Day 51

We got the new TV today. It's in a big box and it's very heavy. It's still in the box. If we're lucky, we'll get to it tomorrow.

The TV was scheduled to get here in the morning. It made it here just before noon. That gave Ellen time to put the finishing touches on the bathroom. I started the process of mounting the old TV in the master. I measured out the position of the mount on the wall.

I went into the attic to see how much work it was going to be to install the antenna wire. Because of the pitch of the roof, it isn't possible to drill down through the header to run a cable. I settled for an alternative. I'll run the cable inside the wall up to the ceiling. Then I'll run it out of the wall and up through the ceiling. I'll cover the cable with a cable access plate. It will look a little funny, but it's the only alternative that I can think of.

With that worked out I started cutting holes for the cabling from the equipment to the TV. I got them done and ran the fish wire down from the top hole. It stopped 3 inches short of the bottom hole. The dumbshits that built the house had put a 2x4 across the studs, at an angle, about 6 inches from the floor. Who knows why.

Suddenly a 10 minute job became a major effort. I cut a hole above the 2x4 and drilled a 1" hole through it.

Then the TV came, so we went off to Fry's to buy all of the various cables I was going to need. Unfortunately they were out of long A/V cables. I made do with a pair of audio cables.

While were were out we also got the mail, stopped by the credit union to apply for a loan, ate a very late lunch, and did some grocery shopping.

When we got back I started to pull the cables. This was made very difficult by the need to feed each one through that 1" hole in the 2x4. I had to split all of the A/V cables and pull each wire through the hole separately. I think it took about 3 hours to do it all.

Finally I connected all of the cables to the equipment in the cabinet. Everything is ready to go when we move the TV. I'll need to pull the antenna cable first. I'll do that tomorrow morning. I'm not looking forward to it.
