Day 1246

I woke up before 7 again today.  I turned over and went back to sleep until 9.  Last night was great.  It was the first night snce I got sunburned that my back didn't hurt.

It was cold today - it only got up to the low 50's.  So after pet stuff and breakfast I just surfed.

Devyn wasn't doing well this morning.  He was very disoriented, could barely walk, and didn't eat more than a couple of bites for breakfast.  I was really questioning whether or not we should put him down.  My opinion changed during the day.  By mid afternoon he was walking around a little and ate a little bit.  At dinner he ate some more.  In the evening he showed more of an appetite.

I spent the whole morning surfing.  I also did a little music editing.  I did my exercises and then had a late lunch based on this snak food thing I brought home from the shoot yesterday.

I spent a few minutes in the garage wiping the Kroil off the 422 and putting it back together.  It came out pretty good.  That was my sum total of accomplishments today.

After that I went back to the house for some more music editing and a little surfing.  That got really old, so I started watching TV.

Dinner was brisket that I brought home from the shoot.  After dinner was more TV.  Devyn sat in the chair with me for the entire evening.  It was almost normal behavior for him.  The couple of times that I got up he jumped onto the chair to be lifted up when I sat back down.  Maybe there's hope.

Day 1245

I woke up at 6:15.  I got up 15 minutes later when the alarm went off.  I did the pet stuff and then left for Hog Heaven.  I stopped on the way at the gas station for much needed coffee.

I got there at 7:20.  The kids had been there since 7 and had all of their stuff.  By the time I got there they were out of badges - but I did get a t-shirt.  After a second orientation (remember Thursday?) I finally managed to track down the lady who could tell me what station I was on.  I took my stuff out to the station and then went back and waited at the clubhouse.

Unfortunately there was nothing in the silent auction that I wanted to buy.  The live auction had a GSP puppy as an item.  I made sure I left before the auction, the temptation might have been too much.

They had trouble with their electronic scoring tablets, so the shoot started after 9:30.  It was supposed to start at 9.  It was the standard charity shoot.  The only thing of note was the weather.  It was supposed to be mid-70's.  Instead it was low 60's.  A strong wind came up about halfway through.  It was cold.  I was really glad I'd bought a rain jacket.  The poor kid with me had shorts and a t-shirt.

The kid was really nice.  He was very outgoing and did a good job.  He's a junior and is planning on going to the Air Force Academy.  The UT trap and skeet coach was shooting and was interested in him.  I told the kid to make sure he got the coach's number.  It's always good to have a plan B.

The shoot ended a little after noon.  I got lunch - it was a really good BBQ.  They had brisket, sausage, beans, and potato salad.  There were cupcakes for dessert.  I stopped at HEB on the way home to get paper plates and forks for the pot luck tomorrow.  I'll get a Costco cake in the morning.

When I got home I fed the cats.  Devyn ate well.  Then I did some surfing and edited some music.  At 5 I took the dog to the mailbox.  When I got back I fed everybody.  Devyn wouldn't eat anything.  He was also dragging his ass.  Finally, there was red stuff coming out of his ear and it stank bad.  Essentially he was in the same condition he was in when we first took him to emergency a month ago.

I called the vet.  They said to bring him in.  I got there before 6.  A little after 7 they put us in a room.  A little after 8 they took him away to work on him.  They came back about 9:15.  They cleaned his ear, agreed that the infection was back, gave me some antibiotics, and charged me $200.  I'm supposed to call them on Monday.

I stopped at Arby's for a sandwich and ice cream at the yuppie grocery store.  I also got the mail.  Devyn yelled al the way home.

When we got home I fed the cats and gave Lucy her Kong.  Devyn ate his dinner and some more.  He's also more active.  I guess it was worth it.

I didn't get home until 10.  I watched a little TV and then went to bed.

Day 1244

I woke up before 8 today, but dosed in bed until the vet called about 8:15.  The said that Devyn was ready to go home and that I could pick him up any time today.  I got up then and did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  After a very short surfing session I went out to the garage to work.

I started out by working on the work light that I bought at the estate sale.  It worked at the sale, but when I got it home the light was intermittent depending on how I adjusted it.  I tracked it down to either moving the head, or the joint next to the head.  I took the joint apart and with some messing around discovered that one of the three wires from the power supply was broken.  The insulation was holding it together, so sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.

I cut the wire and stripped the ends.  Then I got a piece of new wire and removed all of its insulation.  I put a piece of heat shrink on one of the ends of the old wire and soldered in the new wire.  Then I pulled the heat shrink over it.  It was tight quarters and it took me quite awhile to do this.  The result is a working light.

After that I tackled the 422.  I needed a .22 cartridge to disassemble it, so I put a shell in the Victory and shot it in the back yard.  I couldn't get the case to work as a disassembly tool, but a pair of pliers did the trick.  Once it was apart I used a brass brush to remove a lot of the rust.  Then I used Kroil to remove most of the rest.  There's still some spots on the slide, so I coated them with Kroil and will clean them on Sunday.  I also cleaned the bore.  It actually didn't take much work to get it squeaky clean.  Unfortunately the bore has scratches in it like someone had used a steel brush to clean it.

After that I did my exercises and went in for lunch.  I had just enough time to do that and then leave.  I wanted to get the cat before Friday rush hour started.  I stopped at CVS first to get some pain killing spray for my sunburned back.  It's very uncomfortable at night.

I picked up Devyn and put him in the carrier.  He's wearing a sort of reverse cone of shame.  He went nuts.  He yelled and scratched at the carrier all the way home.  When we got home I set up the guest bath for him and put him in.  He screamed for hours.  Eventually he quieted down.

