We got up about 7:30. After pet stuff and breakfast I did a little surfing. Then I loaded up the hunting stuff, Ellen, and the dog and went to Thorny's for a 3 day license. I also stopped at the hardware store for some screws.
We met Dan on the way to the Sportsman's Access. He said he'd meet us there with his dogs. Some guy and his 3 dogs were already hunting there. We walked the whole place and saw nothing. Lucy was hunting pretty well, probably because Sugar was there. We met the hunter as we got back to the truck. Apparently he shot a bird that we scared up.
We went back to the trailer for lunch - leftover Chinese. I used the screws I bought to attach a bubble level to the Directv dish. I broke a drill bit when I was doing it - another trip to the hardware store.
After lunch we went back to Dan's. He wanted to take us up Eagle Creek. We drove to the campground and walked up a road that lead to the top. It was a long, fairly steep, climb. It was a lot better than climbing the hills though.
We didn't see or hear a bird, even though both Lucy and Sugar were hunting hard. Lucy was amazing. When we got to the top there was lots of perfect grouse habitat - only no birds.
Dan walked over a ridge and back to the cars. We took the road down. Lucy hunted hard the whole way. We waited 20 minutes or so at the truck for Dan. He said he'd seen one bird, but didn't have a shot at it.
After dinner and showers we went back to Dan's for more TV and conversation.
