It's oficially a month since we left Salem. We've hunted. traveled to Texas, weathered a blowout and got the trailer in to be fixed, done a bunch of doctoring stuff, dealt with the consequences of Ellen's lost keys, and got a start on taming the lawn. And don't forget some power shopping both online and in stores. It's been a full month.
It was raining hard in the morning today. So I backed the truck into the garage and did a complete cleanup/lubricate of the trailer hitch. I took the top off of it and looked it over carefully. There doesn't seem to be any mechanical reason for it refusing to release. It's obvious though that if there's any front or back pressure on the pin it's going to be hard to release.
After that it was raining too hard to fix the well house door, so I glued the horn back on the cow skull. Together with the flamingos Ellen repainted a couple of days ago that fixes up the front yard decorations. I then spent a little time cleaning up and putting stuff away. Now I have a little space to work in.
The battery charger was showing an error this morning, so I restarted it. After a few hours it was showing it again. I tried to start the tractor and the battery was dead. I'm trying the other charger tonight. If that doesn't work it's going to be new battery time.
By that time the rain had abated, so I put another cable on the well house door to try to make it fit. The cable went in fine, but it didn't fix the problem. I decided it was time for a belt sander. I also cleaned up all the dirt the ants had piled on the inside of the building. I thought the poison I put down yesterday had killed them all, but when I swept everything up they started coming out of the wall. So I put down more poison.
After lunch I loaded Ellen's old office chair and a bunch of other stuff into the truck and took it to Goodwill. At first the key worked fine in the ignition, but as we went different places it started to get hard to work again.
After that we went to Home Depot and got a belt sander. Lucy didn't score any dog cookies, but she did get to eat some popcorn that people had spilled on the floor. We also stopped at Lowe's just to look at their Christmas decorations. We didn't see anything interesting.
When we got home I used the belt sander and a chisel to remove enough wood from the door to make it fit. The door's crooked (that's how it was made), but at least now it shuts.
When I came back inside Ellen was watching a movie on the chick flick channel. Crap. Maybe I can watch something more interesting later.
