We didn't get up until 8:45. It was 24 degrees and there had been an ice storm overnight. Everything had a coating of ice. We did the pet stuff and had breakfast. Then we surfed and listened to the traffic problems on the TV.
About 10 I went to the apartment to ask John if he wanted to build his rifle. He said yes. I got out the parts and tools and got started. I don't know if John had fun, I didn't. John wouldn't listen to the DVD, or what I was telling him. That meant everything went very slowly. By 1:30 we still hadn't put on the buffer tube and assorted parts.
After lunch we finished the lower. Then I put away the lower tools and got up the stuff for the upper. I discovered that the rail on the handguard was out of spec. It was too big. That meant that the scope mounts I had purchased wouldn't fit. I looked through everything I had, but none of my appropriate mounts had 1" rings.
About that time the Medicare insurance people called. It took until after 4:30 to make a decision on options and get enrolled. Much of the time was spent in a recorded conversation where I continually repeated the same info and said yes to the same questions confirming I wanted to buy the insurance.
When that ordeal was done I went back out to the apartment and finished as much of the rifle as we could. John couldn't work the mag release very well, so I took the rifle back to the house and replaced it with an extended one. Then I gave John a talk about operating the rifle and cleaning it.
We had stew for dinner. It had been cooking all day. Then we watched a car auction for hours.
