 16, 2017

Day 555

Today was a slow start.  Between sleeping in and surfing we didn't get up until almost 10.  Then it was pet stuff, breakfast, and surfing.

I needed to get some more accomplished towards leaving, but I wasn't very motivated.  That kept me surfing until almost noon.  I decided to start by moving all the stuff from the study back into the trailer.  I separated out the stuff that is going to stay here and took the rest out to the trailer and put it away.  While I did that Ellen vacuumed the room and shredded some papers we didn't need anymore.

It was hot and humid today, and even hotter in the trailer.  I was sweating in there.  While I was there I went through the cabinets and the plastic containers to see it there was some stuff we didn't need to have.  There was.  I took a bunch of shooter towels and rags out of the upper cabinets.  I also took two plastic boxes out of the cabinets above the sofa.

By then I was hot and it was lunch time.  So I did my exercises and then went in for lunch.  After lunch I went through the two boxes I'd brought in.  I was able to put everything we needed, plus the extra printer ink, into one of the existing TV cabinet boxes.  In the process I spent quite a bit of time archiving files from the 12 or so SD cards and thumb drives.

One the boxes I emptied was the perfect size to hold all of the keys.  I've been wanting to replace the cardboard box we use for years, so that was a big win.  The other win was that there's more room in the TV cabinet, and a lot more room in the cabinets above the sofa.

It was 4:30 before I was done.  The evening was reading, surfing, and TV.  I'll start the mowing (actually the edging) tomorrow.  If I can get it done in 2 days we'll have a free day to practice shooting.

Saturday, April 15, 2017

Day 554

I turned off the alarm again today, but woke up a little after 8.  Then it was time for a little surfing.  After that it was the standard pet stuff and breakfast.

As soon as breakfast was over I went outside to poison the environment.  I made up 14 gallons of a Crossbow, Roundup, 2,4,D mix and sprayed it all over the gravel area.  I also spot sprayed some thistles that I missed earlier.  That took about 2 hours.  I didn't feel all that good when it was done.  Breathing that stuff can't be good.  I feel better now.

Of course I took a shower immediately after.  It felt good.  Then it was a little surfing and lunch.

After lunch we went out to get the mail.  Lucy did 27 retrieves at the school.  I also needed gas and a couple of things at HEB.  The last stop was the shaved ice place on Slaughter.  I wanted to go to it once before we left.

When we got home it was more surfing.  I went out to do my exercises and then took the dog to the mailbox.

After dinner it was reading and a movie.  Lucy is kind of stiff.

I was going to take tomorrow off, but I think I'll start doing some of the house clean up.  I might also move some stuff into the trailer.

Friday, April 14, 2017

Day 553

I woke up an hour after the alarm, but didn't get out of bed until a quarter to 10.  Then it was pet stuff and breakfast.

The only useful thing I did all day was complete copying data to the new SSD.  That took part of the morning.  The rest of the day was surfing.  I mean nothing useful got accomplished and we didn't leave the place.

About 4:30 Lola came over.  I paid her for looking after the place and we gave her some stuff that we're never going to use again - airbrush, portable fishing rod/reel, roller blades, and snorkeling gear.

Then I took the dog to the mailbox and did my exercises.

The evening was reading and surfing.

Day 552

It was another wake up about an hour after the alarm and then surf for another hour or more.  Then it was get up and do the pet stuff and have breakfast.

After breakfast I finished cleaning out the linen closet.  Most of the stuff was Ellen's so she had to help.  We ended up throwing away a lot of expired stuff.  One thing expired in 2008.  Besides that there wasn't much to do except surf.  Lucy really wanted to do something though and kept bugging me.  After about an hour I broke down and we left.

We took a bunch of stuff to Goodwill.  Then we went to the post office.  They are working on westbound 290 fixing the guardrails at the merge.  That had westbound traffic backed up for more than a mile, and it was moving really slow.  So we took Lucy to the soccer field where she had a lot of fun because it was cloudy and relatively cool.  Then we took the back way to HEB so I could get some grapes and bread.

