Day 1244

I woke up before 8 today, but dosed in bed until the vet called about 8:15.  The said that Devyn was ready to go home and that I could pick him up any time today.  I got up then and did the pet stuff and had breakfast.  After a very short surfing session I went out to the garage to work.

I started out by working on the work light that I bought at the estate sale.  It worked at the sale, but when I got it home the light was intermittent depending on how I adjusted it.  I tracked it down to either moving the head, or the joint next to the head.  I took the joint apart and with some messing around discovered that one of the three wires from the power supply was broken.  The insulation was holding it together, so sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.

I cut the wire and stripped the ends.  Then I got a piece of new wire and removed all of its insulation.  I put a piece of heat shrink on one of the ends of the old wire and soldered in the new wire.  Then I pulled the heat shrink over it.  It was tight quarters and it took me quite awhile to do this.  The result is a working light.

After that I tackled the 422.  I needed a .22 cartridge to disassemble it, so I put a shell in the Victory and shot it in the back yard.  I couldn't get the case to work as a disassembly tool, but a pair of pliers did the trick.  Once it was apart I used a brass brush to remove a lot of the rust.  Then I used Kroil to remove most of the rest.  There's still some spots on the slide, so I coated them with Kroil and will clean them on Sunday.  I also cleaned the bore.  It actually didn't take much work to get it squeaky clean.  Unfortunately the bore has scratches in it like someone had used a steel brush to clean it.

After that I did my exercises and went in for lunch.  I had just enough time to do that and then leave.  I wanted to get the cat before Friday rush hour started.  I stopped at CVS first to get some pain killing spray for my sunburned back.  It's very uncomfortable at night.

I picked up Devyn and put him in the carrier.  He's wearing a sort of reverse cone of shame.  He went nuts.  He yelled and scratched at the carrier all the way home.  When we got home I set up the guest bath for him and put him in.  He screamed for hours.  Eventually he quieted down.

A little after 4 I let him out.  He isn't any better than before the surgery.  You can tell that the world is still spinning.  In addition the cone of shame makes him really clumsy.  He kept walking all over the house like he'd never been there before.

Cooper hates him.  Every time the get close Cooper hisses and swipes at him.  I spent a lot of time watching the two of them to make sure nothing bad happened.

I took the dog to the mailbox.  Dinner was a HEB meal.  I'm really tired of surfing, so I spent the evening watching TV.  It made it easier  to watch Devyn, too.

I have to get up at 6:30 tomorrow.  I'm not looking forward to it.
