We got up at 7 again and were on the road by 8:10. The first 60 miles were just like the road getting there. Then we turned north on another highway and things deteriorated.
The road was rough and hilly. There was continual ups and downs. There were also several construction zones, including one that caused us to wait for 15 minutes or so.
I thought things would get better when we got to I90. Not so. We turned west into a strong headwind. We got 7.9 MPG for the last 150 miles. Crap.
There were two bright spots. We gained an hour by crossing into Mountain Time. Also, we stopped for about 20 minutes at Wall Drug. That's one of those places we've heard of for years. It was a magnificent tourist trap. Nothing but lots of tourist junk.
The park we are staying at is outside of Rapid City. It's OK, but right next to the freeway and noisy. As we set up it started to rain. That's the only time there was even clouds in the sky all day.
We got everything set up and did the laundry. After that we went into town. We walked around a little and went into several shops. We ate at a bar/restaurant that had fantastic gumbo and root beer. On the way home we stopped at a grocery store and got some food.
Ellen has the shits. She had them at the store and after we got home. The evening was surfing and TV.
