Day 1276

We got up at 8 today, did the pet stuff, and had breakfast.  Then we did the wash.  When it was done we drove to the Lexington.  We had to park 3 blocks away because there was construction at the normal parking lot.

The ship was fantastic.  There were 5 separate tours that went through different areas of the ship.  We saw the flight deck, bridge, engine room, crew's quarters, mess, damage control, fo'c'sle, medical area, and a lot more.  There were interesting exhibits everywhere covering the ships service in WWII and after.  Some of the models on display were fantastic.

There were also a lot of exhibits on other Naval activities like a hall of medal of honor recipients, the Texas navy (before it was a state), and rooms containing the history of other WWII ships.  Everything was in compartments below decks.

They had a nice cafeteria where we ate lunch.  Ellen got very tired going up and down the steep narrow stairs.  I don't know what it took to learn your way around the ship.  Once your inside it's impossible to figure out where you are.

It was really interesting to look at all of the equipment.  I took over 100 pictures of everything.  We spent the rest of the day there, leaving at 5 when it closed.

There was a little traffic backup on the freeway on the way home, but it wasn't as bad as Austin and only lasted a couple of miles.

When we got home we fed the pets.  Lee called and said he was running late and wouldn't be able to have dinner with us.  So we went to the place on Padre island.  It was OK, but not great.  The food was a little expensive and there wasn't a lot of it.  The building is on the water and the view was nice, but limited because it was really hazy.

After dinner we drove around the built up part of the island a little.  We stopped at a CVS and got Ellen's drugs.  We also got her a potion for her cold.  When we got home it was trip planning, surfing, and some TV.  The TV her sucks.  There's lots of channels, but half of them don't have sound.