We had lunch at the Italian place.  I had a chicken salad.  I need to get used to that stuff.  Then we took the dog to Tomlinson's for treats.  After that it was home.

I surfed until it was time to go to the mailbox.  When I got back I put in the cans and took the recycle can and put it by the well house.  Another small step in the leaving process.  Then I did my exercises before going back in for dinner.

The TV is hosed.  That was OK because the SSD I ordered came today.  I spent a large part of the evening transferring files from various backup disks to that drive.  I've still got some audio book files to go through.  The rest of the evening was just surfing.

Day 551

I got up about 8, but didn't get out of bed.  Instead it was an hour of surfing before pet stuff and breakfast.  I did make sure that Ellen called the doctor early.  I'm worried about her asshole bleeding.  Of course they didn't call back.

I had generated a short list of todo items for Ellen - a couple of phone calls and an email.  She got them done while I surfed and shot two squirrels that were raiding the feeders.  It was cloudy, so we took the dog with us when I went to get a haircut.  Ellen went to Best Buy while I got my haircut.  I was lucky.  When i walked in there was no one waiting.  When I left there were 3 or 4.

Ellen bought a mouse and then we went over to Sam's Club.  We just walked around and looked at things.  We didn't buy anything.  The next stop was the post office where there was a large amount of junk mail waiting for us.  Then it was a quick stop at HEB for milk.  The last stop was Circle C where Lucy did 23 retrieves.  She was really having a good time.

When we got home I decided I had to do something.  So I went out to the apartment and packed up some more stuff.  I wrapped up the dog bed and put it in the truck.  Then I wrapped up the shells and put them in the truck also.  I also did my exercises.

Over the last couple of days the DirecTV receiver has started to act screwy.  It would stop working and need to be reset.  This afternoon we tried to use it and it wouldn't work at all.  Ellen talked to them while I was in the apartment.  The bottom line is that they are going to send us a new one.  I'm glad it crapped out before we went on the road.

After packing up I took the dog to the mailbox.

After dinner we tried to use the DirecTV receiver.  We managed to get it to partially work.  Ellen spent the evening trying to watch shows that we've recorded but will lose.  It's funny.  The playback stops at varying intervals for a few seconds and then starts up again.  I gave up and have been reading and surfing.

Day 550

Ignored the alarm and woke up about 8:30.  Then it was surfing for awhile because there was no particular reason to get up.  When I did get up it was pet stuff, mix new dog food, start the wash, and have breakfast.  After that I took the recycle out and put out the garbage cans.

About that time the weather radio went off warning of a thunderstorm with large hail.  So I put the car in the garage.  I could hear thunder in the distance.  A little bit later it started to rain.  At time it rained hard with close lightning and thunder.  Other times it was just a light rain.  This continued for most of the day.  So, like good Texans, we didn't go anywhere.

Ellen did a bunch of pants shortening.  I think she did 1 for me and 3 for herself.

Instead I went out to the apartment and finished loading the Blackout.  Then I loaded 100 9mm because I felt like it.  When I was done with that I did my exercises and went in to eat lunch.  After lunch it was surfing until it was time to take the dog to the mailbox.

I wanted to go to Capitol today, but the rain screwed that up.  It will be mud city for the rest of the week.  Maybe next week.

After dinner I got bored and went out to load another 100 9mm.  I don't need it, but it was something to do.

The reset of the evening was surfing while Ellen watched chick flicks. I think she's watched at least 4 today.

Day 549

I woke up with the alarm, but went back to sleep for half an hour.  Then it was about an hour of surfing followed by getting up, pet stuff, and breakfast.  After a little more surfing we left to do errands a little before 10.

The first stop was Cabela's.  My intention was to get reloading supplies.  I got then, but I also got a lot more.  When I went to look at the gun case they had a P320 with an optic.  So I bought it.  That took a lot of time of course.  Then Ellen and I walked around just shopping.  We got a dog toy, pants for both of use, and a couple of shorts for Ellen.  All in all we spent about $300.  It was fun.  Lucy got to be with us in the store and do retrieves outside.  She really seemed to like the retrieves.

