We got up about 8:30 and did the pet stuff. The cats didn't. Lucy couldn't stand up. When we put a bowl of food in front of her she couldn't figure out how to eat it. It was time. Ellen called the vet and made an appointment for 10:30. We just sat around and moped until it was time to leave. Neither of us wanted to eat.
We got to the vet on time. There was a short wait and then they let us into one of the rooms. I carried Lucy because she couldn't walk. There was a pad on the floor for Lucy to lay on. She was really nrevous at first. I think she had some sort of stroke and really didn't understand what was happening. She got a lot of petting from the two of us while we waited. That seemed to calm her down.
They took Lucy briefly to weigh her. She weighed about 8 pounds less than her fighting weight of 58. They brought her back and a little later the vet came in. By then Lucy was pretty relaxed. The vet explained the procedure - two shots of anesthesia. The first puts her almost asleep. The second stops her heart. The vet administered the shots and Lucy was gone. We're having Lucy cremated. I'll spread her ashes by the quail tree at the Richland Sportsman's access.
I'd done a lot of grieving yesterday evening. I also spent a restless night thinking about what was going to happen today. I did some crying in the morning and on the way to the vet. I could barely speak at the vet. The only mitigation was that Lucy was so far gone that she really needed to be put down ASAP. There was a sense of numbness mixed with relief when it was over. I don't know how I'm going to live without her. At the same time I'm pretty sure I don't want another dog.
We left and went to Home Depot to look for some pipe insulation. We found it. It was something to do to take our minds off Lucy. We stopped at Tomlinson's on the way home. They asked where Lucy was and we told them. The lady there was sniffling. I asked if they had somewhere we could donate Lucy's stuff. They said they did. It will be a while before I can bring myself to collect it.
When we got home we went back to work on the apartment. I loosened the next panel. That was hard because I had to balance the ladder very close to the wall because of the AC. I asked Ellen to hold it. When I was getting down she let go and I fell backwards over the AC. I banged up my elbow pretty well.
I removed a bunch of insulation. I'm pretty sure the leak is in the pipe behind the girder. I put up some more note paper to confirm that. Then we went into the house and hit the internet looking for plumbing stuff. After locating what we could we went shopping. We found pex pipe, a pipe cutter, and elbows at ACE. We found large size pipe insulation at Home Depot. There wasn't anything at Lowe's. We still need connectors and a pex cutter.
We also stopped at IHOP for a meal. It was the first today, at about 3:00. I wasn't really hungry. The trailer license plate was at the post office. The temporary expires in 5 days.
When we got home it was too dark to see the results of the leak test. There was a replacement rug at the gate. We unwrapped it and put it in the apartment. It looks nice.
I looked at some YouTube videos on the connectors. There's a couple of tricks to using them that I needed to know. I also found out that the couplers I was going to buy wouldn't work. We'll be able to get the right ones tomorrow. If the leak is where I think it is we should be able to fix it tomorrow.
The rest of the evening was other YouTube videos.
I miss Lucy.
