Day 227

I'm pissed off at doctors again.

I left early for the hospital.  I got there and took Ellen for a walk.  While we were walking the house doctor stopped to talk to us in the hall.  He said something about she seemed to be doing OK in spite of a temperature.  He stopped at a desk saying he'd stop at the room in a couple of minutes.  That's the last we saw of him.

A short time later the ostomy nurse came by.  Together we decided to change the bag.  The one we put on yesterday didn't have a good seal on one side.  She was really concerned about the way it looked.  She showed me a couple of new ways to help protect the stoma.  It looks like we'll be trying a third type of bag.  She said she'll call the doctor about her concerns.

We did another walk, sat and talked for awhile.  Hooch called and we talked about him, Mother, and his Silver Pigeon.  I left about one after it looked like nothing useful was going to happen for the rest of the day.  I stopped at the dog bakery, yuppie grocery, and Office Depot on the way home as well as the post office.  I ran the dog at the park by the post office.  She only did about 10 retrieves, but they were long ones.  This surprised me since it was a cloudy day.

Ellen called me about an hour and a half later.  The surgeon's surrogate had dropped by.  He blew off any concerns about the stoma "the nurse knows more than I do".  I told her to call the nurse.  She did.  Apparently the nurse had left the doctor a long phone message that he didn't respond to.

One cool thing.  As I was driving into the circle there was a doe with a brand new fawn.  The thing was the size of a small dog.  It looked cool.

I spent the rest of the day surfing and reading.  I'm mad.  Ellen thinks they're letting her go tomorrow.  I'm not leaving there until I've talked to the surrogate.