The next stop was for gas for the lawn mower.  Then we drove I35 and 290 to the post office.  Ellen had to mail the tax stuff off Certified.  We wanted to wash the dog next, but it was busy.  So we went to Dave's for lunch instead.  I ate a salad.  After lunch the dog wash was still busy, so we went to Costco for water.  When we went back the third time the person using it was just finishing up, so we waited.

After we finished the dog wash we went to HEB for some much needed groceries.  It had been raining off and on throughout the day.  Of course it started to rain hard just as we drove into the gate.  I waited until it was over to unload the truck.  Then I did my exercises.  It was too hot and muggy to do anything else in the apartment, so I went back to the house and got the dog for the walk to the mailbox.

After dinner I went out to do some reloading.  I got the cases primed.  I also set the powder measure and the seating die.  It was still hot and muggy in the apartment so I went back to the house and surfed while Ellen watched chick flicks.  By the end of the evening I was sick of listening to them.

Day 548

We woke up about 8:30 today.  We stayed in bed for quite awhile and surfed.  When I did get up I did the pet stuff, took out the garbage, got the paper, put away the clean clothes, and had breakfast.  After that I did more surfing.

About 11:00 I decided to do something interesting.  I sorted the brass that I'd cleaned yesterday and this morning.  Then I did my exercises.  After that it was time for lunch.

When lunch was finished we went out to do errands.  We sopped at Walgreen's for Ellen's pills.  Then I went to Academy for ome reloading supplies.  They didn't have any, but we both ended up buying some clothes.  We had a couple of other stops to make, but Ellen's ass was giving her problems so we went home.

When we got home I took the dog to the back to throw the bumper.  I thought she'd want to since she didn't do anything yesterday.  I was wrong.  She only did three grudging retrieves.  Then I went back out to the garage to reload.  I lubed the cases and sized/deprimed them.  Then I cleaned them up.  I couldn't do anything else because I don't have primers or bullets.  I'd forgotten what a pain in the ass reloading rifle is.

I went back in and surfed for reloading supplies.  No one has any bargains, so I might as well go to Cabela's.  I might do that tomorrow.

The time before dinner and after dinner was surfing and reading.

Day 547

We got up with the alarm because Dave was here.  He slept through up doing the pet stuff, then he came out.

We has breakfast.  Ellen fixed bacon and egg tortillas.  I had my normal breakfast.  We talked and read the newspaper for awhile because the Range wasn't open until 10.  I loaded up the stuff about 9:30 and we left.

When we got there there wasn't anything special going on.  QC10 didn't show up, at least in the morning.  Dave had a good time looking at all of their inventory.  We messed around for quite awhile looking at it because Ellen was having trouble.  She eventually decided to just watch so that she could have easy access to the can.

We shot the SBR both suppressed and unsuppressed.  Dave really liked shooting it.  We also shot the STI and PPQ while the suppressor was cooling off.  It got really hot.  We finished up about noon.

We drove over to Red's for lunch.  We managed to get a table just by the edge, so the view was pretty good.  We finished with lunch at just about the perfects time to take Dave to the airport.  On the way back we stopped at Restore to get some more of the cheap gloves.  Then we stopped at the post office on the way home.

For some reason I was really sleepy when I got home.  So I sat in the chair and had a nap.  I woke up about 6:30 and took the dog to the mailbox.  Ate way too much today - I'm a bad boy.  It will be back to normal tomorrow.

Dinner was left overs from yesterday.  We'll still have more for tomorrow.

The evening was surfing, reading, and TV.  I did go out to put stuff away and do my exercises.

Day 546

We got up at 7:45 when Dave called us.  He was stuck in Austin because he flight got cancelled.  We got up, did the pet stuff, had breakfast, and did a lot of hurried house cleaning.  Then we went to the airport and picked up Dave.