A little after 4 I let him out.  He isn't any better than before the surgery.  You can tell that the world is still spinning.  In addition the cone of shame makes him really clumsy.  He kept walking all over the house like he'd never been there before.

Cooper hates him.  Every time the get close Cooper hisses and swipes at him.  I spent a lot of time watching the two of them to make sure nothing bad happened.

I took the dog to the mailbox.  Dinner was a HEB meal.  I'm really tired of surfing, so I spent the evening watching TV.  It made it easier  to watch Devyn, too.

I have to get up at 6:30 tomorrow.  I'm not looking forward to it.

Day 1243

I woke up about 7 and dozed in bed until a little before 8.  Cooper spent the whole night sleeping against me.  I think he's worried with both Ellen and Devon gone.  The vet called a little after 8.  Devon is doing alright, but his eyelid is drooping and there's a lot of drainage.  They are going to keep him another day.  I did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  I tried to cut Cooper's nails - that didn't go well.  I stopped when I cut one too short.

I spent all of yesterday stressing because I'd lost my knife.  It turns out I didn't.  I'd taken it out of my pants to use it the day before.  When I put it back, I put it in the wrong pants.  I found it this morning.  I'm very happy.  I'd searched the extra pants yesterday, but somehow I'd missed one pocket.  I almost missed it when I rechecked today.

There's an estate sale in Lakeway that I wanted to go to today, but the address wasn't available until 9.  So I looked at the other estate sales today but didn't find any others I was interested in.  Then I surfed until it was time to go.

I got to the estate sale 15 minutes early.  I was the first person in the door (there were only 2).  The drill press I wanted was there.  However, when I said I'd buy it they said it was already sold.  Apparently they'd been taking phone sales for days.  Assholes. I did buy some milling bits and a 2 axis vise.  After that I stopped at HEB for a salad for lunch and headed to Silencer shop to get the accessories I needed.

Ellen called.  Denney, she and the other old timers resigned from the board in protest of the way the board is giving the club to Dave.  Apparently they've got the county to order that our septic be removed.  Assholes.  Dola also called.  She wanted me to stop by.

Google was no help at all.  It's maps for the area didn't show streets, much less street names.  It's route had me turning the wrong way on 183.  I ended up screwing around for half an hour before I found the place.  After I got the accessories I ate the salad in the parking lot.  I'd bought a roll for dessert, but Lucy ate that while I was in the store.  I wasn't happy with her.

The drive back was uneventful.  I paid 30 cents to take the toll lane.  It only saved me a little time, but that was OK.  I stopped at the post office and picked up the Bronco arm rest I ordered from Ebay.  It's really nice, almost new.  I stopped at Dola's and we had a good talk.  She showed me their new truck and the trailer that they are going to travel in.  It's a neat fold up unit.

When I got home I did my exercises and then took a shower.  I had just enough time to feed the animals before it was time to go to Hog Heaven.

I allowed 30 minutes to get to Hog Heaven.  That would have been plenty except there was a quarter mile backup at the end of 1826.  Everyone was tying to turn left onto 150.  I got through there and thanks to some serious exceeding of the speed limit I made it to Hog Heaven at exactly 5:30.  They had just started the orientation.

It's good I went there.  They are keeping score on tablets and there was a little necessary training on that.  The whole thing took less than half an hour.

I was planning on stopping at the Salt Lick on the way back.  Instead I ended up at a brewery on 150 just after turning off RR 12.  I had a beer and a brisket sandwich from the roach coach there.  They were both good.

When I got home I did a little surfing and then watched TV.

Wednesday, March 27, 2019

Day 1242

I got up at 8, fed Cooper, and left for the vet.  The day started out badly.  When I put on my pants I found I had lost my Swiss knife.  I didn't have time to look for it.  I also found that Cooper had destroyed a shirt that I'd left on the floor last night.  Getting to the vet was a pain.  Traffic was backed up at Lacrosse for almost a mile.  It was also backed up from William Cannon to 290.  I managed to get to the vet on time in spite of that.

Apparently no one had told the surgeon that she was going to operate on Devon today.  Fortunately she had time to do it.  She read Devon's records and then gave me a rundown on what she'll do.  Unfortunately the surgery may not completely cure him.  Also side effects include loss of control over his left eyelid.  The estimate is for $2,500 or more and they will keep him at least until tomorrow.

I ate breakfast at the yuppie grocery store before I stopped at the post office.  Traffic got me again when I left.  Some ashhole rock truck had broken down at the light at the Y.  Traffic was backed up to before William Cannon.  Eventually I got home.

I thought my knife would most likely be in the truck.  It wasn't.  I looked al over the house.  Then I called Austin Java.  They put me on terminal hold.  So I drove over there.  They didn't have it.  I have to believe that I lost it at lunch and someone picked it up.

The vet called.  She said Devon came through the surgery fine.  His ear was filled with fluid and there was "a growth".  There both going to the lab.  They'll give me an update in the morning.

I did my exercises when I got home and then washed the truck.  Then I went in and had a ham sandwich for lunch.  After that I went out and waxed the truck.  I didn't wear a shirt.  That was a mistake.  My back is really sunburned tonight.

When I finished with the truck I went back inside and surfed for a little while.  Then I took the dog to the mailbox.  After that I surfed a little while and then had salmon and salad for dinner.

After dinner was TV.   I had left a cereal bowl on the TV table.  Cooper jumped on it, knocked it off the table, and broke it.  Today is the first day Cooper has been able to jump up on the bathroom and kitchen counters.  I've been kicking him off all day.

Between the knife, the destroyed shirt, sunburn, Cooper jumping, and the broken bowl this hasn't been a great day.  At least the truck is clean and Devon appears to be OK.

