Day 140

We bought the house today. The mortgage broker didn't come through with the loan (surprise, surprise) so we paid cash. We did the walkthrough in the morning. Everything looked OK, except the paint in the great room/kitchen area was in much worse shape than we thought. We'll have to repaint it before we move in.

Looking back over the blog the first entry that mentions looking for a house was Day 20. That means we spent 4 months looking for a house. Actually it was closer to three since we spent almost a month waiting for an answer to our offer on the Merrywood Lane house. We spend at least a month working on the new house. So much for having fun this winter.

We also seem to have inherited a little bit of junk that the sellers left behind. This includes two old computers and a monitor. That's OK. They also left us a table, a refrigerator, and a washer and dryer.

We called the title company before we left the property. Yesterday they told us the closing will be on Tuesday. Today they said it would be at 1:00 today. So we went to the bank, got a check, and headed to the title company office. Everything went fine there. We signed a lot fewer papers than we did for the loan application.

Afterwards we took Rosie to a late lunch in San Marcos. We learned that most eating establishments in downtown San Marcos aren't open until after 4:00. We did find a place that had some wonderful lasagna. Then it was home and saying goodbye to a lady who both helped us and tolerated us in large measures.

In the evening I reviewed all the Craigslist ads that I've been bookmarking. Many of them had expired. I called on a couple of them, but nothing major. I'll need to get cracking on the roof and selling the pool right away.

Tomorrow is the monthly "Wimberley Market day". I suspect that it will be a lot like the Gruene market. We're going to go and then go over to Home Depot or Lowe's and get paint and supplies.
