This was a traveling day. The first half of the trip (130 miles) was great. We had a little trouble with fueling up in Flagstaff, but other than that it was fine. BTW, there are plenty of places to get fuel all along the road from Flagstaff to Page. Through the whole thing we got 12.8 mpg.
Then things went to hell. The trip to Kanab was a lot of climbing, then going back down again. It was the same leaving Kanab until we got to about 40 miles from Cedar City. Then the shit hit the fan. We turned off if 89 to another highway (14?). This road sucked. It climbed from 6,000 to 9,600 in about 20 miles. The road was twisty with some up and down, but mainly up.
I knew we were in trouble when we started seeing snow on the side of the road. By the time we got to the top snow was covering the ground on both sides of the road. The worst was yet to come.
The road then starts to drop. There's over 10 miles of 6% - 8% downgrades with tight curves. I think it goes down about 4,000 feet. Some of the curves are marked 25 mph and they mean it. There were drop offs on the side of the road also. I used tow haul as much as I could to save the brakes, but it had a tendency to over rev the engine. We made it down, but that was the nastiest 10 miles I've ever driven with the trailer.
I'm never going on that road again.
The campground at Cedar City is nice, especially for a KOA. We unhooked and drove around the city. There's not much to see, but it was fun. The evening is surfing and watching about the goat fucker shooting in Texas.