Day 1241

Cooper got me up about 7:30, but I managed to go back to sleep until about 8.  Then it was pet stuff and breakfast.  It was cold this morning - 51 degrees.  I didn't feel like going outside until it warmed up.  I surfed instead and did the wash.  I ended up surfing and reading until 11:30 when I went to the apartment to exercise.  Isaac called just before then to say he wanted to meet about 12:15.  I said that was fine.

After exercising I put the cats away and took Lucy with me in the truck.  I think I was a little late getting there (Austin Java), but oh well.

We had a good lunch and talked a lot about their business.  Apparently they are doing alright, but they're finding out it's work.  I didn't say so, but it's always work.  We ate and talked until about 1:30.

I went to Home Depot when I left to pick up a board for the deck and some light bulbs for the fan in the apartment living room.  Lucy scored big time.  She met three people with dog cookies in their aprons.  I also made a quick stop at HEB.  It had to be quick because by then it was over 80.

Cooper worried me this morning.  He acted hungry, but when I put his food down he didn't take a bite.  Instead he barfed some liquid on the cow hide.  After that he wouldn't eat anything.  He did spend a large part of the morning wrestling with Devon and chasing him around.  I figured I'd wait and see.

When we got home I put out lunch for both cats.  Cooper chowed down like nothing had happened.  Good - not another vet bill.  Then I went out and replaced the board in the deck.  It was hot and I was sweating pretty good by the time I was finished.  After that I surfed a little and then took the dog to the mailbox.

Dinner was half a sandwich from lunch and some crackers.  After dinner was more surfing, some music editing, and a little TV.

Monday, March 25, 2019

Day 1240

Cooper got me up at 7:50.  It's weird.  Some nights he sleeps with me, and some nights he doesn't.  Last night he didn't.  I was going to turn over and go back to sleep, but the vet called at 8.After that I decided to just get up.  After pet stuff and breakfast I did a little surfing.  Then I decided to spray the driveway.

I went out to the garage and put the chargers on the mower and sprayer batteries.  The sprayer battery was really low.  So I did my exercises and went back inside and surfed while it charged.  I ended up editing some music until lunch.  It was a ham sandwich again.  After that I went out to the garage to check the progress.  The sprayer battery was at 90%.

I decided to start mixing up the spray.  By the time I'd done that the battery was at 94%.  I figured that was good enough.  I hooked up the sprayer to the mower and started spraying.  I ended up using two tanks of spray.  That's one lousy job I'm glad to have done.

When I was finished I took a shower and washed the clothes I'd been wearing.  Isaac called.  He wants to meet for lunch tomorrow in Dripping Springs.  I gave him a list of places we eat there and told him to pick one.  Then it edited some more music until dinner time.  I still have 70 albums to listen to.

Dinner was a salad from HEB and some cheese.  After dinner it was more music.  Ellen had called to say Dan needed to move the Bronco next month.  I called him and told him to rent a space and send me the bill.  I'll also send him a cover for it.  We talked for 45 minutes.

After that I watched TV for a little bit and then did a little more surfing before bed.

Sunday, March 24, 2019

Day 1239

I got up at 8 today, did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  Then I did some surfing.  I only did a little bit, then it was time to acconplish something.

I tracked down the bottles of expensive tile cleaner and tile sealer that I'd bought last spring.  I used the cleaner to clean the master shower.  It did a really good job.  After rinsing it off I wiped it down with a towel.  That's all I could do right then because it had to be dry before applying the sealant.

I went back to surfing until just before lunch.  Then I went out and did my exercises.  Yesterday was hard, today was a lot easier.  I don't know why.  Then it was lunch time - a ham sandwich and crackers.

After lunch I took the dog to Circle C for a walk.  We walked halfway around the park.  A little before we got back to the car I found two bumpers that someone had left. I threw the first one in front of Lucy and she ignored it.  She turned around and I twirled the second one.  She came prancing back like she always does.  I threw the other about 20 feet from her, but she didn't even go to pick it up.  She was tired and a little hot.  I guess she's finished doing retrieves.

After the walk I stopped at HEB for milk and salad fixings.

When we got home the shower was dry.  It took about 40 minutes to seal it.  I had to spray a section, wait 5 minutes, and wipe it off.  Then do another section.  I put two coats on the floor, the seat, and the places we put bottles.  We'll see how it works tonight.

Lucy took off twice in the afternoon.  I'm sure she's eating dead stuff somewhere.  She wanted to go out a third time about 10, but I wouldn't let her.  This is beginning to be a pain in the ass.

Dinner was a HEB meal.  After dinner was TV.

Saturday, March 23, 2019

Day 1238

The cats didn't sleep with me last night.  Cooper came in about 6:30 talking about breakfast.  I turned over and went back to sleep.  He left.  A little later Devon came up to lay on the bed and Cooper followed.  I continued to sleep until almost 9.  When I got up it was pet stuff and breakfast.  Then it was surfing until about 11:30.

I locked up the cats and took Lucy with me to the post office.  There wasn't any mail.  I don't think they deliver to the boxes on Saturday.  I'm going to quit coming on Saturday.  Tomlinson's was having an event, so I took Lucy there.  It wasn't much - just a couple of dogs for adoption.  Lucy and I both got cookies.  I felt like a beer, so we went arouind the corner for lunch at Torchy's.

After lunch we went to Circle C.  We walked around the park.  It was nice to walk at a faster speed than Ellen will walk.  I was planning on getting milk after that, but I forgot.  There's always tomorrow.

When I got home it was more surfing.  I got bored quickly, so I quit and turned on the TV.  Actually I planned on taking a nap - and I did.  I woke up just in time to do my exercises.  It was unpleasant - I had a bad headache.  When I was done I took a couple of pills.  That helped a lot.

