We got up at 7, hooked up, and left by 7:45. I did all sorts of things wrong hooking up. I got the wire caught in the hitch so it wouldn't latch. I dropped the front leg too low and got it stuck so I had to back the trailer back up on blocks. I raised the legs instead of lowering them - I thought I'd broken the mechanism. Finally, I locked myself out of the truck while it was running.
Fortunately the trip went a lot better. The road was really rough in places, which sucked. It rises 2 - 3 thousand feet and then goes back down at least three times, but the truck and trailer ran like a top. That's a win in my book. Gas mileage was amazingly good considering. It was probably 10 - 11 mpg, maybe a little more.
We got to the park really early, before 2. We unhooked and took the dog for a hike along the creek that borders the park. Unfortunately it isn't deep enough to swim in. Then we left her in the trailer while we explored the nearby town.
The town, Camp Verde, was having a yearly celebration. It was like a small scale fair with food and trinket vendors and some carnival rides. We walked around it, but didn't buy anything.
After that we went to the visitor center and got some brochures. The next stop was the Indian casino one mile away. It was a nice place, but didn't have any games we wanted to play. The last stops were a grocery store for milk and bananas and a Walgreen's for pills for Ellen.
When we got home we had dinner. The park doesn't have cable. There are plenty of on air channels, but not the one with Sunday night football. The rest of the channels have crap.
The park wi-fi doesn't even show up on our machines. Fortunately the Verizon works well. So the evening was surfing.