We took Dave to Zilker and made him walk around while we ran the dog.  Lucy got in a fair number of retrieves and a lot of socializing.  There were a lot of dogs there.  We finished about noon and went to the Park for lunch.  After that we went over to the yuppies grocery store to buy stuff for a bacon wrapped shrimp dinner.  The last stop was the post office.

Dave was really tired when we got home, so he took a two or three hour nap.  So did Ellen.  I surfed.  Dave got up about the same time I took the dog to the mailbox.

Ellen cooked a really nice dinner on the Traeger.  After dinner we talked a lot and I showed Dave some of our current guns.  He wants to shoot the 300 BLK tomorrow.

Apparently there was a big storm at the club today with 60 MPH winds.  They blew over several of the station houses and took some shingles off the roof of the house.  It also shut down the water at the club.  Of course Dave is all stressed out because he's not there.  He has a late flight tomorrow and won't get home until about 8 PM.

Day 545

We got up at 6:15, cleared out of the room, checked out, and had breakfast with part of the crew.  That made all of us late to get out there.  Everything got done more ore less on time anyway Although we were sweating whether or not the owner would get the machines loaded in time.  He wouldn't let us help.

We did get started on the warmups a little late because all of the ammo was on the course.  Mar has been getting more and more pissed at the owner.  Next year the shoot will be somewhere near Dallas.

The shoot went pretty well except for three guys that are club members that jumped stations and screwed up everything.  I kept score at the flurry.  It was fun and we made a lot of money.  They had a new automatic trapper controller.  All you had to do was push start and it threw all the birds.  Ellen and I managed to shoot the flurry 4 times.

The food was great - brisket, beans, potato salad and pie.  We didn't win anything in the raffle even though we had lots of tickets.  That was fine, there was only three or four prizes that we would have wanted.

We packed everything up and then we had to wait for the owner to come back from doing a target count.  This was an asshole move and was the last straw.  He'll never have the shoot again.

We had a good conversation with various members of the crew while we were waiting.  Marc was finally done with the owner and we all left.

The trip back was speedy and uneventful.  We stopped at Tractor Supply for bird seed, HEB for gas, and Sonic for dinner.

I've really blown my diet over the last 48 hours.  The exercising has been sketchy also.  It will be interesting to see what I weigh tomorrow.  Things will be back to normal then.

The evening was reading and surfing.  Ellen is catching up on all the weird shows she's had taped for the last three weeks.

Day 544

We met up with the crew for breakfast at 7.  We had a good time talking and we all got to the club a little later than planned.  There was no reason to hurry.  The guy running the place had nothing prepared.  He claimed that he hadn't been told if the shoot was Thursday or Friday.  Of course, as usual, he wouldn't let Dave and I go out and get things set up.

So we all did what we could.  We unpacked the trailer (the new one is really neat) and set up the four flurry machines that were in it.  We also made up the goody bags.  There wasn't much else we could do.

The guy running the place didn't go out with Dave to do the setup until mid afternoon.  That means that nothing was set up for the VIPs when they came.  We had them shoot on the skeet fields, but it was a far cry from what it should have been.  We did manage to get them down to the flurry machines for a little while, but not long.  Mark was really pissed.

When we got home we tok showers and then went to the Mexican restaurant.   I had a really good do it yourself taco salad.  They brought out all of the ingredients and you mixed it yourself.  I also had a couple of really good mojitos.

After dinner we went home, surfed for awhile, and went to bed.  We had to get up at 6:15 the next day.

Day 543

We got up about 9 and did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  We also started the wash.  Most of the morning was spent surfing while we waited for the wash to be done.  We ate lunch just before the wash was finished.

As soon as the wash was finished we loaded up the car and left for Kerrville.  The drive was speedy and uneventful.  There was a really strong headwind that didn't do the gas mileage any good.

When we got to Kerrville we went directly to Gibson's, that general store kind of place.  We couldn't spend a lot of time because there was limited shade in the parking lot.  We did spend about half and hour.  Ellen bought some scented soap.

After Gibson's we went to the river park.  Lucy had a great time swimming.  We also did a little walking through the park.  When we were done we went down the road a little to the pet store.  We bought some doggy treats and a doggy toy.  Lucy really likes the toy.