Dinner was a salad and some crackers.  I didn't feel like anything else.  After dinner was TV for the whole evening.

Lucy has been going out doing something.  I think it involves something dead on the property that she's eating.  She bought home a piece a while back.  Tonight she was gone for almost half an hour.  I was just about to go looking for her when she came home.

Friday, March 22, 2019

Day 1237

Cooper wouldn't let me sleep past 7:50 today.  I got up, did the pet stuff (including the cat box) and had breakfast.  I did a little surfing, but I'm tired of that.  I decided to deal with a couple of simple tasks.

I started by folding all of the clothes from the trailer.  There were 30 or so t-shirts between the two of us.  Then I took my shirts and coats to the trailer.  I rewashed the rain jacket because it still stunk.  I threw it in with some sweat shirts that hadn't been washed in a long time.

The vet called and I scheduled Devon for surgery next Wednesday at 9.  Hopefully that will fix him.  I really feel sorry for him.

After that I went out to the well house and got the labeler.  I made up labels for four cases that didn't have them.  Then I moved stuff from the old cases to the new ones.  Finally I took the 5 old cases to the apartment and put them in the attic.  I did my exercises before I went back to the house.

Lunch was a ham sandwich and crackers.  I needed more cereal, so I put the dog in the car and we went to Trader Joe's.  Unfortunately they didn't have the flavor I liked.  I bought three boxes of another flavor anyway.  I hope I'll like it.  On the way back I picked up the mail and put gas in the car.  I also stopped at the diet ice cream place.  The key lime flavor I had wasn't as good as the Heath bar flavor I had the other day.

When I got home I surfed until it ws time to take the dog to the mailbox.

Dinner was left over sausage and salad again.  After dinner was TV.  Right now I'm watching the Tar Heels.  They should be winning because they're playing a 16 seed.  Instead they're losing.

Thursday, March 21, 2019

Day 1236

We didn't get up until 8:30 today.  Devon doesn't need medication anymore.  After pet stuff and breakfast it was surfing.  We basically just sat around until it was 11 and time to take Ellen to the airport.  I drove the truck because it needs an oil change.

I left Ellen off at the airport and then went to the oil change place.  It was noon and they were busy.  I went to the hamburger place next door for lunch.  Then I took Lucy to their dog park.  She had a good time sniffing around.

They were actually pretty quick doing the work.  Tey said the brake fluid needed changing, so I had them do that.  It probably didn't really need it.

When I got back in the truck the tire monitor said the left rear tire only had 16 psi.  I got out and measured it.  It had 70.  There's a warning every time you start the truck, and the idiot light stays on.  There's no way to fix it.  I went to Lowe's and dinged around with it in the parking lot for awhile.  Nothing worked.  I gave up and went inside looking for some mildew carpet cleaner for the trailer.  They didn't have any.  I did get a spray bottle to replace the one Cooper bit holes in.

When I left Lowe's the light was still on.  It went off somewhere along the way to the post office.  I was very thankful.

When I got home I just surfed.  I really don't have anything to do for awhile.  It did seem like a waste of a sunny warm day.  I ddi do my exercises and took the dog to the mailbox.  My back still hurts, but not that much.

Dinner was leftover sausage and a salad.  After dinner I surfed and watched TV.

Wednesday, March 20, 2019

Day 1235

We got up at 8.  By 8:30 pet stuff and breakfast were done and we were taking Devon to the vet.  We dropped him off at the vet and then went to the donut shop on Brodie.  We all had donuts.  Lucy got a bacon one.  After that we went to Costco to buy some water.  They had a sale on the Samsung watch that Ellen wanted, so we bought one of those, too.

It was a nice sunny day, so I decided to walk around the area.  We walked over to the pet store to get some cat food.  Lucy got a small cookie.  Then we walked around the corner to the end of the shops.  We'd never been there before.  There's a nice tile shop there that we didn't know existed.  Ellen went in and said they have nice stuff.  Well have to remember them for next year.

After that we walked back to Costco.  We needed money so we drove to Wells Fargo.  We stopped at HEB on the way for a couple of things.  Then we went to Torchy's for lunch.  Actually I had lunch.  Ellen's asshole was giving her problems so she didn't havve anything.

The vet called while we were there and said Devon would be ready in an hour.  We killed some more time and then stopped at the post office before picking up Devon.  He wasn't feeling very well.  When we got home he climbed in his kitty cave and didn't come out for the rest of the day.

We surfed the rest of the afternoon away.  My back still hurts a little, so I'm giving it one more day off.

Ellen wanted to go to Longhorn for dinner.  It was great food as usual.  After dinner we came back home and watched TV.

All in all it was a good birthday.

Tuesday, March 19, 2019

Day 1234

We got up at 8:30, did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  We gave Devon his last medicine.  I didn't hurt as much as I did yesterday, but I'm taking it easy today to make sure I'm OK tomorrow.

After a little surfing I went out to the garage to work on the weather vane.  I took off the tape I'd put on for painting.  It worked well, but I'd missed a couple of small paces.  I sprayed them.  After that I attached the springs to the tailbone.  Then I bolted on the tail.  Finally I attached the bearing.  That finishes it.

I went inside after that for lunch - leftover meatloaf and potatoes.  Then I went out to the trailer.  It was time to track down the fan and closet leaks.  I had Ellen come out and stand under the fan while I got on the roof.  It turns out that the light I saw around the enclosure comes through the cover, so that's not the problem.  I couldn't see anything else that was a problem.  I put some caulk around it, but I'm not sure it will do any good.

