Day 1073

I was up at 7 to go hunting.  Lucy and I were in the Bronco before 8.  As we turned off Snake River Road to go towards Thorny's a covey of quail flew across it.  A few hundred yards later there was a pheasant rooster on the side of the road.  Someone was parked at the barn, so I went to the other end.

Lucy and I walked towards the barn.  The first field we came to was a feed lot.  After running around for a little bit Lucy busted a covey of quail.  They were too far away for me to shoot.  Then she flushed a straggler in my direction.  I dropped it in the woods.  Lucy went down and got it.  After that she was all about hunting.

Later she flushed a hen out of the woods, but that was the only other bird we saw.

I drove over to the other sportsman's access.  Lucy got a scent in the thick cover by the river.  She worked her way in.  In a little while I heard a pheasant squawk and fly across the river.  I never saw it.  The only other bird we came across was a pheasant by the pump that flew while we were still 100 yds away.

By then Lucy was tired and really just walking with me.  So I called it quits.  When we got home Ellen and I went over Lucy.  She was fine except the two scars on her legs were raw.  Ellen bandages them, but Lucy tore the bandages off.

We went to lunch at the place that replaced Annies.  They had a single item menu for Sunday - chicken marsala.  It was good.  After that we went to Dan's to work on the Can Am.  Dan was fishing with his son.

I managed to get the wire pulled for the horn.  Then I installed the horn and it's switch.  I also tested it.  The whole operation was one of those times when everything fought me.  It took hours and I was tired and frustrated when I was done.

We took Dan and Patsy to dinner when Dan got back.  Apparently he fell in the river while they were fishing.

After dinner we went back to the trailer to surf.  Ellen has changed our data plan so that we'll get higher data rates.