By then it was time to check into the hotel.  We went back there, checked in, and moved into the room.  Then we surfed a little before going to a Thai place for dinner.  The internet said it was good, and it was.  Best of all the parking lot was shady.

After dinner we surfed and read for a few hours and went to bed.

Day 542

I really didn't look at when I got up this morning.  It was probably before 9.  I did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  My original intention was to go to Red's, but I just didn't feel like it.  Instead I went out and filled up the bird feeders - the only useful thing I did all day.  I would have done more, but I honestly couldn't think of anything else to do.

I surfed until about 11:30 instead.  PSA had a smoking deal on a .308 upper, so I ordered one.  I'm having it sent to Hooch because I'm not sure that they'd ship it before we left.  Then I took the dog to Circle C.

I parked in the front lot and walked over to the bottom creek crossing.  I walked as fast as I could to raise my heart rate.  When I got there I let the dog swim.  The water wasn't high enough for her to do much swimming each retrieve, but she had fun.  They've really cleaned up that area.  Lots of the downed tree limbs are gone and all of the culverts have been cleaned out.

After that I walked really fast around the path and around the soccer field by the basketball court.  That gave me about 10 minutes of fast walking in addition to the other walking.  I figure that counted as an exercise session today, plus it gives my back another day off.

When we got to the court I threw 15 retrieves for Lucy.  She was having a great time.  After that it was the post office, gas station, and home.

When I got home I priced out what it would cost me to duplicate the upper that I ordered.  I couldn't do it for less than $200 more than what PSA charged.  I'm happy.

After that it was surfing, reading, and going to the mailbox.

After dinner it was more reading, a shower, and then going to pick up Ellen.

Day 541

The weather alarm woke me up at 6 to warn me that severe weather was possible.  It woke me up again to say that it was imminent.  I put on some clothes and put the car in the garage.  When I got back I noticed that I'd strained my back.  It hurt.

I did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  It started to blow and rain hard.  There was a lot of thunder and lightning and a power glitch.  It did so for about half an hour - 0.8 inches of rain.  Then it died down and started to clear up.

I spent the rest of the morning surfing with a sore back.  I'd planned on doing exercises today, but my back hurt so much that I couldn't touch my toes.

About 2 the clouds were gone and it had warmed up.  I went out and did a little job that I'd been forgetting to do.  I removed the nails that were sticking up in the deck and replaced them with screws.  The I read until it was time to feed the animals.

After dinner I read some more and watched some TV.  I'm getting really bored again.  I really need some sort of project to do.

Saturday, April 1, 2017

Day 540

I slept in until a little before 9.  Then it was just get up, no surfing.  I did the pet stuff and then had breakfast.  It was raining a little, so I didn't consider doing anything outside.  Instead I read and surfed the rest of the morning away.

After lunch I loaded Lucy in the car and went to Academy.  I've been wanting to go there for some time, but it's been too hot to leave Lucy in the car.  That was no problem today.  I got a couple of boxes of subsonic 300 BLK for the new suppressor.  The next stop was the post office, followed by HEB.  The last stop was Circle C.  Lucy did 26 long retrieves in the long grass by the front parking lot.  It took her a couple of retrieves to get the hang of finding the bumper in the grass.

When I got home I killed flies and then went out to do my exercises.  The flies got into one of the loaves of bread.  I'm not sure how.  I didn't like the bread anyway, so I threw it out.

I haven't mentioned it, but I have a long going war on with one particular squirrel.  He's very wary.  As soon as I start to open the back door he's gone.  This morning the same thing happened twice.  He was back this afternoon I tried a different approach.  I went out the front door and around the side of the house.  That's what I used to do.  He took no notice of me at all.  For once I made a good shot, right through the heart.  I think I'll fill up the bird feeders again now.

I decided to leave the bird feeders empty because it's supposed to rain some more.  Instead I spent the rest of the afternoon reading and surfing. I took the dog to the mailbox and then had dinner.  After dinner I watched TV and read at the same time.