We took all of the clothes out of the closet.  They were all musty.  The floor of the closet has obviously been very wet.  There were some towel on the floor that were damp, even though it hasn't rained in awhile.  Ellen took all of the clothes to the house to wash them.  I discovered that the floor of the closet outside wasn't sealed at all.  I put a lot of caulk on it.  Hopefully that will fix the problem.

After that I went back inside the house and surfed until it was time to take the dog to the mailbox.  I didn't do my exercises.

Dinner was smoked salmon.  After dinner we watched TV.

Monday, March 18, 2019

Day 1233

We got up at 8:30 today.  I had a bad night.  Sometime yesterday I hurt my back.  It hurt all night and kept waking me up.  I could hardly get up in the morning.  We did the pet stuff, had breakfast, and medicated Devon.

We've been arguing whether Devon should be spelt with an o or an i.  Ellen looked it up - one spelling is Devyn.  We both like that.  So that's what we'll use from now on.

I hurt so much I could hardly move.  There was no way I was digging holes or exercising today.  For some reason it hurt more to sit than to walk.  So we left for CVS so I could get some aspirin.  All the pills that we had were expired.  We stopped there and then went to the post office.  We stopped at Target next.  We didn't need anything, but I needed to walk, not sit.

They have totally remodeled and rearranged Target.  We had a good time walking through it looking at stuff.  The only thing we bought was a chocolate bunny.  We also stopped at Randall's for a few groceries.  I wanted Cajun, so we ate there.  It was great, as usual.  There was a diet ice cream shop next door.  I stopped there, it was really good.

I was still hurting when we got home, but it wasn't as bad.  I put on this pain patch we bought and it seemed to help.  So I went to the garage and put a second coat of paint on the weather vane top.  I was going to rework the pole support, but it turned out I didn't need to.  Yeah.

Ellen had let Lucy out and she'd disappeared again.  I found her in the front yard chewing on some very dead piece of some animal.  I took it away from her and took her to the mailbox.  I didn't walk all that fast.

Ellen fixed sausage and hash browns for dinner.  After dinner was TV and a movie.

Sunday, March 17, 2019

Day 1232

We didn't get up until almost 9.  I just didn't feel like getting up, and medicating Devon a little late didn't seem like a big deal.  After pet stuff and breakfast I did copied the three CD's I bought last week.  Then I went to the garage to work on the weather vane.

I installed the tailbone on the top piece.  That involved making a spring mount and then mounting the two springs.  Then I taped off the tailbone and painted the top piece.  I cleaned up all of the mess that had been made.  There was metal filings all over the bench and the floor.

I also tried to fix the Craftsman drill press.  I think the capacitor may be fried.  I unbolted it and wrote down all of the markings.  Then I went inside to try to find one.  Amazon has them, but only with slow boat from China shipping.  We'll be gone before they'd get here.  The only ones I could find elsewhere are really expensive.  I guess a fix will have to wait until next fall.

All of this took until after noon.  I went back inside and did a little music editing.  Lunch was a salad from HEB.  After lunch it was more editing until it was time to do my exercises.  Lucy went out with me when I went to the apartment.  I expected her to go back home, but she didn't.  I ended up having to search for her.  After about 15 minutes of walking around in the woods she showed up.  I think she was chasing deer.

After a little more editing and surfing I watched TV.  Dinner was some HEB meal that Ellen fixed - noodles, chicken, and beans.

For some reason my lower left back is giving me a lot of trouble.  I feel really old today.  I hope it's OK tomorrow because I shoiuld dig the hole for the pole then.

Day 1231

We got up at 8, did pet stuff and had breakfast.  We ddin't try to hurry, so we medicated Devon on time, 9.  Then we loaded up the car and went to the club.  We made good time driving there.  Unfortunately when we got there it was 53 degrees with a light wind.  That made it a little cold for shooting.

We joined three other people for the shoot.  The targets were good, with only a couple of really difficult stations.  I shot well considering I can't see and I've had very little practice.  Ellen didn't shoot very well at all.  She's really discouraged.  I think she really needs to go back and work on her basics.  She blames her eyes.

We had lunch there and left a little after noon.  We didn't go home - that's boring.  Instead we went to two estate sales near the 360 bridge.  I wanted to go to them yesterday, but the tire repair took care of that.  The first was really picked over - nothing left.  The second was picked over too, but I got a Dire Straits CD I didn't have and a torque screwdriver.

On the way home we stopped at the Park so I could have a Guinness.  We also had a quesadilla.  Then it was home.  We got there just before 5.  I took the dog to the mailbox.

Because of the park we didn't have dinner until 7.  It was meatloaf from yesterday that was cooked too late to eat yesterday.  It was really good.

Ellen's asshole was giving her trouble from the time we left the Park until after dinner.  I ddi some listening to music and also watched some TV.  The new headphones are wonderful.

Day 1230

We were up at 8:15 for pet stuff and breakfast followed by medicating Devon.  Then I went to the garage to work on the weather vane.

I put the second coat of paint on the pole.  Then I started making up the brace I decided needed to be added.  That involved a lot of cutting with a hacksaw.  Then I had to fit everything together and carefully mark where to drill holes.  It took quite awhile to get it all planned out.

I decided to use the drill press to drill the holes.  It was a good choice.  Unfortunately the Sears drill press I bought a few months ago turned out to be a piece of shit.  It was expensive.  I managed to drill three holes with it and then the bit jammed.  After I unjammed it the motor wouldn't work anymore.  Crap.  Fortunately I still had the old Harbor Freight press.  I used it to complete the drilling.  It jammed several times, but continued to work.

Part of the way through this process it was time to take Devon to the vet in Round Rock.  It was 35 miles one way.  I took the Loop 1 toll both ways, but cut across on Parmer to avoid the 45 toll.

