Day 316

When the alarm went off this morning I reached up, turned it off, and went back to sleep.  I woke up about half an hour later and did a little Minions and surfing.  Then I got up, did pet stuff, and had breakfast.  I went out to get the paper and decided that the weather was nice enough (cloudy, 80 degrees and 90% humidity) to dig in the ditch.

I changed clothes and went out.  It had started to rain lightly.  That didn't affect me much since I was digging out the section of the ditch under the tree.  Of course that meant I had to dig bent over.  My goal was to get past the tree (about 10-12 feet).  I did that, but I was totally exhausted by the time I did.  I could barely walk back to the house and had to rest a little before taking a shower.  The part I dug out stopped just at the major breach in the berm (more on that later).

After a shower, some surfing, and lunch I got a bad case of cabin fever.  I decided to go to the Red's in Pflugerville.  So I went out and cleaned the Legion.  I also "moved into" the range bag I got yesterday.  It is REALLY nice.  I packed the Legion and Ellen's Sapphire and we left about 1.

Of course traffic sucked.  We tried to avoid it by taking 290 to Congress, driving to Oltorff, and getting on I35 there.  No Joy.  Traffic was stop and go all the way to where the divided section merges.

We lucked out when we got there.  There was a lane open, so we immediately shot.  Ellen is pretty good with her gun.  I like the way it shoots also.  The Legend is fantastic.  I managed to put three shots into about an inch at 7 yards with it.  That's really good shooting for me.

After we finished we did some window shopping.  The Sig rep from yesterday was there today.  I happened to stop near him while he was demonstrating Sig's take on an AR.  It looks similar, but it's really different.  Ellen really liked it.  We may end up with one.  We probably would have, except they didn't have one in stock.

At one point the rep left me holding his SBR MPX.  He didn't come back for quite awhile, so I just stood at the counter with a NFA weapon.  There was no way I was going to put it down.

I started to rain as we left.  We took Parmer over to Loop 1 to avoid the traffic.  By the time we got to Loop 1 it was raining heavily.  Of course Texans can't drive in the rain.  It took us quite awhile to get down to Slaughter.  We never got up to speed, and there was a lot of stop and go or under 20 mph.

It was still raining, but the hard rain had passed when we got home.  The ditch was doing it's job, but of course it ended at the breach.  That meant all of the water went right down the lower driveway, just like before.  I think that ditch may be a little deeper now.  I'm glad I decided not to repair it until the ditch is finished.

We had a little over 2 inches of rain in the 4 hours we were gone.  The sewer alarm went off shortly after we got home.  The red light is on right now, and it's supposed to rain more tomorrow.  Oh well.
