It was a long day. Up at 5:30, hook
up and go to the axle place. I had to back the trailer into a car
parking place next to a fence and a building. It took me 15 minutes.
Luckily it was too early for anyone else to be there. Went to
breakfast, came back at 8 when they opened. Dropped the trailer and
went back to sit in the shed with the cats for a while.
Axle
place called a little after noon - the trailer was ready. Returned
there after stopping for lunch, hooked up, and drove back to the club. Set up the trailer
again. By then I was really tired. Went inside, had a beer, and then a
long nap.
The
new axles were custom built by the Dexter factory to match the
trailer's VIN number. The tubing has thicker walls than the originals.
Apparently Grand Design changed the spec due to other people having the
same problem we did. The brakes are also slightly upgraded. No
alignment was required because the axles are a straight bolt on. The
mounting hardware supplied by the factory was also upgraded from the
original. Finally they did a complete grease job, "flushing out" all of
the shipping grease with a higher quality grease.
I think I'll have to reset the trailer brake gain, but I'm going to wait until the brakes have broken in a little.
I didn't wake up until 6:30. Ellen fixed frozen pizza for dinner. I watched a little TV and then went to bed early.