The vet looked Devon over and decided that he probably had a polyp.  There are two possible procedures depending on what type of polyp it is.  He needs a CAT scan to determine that.  Unfortunately their machine is broken.  We'll have to wait a week to have one done at the south office.

When we got home I went out to finish the brace on the weather vane.  When I was finished I put the tools away, but I still need to clean up the mess made by the cutting and drilling.  Then I did my exercises.

Ellen went to Hog Heaven.  I went back inside and had a shower.  Dinner was a frozen meal.  Ellen called to say that the tire pressure alarm had gone off.  One of the tires has lost quite a bit of air.  I told her to drive home.  When she got there I pumped up the tire.  I had just enough time to do that before leaving for the board meeting.

The board meeting was pretty standard.  Oak wilt may be back.  We're going to send out letters to the people that might be affected.

When I got home it was TV for the rest of the night.

Day 1229

I got up at 8, did the pet stuff, and had breakfast.  Devon didn't eat anything.  He at least was walking around a little.  Ellen called the two specialist places.  One couldn't get him for two weeks.  The other can take him tomorrow, but they are in Round Rock.

I spent the entire morning, until 1, working on the music.  I've got everything organized now.  I'm now ready to review all of the music that I've placed in the archive.

We had sandwiches for lunch.  Then we went to get the mail.  We also stopped at Lowe's so I could get the stuff I needed for the pole - concrete, springs, and some reinforcing straps.  When we got home I went out to the garage and got to work.  I painted the pole and then measured and cut the mount.  It was in the 80's today and I was sweating.  I started to work on the reinforcing straps when I ran out of time.  It was 4:30 and time to do my exercises.

I took the dog to the mailbox after exercising.  Ellen fixed hamburgers for dinner.  After dinner I took a shower because I had to go to Costco to get my hearing aids adjusted.  I went there and got in immediately.  The lady turned the right one down a little.  It does sound better now.

When I got home I ripped the last 6 CD's in the apartment. Now it's time to review what I've done.  The goal is to have all of the CD's in Texas done before we leave.  We'll see.  That took the rest of the evening.

Day 1228

It was a get up at 8:15, do pet stuff and have breakfast, and medicate Devon day.  It was kind of cold in the morning, but warmed up nicely.  I called the metal guy.  He said to come pick up the pole at 3:30.

I did a little surfing and then hit the music project really hard.  I looked for music archives - SD cards, thumb drives, and hard drives.  I found a large archive on a SD card.  I found two others on hard drives.  Of course they didn't match.  I spent much of the day building a master archive.  In the process I identified at least 30 albums that I still need to listen to and select good tracks from.  I'm not sure I got them all yet.  I got so involved in the project that I forgot lunch.

At 3 I left for the metals place.  Ellen didn't come along because she had to go to Hog Heaven.  They did a great job on the pole - even primed it.  Unfortunately they got a small detail wrong.  I'll have to do some cutting on it.  After looking at it I wouild have had it designed slightly differently.  I'll probably end up adding some braces to reinforce it.  The whole thing only cost $125.

I got back about 4:30.  I had to use the 290 frontage road for awhile because some idiot had crashed on 290.  When I got home I did my exercises and then went in to feed everyone.  Devon had gotten himself stuck behind the washer.  I had to use the duster to push him out.  When I got him out he was in bad shape and could barely walk and wouldn't eat.

I ate dinner (last of the red beans and rice) and waited for Ellen to get home.  When she got home I had her help me put the pole in the garage.  It's heavy.  Then we packed up Devon and took him to Emergency.  We waited there 2 hours before they saw us.  Apparently his ear is filled with fluid and he needs to see a specialist.  So we paid them $135 and took him home.

Devon was slightly better when we got him home, but he still wouldn't eat.  I did a couple of more hours on the music and then went to bed.  There was a big windstorm last night that kept waking me up.  I didn't get a lot of rest.

As a side note - Cooper has taken to sleeping with Ellen every night.  He absolutely refuses to sleep with me.  I'm really disappointed.

Day 1227

We didn't gry up until 8:30 - blame daylight saving time.  We had the pet stuff, breakfast, and Devon's medivine done by 9 though.  I did a little surfing and then called the metal guy.  He didn't answer.  I surfed for an hour, but he didn't return my call.  So I decided to drive the truck over there.

Just like I thought he hadn't done anything.  He assured me that he would work on it today.  I left asking him to call hime when it was finished.  Guess what didn't happen the rest of the day.

I needed a haircut, so I stopped at SportClips.  She cut it a little short, but it will grow back.  Ellen saw the watch she was looking for at Best Buy.  She still hasn't decided which one she wants.  We stopped at Sam's club just to kill time.  Then it was the post office and home.

Lunch was leftover red beans and rice.  Then I listened to some more of the music that I recorded.  I'm almost finished.  I did my exercises and took the dog to the mailbox.

Dinner was an HEB meal - spaghetti and a salad.  After dinner was TV and then a movie.

Day 1226

It was daylight savings day, so when we got up at 8 it was really 9.  We did the pet stuff, medicated Devon, and then had breakfast.  That way we weren't too late on his medication.

After that it was a fairly long surfing session.  About 11 we went out.  I needed bananas and we were almost out of frozen chicken for Devon.  We stopped at HEB and Tolinson's.  It was lunch time by then, so we went to Waterloo again.  I wanted the breakfast I didn't get yesterday.

I was planning on walking in Circle C after that, but it was raining a little.  Also, Ellen's asshole was acting up again.  So we just went home.

When we got hoe I did a little more surfing.  I wanted to listen to more music that I discovered on the SD card.  That's when I discovered that Cooper had destroyed the cord to my headphones.  He had bitten it in a lot of places and bit it through in two.  I tried to repair it, but there wasn't enough left.  I spent some time looking for replacements on Amazon.

