Day 509

Boy did I make up for the last few days.  The phone woke me up at 6 - a stupid text message from an app.  I went back to sleep.  The alarm woke me up in the middle of a pleasant dream (I don't remember what).  I got back at it by turning over and going back to sleep until about 9:30.  Then I surfed until after 10.  By the time I got up, did pet stuff, took out the recycle and put out the cans, and had breakfast it was after 11.  I like being retired.

About 1 I convinced Ellen to go with me to The Range.  We took the two 2011's and the LCP.  The range is nice and not too expensive.  They gave us two silhouette targets.  They had the right outlines, but instead of rings they had one big ring in the center and a 1.5 inch blue dot over the heart.  The rest of the target was labelled "need training".  The blue dot was marked "don't need training".

I set the target at 3.5 yards and let Ellen shoot first.  The completely blew away the blue dot.  The RO was behind us and when I turned around he was smiling.  This was the first time I shot my 2011.  I like it, but it shoots a little low for me.  I also put a few rounds through the LCP.  It's a nice little gun, and doesn't recoil as much as I thought it would.

We saw a couple of crazy things.  One guy was shooting steel core .223's.  They mad huge sparks when they hit the backstop.   Another had a laser.  You could see that he was swinging the muzzle all over the range - walls, ceilings, other people's targets.  It was nuts.

The one bad thing was they only had foam earplugs for protection.  My ears were ringing when we were done.  All in all it was a lot of fun.

After that we stopped at Dan's Hamburgers for lunch.  Then it was the post office where all the stuff I've ordered lately was there.  A funny aside.  Ellen didn't pay the property taxes when they were due, which meant we had to pay a penalty.  We've gotten at least three letters from companies wanting to lend us money to pay property taxes.

We stopped at Tomlinson's to get some dog food.  Lucy wasn't with us because it was too hot.  I felt guilty, so I bought her a big Happy Birthday cookie.

We went home after Tomlinson's.  I took the stuff I'd ordered out to the garage.  I had to modify the wrench with the grinder to make it fit the jam nut.  Then I used the heat gun to heat the hell out of the nut.  I couldn't get it to move.  I worked on it for at least an hour and then gave up in disgust.  I did my exercises and went inside.

I think I had misinterpreted a youtube video about which way to turn the nut.  I may have been doing it in the wrong direction.  I'll try again tomorrow.  If that's what's wrong I'm going to be embarrassed.

It was almost 7 when I got back.  I surfed for awhile, then did some reading, and had dinner at 8.  The rest of the evening was surfing.
