I woke up at 7:30, got up and did the pet stuff and had breakfast. The hookup went OK except for a little problem getting the hitch to connect. I think it was just that we had the trailer a little too high.
The trip to San Antonio was fine. Mileage wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. We even found a pretty cheap place to fuel up. The trucks weren't bad either and the traffic was only bad for a short section of 1604.
I was pleased with myself and how the trip went until we were on1604 500 feet from the park entrance. That's when the right rear tire on the truck blew. It completely came apart. When it did it destroyed the inner fender liner and the back mud flap. It also half tore off the fender trim. It looks like it is usuable with some new attachments. The worse damage was a really bent lower fender well and a small crack in it.
I removed the destroyed rear mudflap so that there was clearance. I also snapped the fender trim back in place and taped it with Gorilla tape. Ellen call Good Sam. They said that they would send someone, due in half an hour.
A little while later a highway help truck showed up. He set up some cones and parked his lit truck in back of us. After an hour the tire guy called to say he couldn't change tires. Great. By then it was getting near rush hour and we couldn't stay where we were. I drove to the park, we checked in, and I parked the trailer.
The wheel had been a little beaten up in the blowout. Because the tire shredded itself driving on the rim tore up the wheel more. I hope it's salvageable.
Ellen called Good Sam again and got them to send someone else. I called the tire place and ordered four tires - Michelin, not Goodyear. Then we set up the Star Link and waited. It took a while for the new guys to show up. When they did they did a really quick and efficient job of changing the tire.
When they were done we went to a Chinese place down the road to get dinner. We stopped at HEB on the way back.
We did a little surfing when we got back. Ellen found out that the screen on the bedroom window was broken. I spent some time fixing it with a mending bar. Then we went to bed.