About 4:30 I went to the apartment and did my exercises.  I didn't want to have to feel guilty again today.

Luckily Ellen asked what I was doing.  It turns out she had an old pair of headphones she doesn't use anymore.   They are Bluetooth, so no wires.  They sound much better.  I started listening to the music just before dinner - Ellen fixed fish burgers, I added salad.

After dinner was more music until 8.  I still have more to listen to, but I was tired of it.  The rest of the evening was TV.

Saturday, March 9, 2019

Day 1225

We got up about 8:15, did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  We just finished breakfast in time to medicate Devon.  After that I decided to look at some music I had recorded and stored on a SD card.  There were about 10 albums that I didn't have in the main archive.  So I moved them to my "new music" directory.  I had to type in the album names and song names manually.

I finished that up about 11.  It was a sunny and warm day.  I wanted to walk, but I didn't want to go back to the park - that's boring.  So we put the dog in the truck and went to the Domain.  We walked around there for a couple of hours.  We wanted to eat, bu we couldn't find a place we wanted to eat at that allowed dogs.  So we drove home.

The sign on the toll lane was $2.35.  I knew that meant that traffic sucked, but I didn't take it.  I should have.  It was stop and go for 6 miles or so until we crossed the river.  Then it was really slow until we got past 360.

By that time I was really hungry.  The only place I could think of that would allow us to sit outside with the dog and drink beer was Waterloo.  We stopped at the dog bakery on Slaughter on the way and got Lucy a cookie for lunch.  Unfortunately that meant we got there 10 minutes after they quit serving breakfast.  We had a couple of other things that were really good.

After that we went to the ice cream shop next door.  Ellen decided to have a small ice cream instead of sherbet.  She's sick tonight.

We didn't get home until after 4.  We started watching Grand Tour episodes on Google.  We watched 3.  Dinner was salmon and crackers.

I feel really guilty.  I've missed two days of exercises.  Oh well.

After dinner was reading and some more TV.

Day 1224

We got up at 8 again.  By 8:30 the pet stuff was done and we were having breakfast.  At 9 Devon got his medicine.  He seems to have hit a plateau, not getting better or worse.  I'm afraid he'll never be back to his old self.

I called the metal place.  They still haven't made the pole.  He said he would have it done this afternoon.  I was planning on meeting with Lee, so I told him I'd pick it up on Monday.

I spent a little time listening to more of the music recordings.  Then we left to get the mail.  Afterwards we stopped for a couple of things at the HEB at the Y.  We decided to eat lunch at the Thai place  It was pretty good.  Then we went home.

I surfed until Lee called a little before 4.  He wanted to take separate cars because he had to do some errands later.  I had some trouble finding the place because Google maps decided to display the map upside down (south at the top).  I finally got there and we had a beer and a good conversation for an hour or more.

On the way home I stopped at hate chicken to bring home dinner.  After dinner Ellen sewed for awhile while I surfed.  Ten we watched a couple of episodes of this Netflix program.  It's one of those weird super power things with a bunch of time travel and crap thrown in.  So far it's entertaining, but I think I'll be bored in a few more episodes.

Day 1223

We were up at 8:15, did the pet stuff, had breakfast, and medicated Devon.  Ellen called the vet.  He said to come by for more antibiotics.  Apparently Devon will be on them for awhile longer.  Unfortunately he doesn't seem to be doing as well today as he was yesterday.

I called the metals guy and left a message.  He didn't call back.

It was a really nice day today - low 70's.  So we surfed until lunch to let it warm up.  After lunch (left over red beans and rice) we too Lucy to Circle C.  We walked around the park.  She had a good time sniffing everything.  Unfortunately Ellen's asshole was giving her trouble, so we ended up at the restrooms for awhile.

After that it was HEB for milk and bread.  You'd think it was going to snow.  I didn't feel like going to the post office, so we didn't.  When we got home it was a little surfing before Ellen left for the vet and Hog Heaven.  I went out to the apartment and did my exercises.  Then I surfed some more before taking the dog to the mailbox.

Dinner was a frozen diet meal and salad.  After dinner was TV.

Wednesday, March 6, 2019

Day 1222

We were up at 8:15 again to do pet stuff, breakfast, and medicate Devon.  It was much warmer today - all the way up to 50.  The vet had texted Ellen saying that it was time to bring Cooper and Lucy in for shots.  She called and got an appointment for 11.

I surfed and listened to the music recordings until 10:30.  Then we left for the vet.  When we got there they gave Cooper 2 shots and Lucy 1.  After that we went to Brothers in Arms.  I took I35 to 71.  It was clear all the way.  I was really surprised.

I picked up the pistons at Brothers in arms and then stopped at Harbor Freight on the way back to get a wire brush.  I'll need it for paint prep on the windmill pole.  Then next stop was the post office.  We didn't go yesterday.

On the way home we stopped at an estate sale.  We found several small items for the house and apartment.  The prices were a little high though.  I saw some stuff that I might go back on Sunday to see about buying at a discount.  The last stop was CVS so Ellen could pick up some drugs.

We didn't get home until about 3.  Ellen's asshole was giving her problems, so we hadn't had lunch.  I did my exercises and then had some cheese and crackers.  Ellen put some salmon on the Traeger to smoke and added some pork chops.  The pork chops took a long time, so we ate late.

The evening was TV and a little bit of reading.  I forgot to call the metal guy today, so I'll do that tomorrow morning.

