Day 1986

We got up at 7:30, did the pet stuff, had breakfast, hooked up the trailer, and hit the road.  There was quite a wind, but luckily it was coming from the south.  That allowed us to make pretty good mileage - a little over 10.

I was watching the soot level carefully.  I've been worried about them since we got the CEL.  They went up a little it at first, and then went down.  I was a little confused.  After about 200 miles the truck went into regen.  It started at 35% and immediately went up to 96%.  Then it started going down, about 1% every half mile.  The regen stopped at 33%, but a short time later the soot level went to 0.  It climbed up about the way it always does for the rest of the trip.

All of this makes me really happy.  It means that the truck is still capable of cleaning itself out.  I'll keep a close eye on it for the rest of the trip.  The process does burn a lot of fuel though.  I think it cut the mpg by about 1 over 200 miles.

We got to Cheyenne a little after 1, due to the change in time zones.  We set up with a very cold wind blowing.  I put on jeans as soon as we were set up.  Then we went into town.  It's about 5 miles away.  We went to the old down town.  There's a lot of cool buildings.  We also went to the state capitol.  It's an impressive building.

On the way back we stopped for some groceries.  When we got home the wind was blowing hard enough to shake the trailer.  We watched TV.  Later it started to rain pretty heavily.  The wind's still blowing a little and it's 48 degrees.  It's supposed to get down to 29 tonight and snow.  Goody.

Dinner was chili dogs.  After dinner it was TV and surfing.  It's raining pretty hard.  If it turns to snow there could be a lot of it.  Luckily tomorrow is a rest day.  We don't have to go anywhere.