Tuesday, March 5, 2019

Day 1221

We got up at 8:15, did the pet stuff, had breakfast, and medicated Devon.  I keep saying "did pet stuff" without defining it.  Ellen cleans the cat box.  I feed the animals.  This means a bowl of dog food for Lucy, two frozen chicken pucks for Devon, and a mixture of dry and wet kitten food for Cooper.  Lucy eats in the kitchen, Devon in the cat room, and Cooper in the guest bathroom.  It takes awhile to accomplish this.  In the mean time the cats are loudly making their impatience known.

It was cold and windy again today, low 40's.  We spent the day inside like good Texans.  I surfed and listened to some more of the recorded music.  Ellen surfed and sewed.

Lunch was leftovers.  Ellen left at 4 to go to Hog Heaven.  I went to the apartment to do my exercises and then took the dog to the mailbox.

Dinner was a HEB meal.

All in all it was a really uneventful and unproductive day.

Monday, March 4, 2019

Day 1220

We got up about 8:15 and hurried to get pet stuff, breakfast, and Devon medication done by 9.  I called the metal works guy.  He said the pole should be finished on Wednesday.  Then it was a short surfing session before we left on errands.  It was only 30 degrees, but at least there was no wind or rain.

The first stop was CVS so Ellen could get a prescription transferred.  Then we went to Costco for water and almonds.  The next atop was coffee (did I mention it was cold).  We went to Best Buy to look for a new phone recharger.  They have them for online delivery, but not in stock.  After a stop at the post office we went to HEB for a variety of groceries.  The last stop was tomlinson's for dog treats - Lucy did  mind trick on us.

When we got home I did a little more listening to music.  At 4:30 I did my exercises and then took the dog to the mialbox.  She was really anxious to go and had fun walking up there and back.

Dinner was a HEB dinner.  After dinner we watched the first three episodes of this Netflix show.  It's pretty good, but I may already be getting bored with it.

Three episodes was all we could take at one sitting.  So we watched TV and read for the rest of the evening.

Sunday, March 3, 2019

Day 1219

We were up at 8:15.  By 9 we had done pet stuff, had breakfast, and medicated Devon.  That was pretty much the end of anything useful today.  It was cold (44) and windy.  At times it rained a little.  So I spent most of the day surfing and Ellen spent most of it sewing.

Lunch was ham sandwiches and crackers.

About 3 I went out to turn on the heater in the well house.  There's water on the floor.  It worries me, but there isn't much I can do about it right now.  I didn't do my exercises.  I'm beginning to feel a little sick.  I spent the evening shivering even though the house is plenty warm.

I spent about 4 hours listening to music and selecting tracks for a new favorites list.  I still have a lot to go.

Ellen fixed red beans and rice with sausage for dinner.  It was good, but I didn't eat much because I don't feel good.  After dinner was music and surfing.

Devon is about the same as yesterday.  I guess we won't be seeing significant improvement every day.  I just hope he eventually recovers.  It's hard seeing him fall occasionally and not be able to jump up or down very well.  He even has me help him into the chairs  a lot.

Saturday, March 2, 2019

Day 1218

We got up at 8:15, did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  When Devon was finished eating we gave him his medication.  Then we did some surfing because the gun shop didn't open until 10.  We waited ntil a little before 10 and then drove to the shop.

It turned out that the piston they ordered didn't fit.  I decided to keep it and ordered the correct one.  We spent some time window shopping because they've doubled the size of the place.  Then we left for Bucee's.  It was 4 miles to the east in Bastrop.

We had a fun time walking through Bucee's.  We bought a carry bag for Patsy.  We also got lunch there.  We had to eat in the car though because they don't have any place inside to eat.  That was fine with Lucy.  She got bacon from me, ham from Ellen, and some diet crunchies from the trunk.

After we left Bucee's we went to "historical Bastrop".  On the way we stopped for a short while at a farmer's market.  The downtown itself is kind of nice.  It seemed that just about every 2 blocks there was an ornate old church.  There were also several blocks of old buildings filled with a few tourist shops and lots of bars and restaurants.  We'd just eaten, so we didn't stop.  After that we drove back to Austin.

On both the trip out and the one back everyone was ignoring the speed limit.  Most were going 10 over - that's 80.  It made for a quick trip.

We stopped at the pet store by Costco on the way home and bought a dozen cans of canned kitten food.  Devon won't eat the frozen chicken anymore, so both cats are now eating that food.  We didn't bother to stop at the post office because they don't seem to deliver to the boxes on Saturday.

When I got home I checked to see what size piston I needed for the 320.  It's different than the one I ordered for the PSA pistol, so I called up the shop and ordered one of those, too.

I surfed for a little while and then went to the apartment and did my exercises.  After that I took the dog to the mailbox.  My endurance is getting a little better.  I wasn't near as tired as I was when I started exercising.

Dinner was a ham sandwich.  After dinner was TV and surfing.

Friday, March 1, 2019

Day 1217

We woke up at 8, got up and did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  After a little surfing it was time to medicate Devon at 9.

The weather today was a little warmer and a lot dryer.  However, both of us lacked all motivation.  I surfed for awhile and then started to listen to the music I just recorded.  I'm listening to very track and selecting ones I'm going to put in a favorites playlist.  I might have got through 20%.  It took me most of the day.

Just before lunch I did my exercises.  Lunch was a few brisket scraps and crackers.  After lunch it was more music followed by a little surfing.  I took the dog to the mailbox.  She was really happy to go outside and do something.

Devon seems to be doing a little better, but it's a slight improvement.  Ellen said it could take more than two weeks for him to heal.  I really feel sorry for him.  Cooper is taking every opportunity to attack him.  Fortunately Devon can still hold his own.

Dinner was left over sausage.  It was kind of old, but tasted alright.  I added salad and a little bit of cheese.

After dinner was TV and reading.  I'm working through all of the magazines that piled up while Melissa and John were here.
